Sooo, anyone else get their hands on the Left 4 Dead 2 demo? I thought it was pretty good. A lot of people complain about how sort the first game is and that it isn't worth paying full price for the second game that is only slightly longer a mere year after the release of the original. Sure, you can play your way through the entire L4D campaign in one day even if you absolutely suck at it, but the game was designed with replay value in mind. There is not another game I own for 360 that has half as much replay value as Left 4 Dead. All those games I own with long single player campaigns find a place on my shelf collecting dust when I am finished with them, but L4D is a game I find myself constantly coming back to. Since you are playing with three other real people, the experience is never the same.

I'd be more than content to spend a couple of more years playing the first Left 4 Dead, but with all the extras added to the sequel and the anticpation of countless more hours spend blowing limbs off zombies with a shot gun with three strangers, makes me feel this is more than worth the price tag. I think I'll get it when it comes out, maybe I'll wait a week or two and get it used for $15 dollars or se less than retail.

Irregardless :) of everything else, surely anyone who plays this demo can appreciate the fun and excitement of hacking up zombies with a machette.

Wow, you weren't kidding! Irregardless of the fact that I thought you were only joking, you were actually serious and now I really am on your ignore list.

Irregardless of my use of the "word" "irregardless" in the offending post as well as this post, I too cringe when I hear it used.

Muwahahahahahah!

I just got an e-mail saying CP3X has commented in this thread!  But I can't see it because I ignored him!

Somebody tell me... did he come back beggining on his knees for forgiveness?  Was it easy to tell the depths of shame and remorse that he felt?  Maybe I was a little too hard on the little fella...  Maybe I should, you know, be the bigger person here and offer my forgiveness...  Yeah, I think I can safely put this behind me and unignore the guy.  He's good people.  And a little thing like intentionally using poor grammar is not really something to be upset about.  Let alone 'ignore' a friend.

Pals?

NINTENDO IS GOING TO PORT NEW SUPER MARIO BROS. OVER TO THE WII.

It's not actually a port. It's a full on sequel... that has the exact same name.

Yeah, it didn't make any sense to me either.

I thought the game had a weird "Web 2.0" kind of name when I saw it:

"New! Super Mario Bros.Wii"  The "." between Bros and Wii was throwing me off until I realized that it was simply used to abbreviate "Brothers."

In other news, I have been playing Spider-Man: Web of Shadows.  I recommend it.  Here are my expanded thoughts:

If you like Superhero games or Free Roaming Large City type games, then you will like or love Web of Shadows.  The combat system makes it much easier than previous games in the series to actually hit the bad guys with those awesome Spidey moves.  The voice of Spider-Man is quite terrible at the start of the game, but seems to get better as it goes along.  There are 2000 "hidden" collectibles in the game to collect.  I have about half of them.  Because there are so many, you can pretty much always see one if you look for them.  I'm not sure how hard or frustrating it gets as you start to run out of them though.

In summary- It's a compelling play.  Regardless of all other factors that weigh into the final score... I find myself turning it on whenever I get the chance.  I had 10 minutes to wait for my wife and I actually booted it up, beat 3 or 4 baddies and collected 5 or so of those darn collectables and felt like it was a good usage of my time.

The end.

I got a PS3 on Black Friday for Blu Ray playing.  I downloaded and played a couple of demos... and I found that I really hate the controller.  I've never owned a Playstation and I've never really played a game on one.  I found that I much prefer the "trigger and bumber" combo on the 360 compared to the "2 shouler buttons" or "half triggers" on the PS3.  It also put me off that the top shoulder buttons are considered to be the primary ones.  I saw that you could buy "triggers" to snap onto the bottom of the lower shoulder buttons, but that doesn't seem of too much use since those aren't generally the shooting buttons.  I also found it odd that with the left side D-Pad/Thumbstick placement that the D-Pad is primary except for when you need analogue control (in a game, for example).  But when you go back to the menu, the D-Pad is primary again.  I know the D-Pad on the 360 controller sucks, but it's also not used a whole lot.  Finally, it's a lot easier to say to my wife "Hit Y!" than "Hit Triangle!" Seriously, if ABXY is good enough for Nintendo and MS (and keyboards the world over) why do we have to have trisyllabic words for the buttons on the PS controllers?

And I really hate that they all have X buttons but they're not in the same place.  Especially on the MS vs Sony deal, since the buttons have the same layout, but X is in different spots.

All in all, I find it sad since it means I probably won't go back and forth and play games on both much.  There is that "Shadow 6" controller, but it seems that it only solves half of my problems.  :(

Other than that, the system is great.  It's really small compared to the Toshiba HD-A2 it's replacing.  Man that was a big HD-DVD player.  And it took a good 45 seconds to boot up.

I personally find that the PlayStation controller is the smartest one yet. Maybe a tad small, but then, I have fairly big hands. I do totally agree that the L2 and R2 shoulder buttons on the PS3 controller are bad, though. They should have left them alone! :(

I also found the ol' N64 controller surprisingly intuitive! When I first saw it, I thought 'what is that thing?', but I got used to it very quickly.

Have you logged any time on the 360 controller?  I really like the heft, the shape of it, and the button placement.  I was on travel (eating my tax payer paid Steak Dinner from the politics thread) and I took the Wii and left the 360 with the wife and kids.  Playing Metroid for a couple hours really made me think that boxy wii-mote looks really smart, but the corners were making my hands hurt.  It could be partially that I'm most used to the 360 controller, but I think there's at least some objectivity left there: the 360 controller is the best I've ever used.

I'm a PlayStation 3 owner, always been a PlayStation guy ever since the original, and I have to say - the 360 controller is the absolute best controller I've ever used, hands down.  The only flaw in its design is the horrible d-pad; if they replaced that with the PlayStation-style d-pad it would be perfect.

I only became a 360 owner one year ago (can't believe it has been that long actually!) without ever having really played one before or having ever played the original Xbox, and was extremely impressed with the controller. I have always felt the PS2 controller was a very good controller, and I have also often considered the 64 controller to be one of the greatest inventions since the wheel. That said, I think the 360 controller makes both of then feel like absolute crap.

Errr... but yeah... then there is that d-pad... oh MS, you come so close to greatness sometimes, but you always seem hell bent on screwing it up...

That said, I have never cared much for Sony's d-pad either. I still think Nintendo's pre-Wii/DS d-pads were the ideal design.
