Alright, enough of this mudflapz nonsense.

I drove past a Blockbuster yesterday, and decided to pop in and see what deals they had on used games (gotten some pretty good deals there in the past). Luck would have it, they had their used games buy one get one free, and I ended up nabbing four 360 games for $30 bucks, nearly doubling my collection.

I got,

Turok (no matter how many of these games I play, I never tire of killing dinosaurs. Now with throat slitting action!)

Bully: Scholarship Edition (played a ways into it on PS2, but never finished it.)

Mirror's Edge (most people seem to think the idea of the game is interesting, but the execution is poorly done, figured I'd give it a try)

Watchmen: The End is Nigh parts 1 and 2 (played the demo, fun little beat 'em up, nothing special, but not near as awful as everyone makes it out to be)

Also found a brand new copy of Bubba Ho-Tep in their bargan bin for $3.99 (worth that much just for the Bruce Campbell commentary).

Man, I really thought my post on IGN's top twenty five would have generated a bit more discussion... but then we got lost on some retarded internet gag.

Back on topic, I read some reviews and watched some videos for Batman: Arkham Asylum, and now I am really, really having to hold myself back from running out and grabbing a copy of it. I am surprised nobody here has posted about it yet. Reading about it got me in such a mood for Batman, that I watched Return of the Joker last night (which was an odd mixture of incredibly awesome, utterly lame, and slightly upsetting).

Now back off topic, I didn't know what a Mudkips was, so I looked it up (I honestly don't understand how these dumb internet jokes get so popular, some people have WAY too much time on their hands). Anyway, I go to visit my folks yesterday, and there is a freakin' stuffed Mudkip on the kitchen table. Really weird, right. Turns out it belongs to my three year old niece and she left it there. But seriously, out of all the stuffed animals in the world, what are the chances she'd own and leave a stuffed Mudkips at my parents house right before one of the rare occasions I go to visit them which just happed to be the very day after I learned what a Mudkips was. Crazy stuff.

Cool. Which version?

I still have an uncut version on VHS that I got almost a year before the official uncut version was released. Got it from a guy at another forum. I never did find out how he got it. At the time, I don't think he wanted to say, but I'm sure he would now. I should see if I can track him down and find out. :)

I plan to watch them soon, but I just moved and haven't gotten internet yet, so my time is limited to how long I'm willing and comfortable to spend at Wendy's on a given day.  After I watch them, though, you can bet I will chew your ear off with discussion.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

I watched the uncut version, don't see much reason in wasting time on watching the edited. Though I am curious as to what all they cut out of the cut version. I am guessing they just clipped a few things related to Tim's kidnapping? I was actually expecting something a lot worse during that scene, though it is still a bit upsetting seeing a character you have spent hours watching on screen caught in that situation.

There are more changes than I remembered! Go down to the 'Re-editing' section here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman_Beyond:_Return_of_the_Joker (I know the Jim Harvey guy they mention; he's a friend from toonzone.net and even lived in the same town as me for a while, I found out after I had moved)

c3px, I have batman AA for ps3 and I have to say its fuckin awesome.  I really cant complain at all, the controls are good, the fighting is fun, the stealth is fun, the acting is great.  the demo didnt do it any justice.   there are a lot of secrets and reasons to look around so it doesnt play too fast either.  you may need to run out and get it.

Author

Yeah, I definitly need to get it, I have hardly heard any negative things about either version, and the gripes I have heard don't amount to much. My only problem is I feel like I have spend a good deal of money over the past few months on games I have yet to finish, and don't quite feel justified in running out and dropping $50 on another one. The longer I wait, the cheaper it will get anyway. But it looks so downright amazing, it is really hard to hold back.

Batman arkham asylum is supposed to be Mark Hamill's last hurrah as the Joker.  He won't do the voice any more at least that is he said he was retiring the voice.

Batman is voiced by the original actor from the animated series, the could not afford Bale and who cares really his voice was awful in the dark knight.  Conroys voice might be a bit cheesy at times, but at least its not Adam West. Yeah sure some fanboys would have loved Micheal Keaton as the voice, but whatever.

I was at Target picking up some groceries today, and decided to zip by the video game clearance section to see if there were any good deals to be found; sure enough! Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe for only $14.98.

Just thought I'd give you all the heads up.

I like the Marvel VS Capcom franchise better, but to each their own as they say, lol.

Actually the First Marvel VS Street Fighter arcade was my favorite, i kicked ass as RYU and Wolverine.

Reading a little back in this thread nintendo seal of quality, lol.

There were plenty of bad games on the nes as the good ones, back to the future was awful, so was ghostbusters.  A lot of games based on movies really did suck.

Batman Return of the Joker the videogame not related to the movie the nes game was one of the most incredibly annoying gaming experiences ever, that and the batman games based on the movies by Burton.  Incredibly hard.  The Joker game falling into pits all the time, platformer like megaman but not quite the same level of fun and playability.

There were other batman games i have played that were lame, i remember playing this one where i think it was based on batman forever and it was the worst batman game i have ever played.

I used to own the batman the movie 1989 gameboy game.  The only thing i can remember is the part where you punch jack into the acid and he becomes the joker.

I bet Mark would still be willing to do more Joker if the opportunity were to come along. But thinks that fall into the continuity of the Batman animated series (DC Animated Universe) are nearly non-existent anymore (guess there is still some JLA stuff being made, right?), and the Joker has been over used quite a lot in the past several years, so it is probably not to likely the opportunity will come along.

To me Mark Hamill's Joker is by far the definitive Joker. People can get orgasmic all they want over Heath Ledger's Joker, but my feelings are that the greatness of his performance is greatly blown out of proportion. Don't get me wrong, he did a great job with the part and brought us a very dark and adult oriented version of Joker to go along with our new dark and adult oriented version Batman, but to me, Mark Hamill's Joker will always be THE Joker.

I am glade that Arkham Asylum decided to go with Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, and other TAS voice actors for the game. I have always thought Kevin Conroy was perfect as the voice of Batman. Bale's raspy Batman voice comes off as just downright akward to me. And as for Micheal Keaton, the man just simply wasn't Batman. He did a great job of portraying a playboy running around at night in a costume beating up bad guys, but I don't think that is really who the character of Bruce Wayne/Batman is. To me Batman has always been a man who takes off his face and prentends to be a playboy during the day. As for Nicholson's Joker... er... um... no comment.

"Conroy's voice might be a bit cheesy at times..."

Just out of curiosity, at what times does his voice come off as cheesy to you, sky? I will admit there were plenty of cheesy things about Batman TAS throughout its run, but Kevin Conroy's portrayal of the character would have been one of the last things I'd have expected to see given that label. Perhaps it has just been a really long time since I have really sat down and watched through some of the episodes.

I'd happen to agree regarding Marvel vs. Capcom, the whole idea behind that game is brilliant. Besides being a much bigger fan of Marvel than of DC, I have always been a Street Fighter guy as opposed to a Mortal Kombat guy. Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is an obvious ripoff of Marvel vs. Capcom, though it is not at all original I still like the concept. And hey, fifteen bucks is fifteen bucks, that is still less than half the price of a used copy of MK vs DC from gamestop.

Not in the Cartoon he just seemed to Ham it up at the comic convention if you know what i mean, his voice is comic book like i don't know if that is a complaint or a compliment.

I don't know if he hams it up in the aa game since i don't have it yet, but i want to get it.

I have seen some of the cutscenes ripped onto youtube.  Probably taken down now.

The noir like batman tas series was awesome.

I actually liked masked of the phantasm but did not get the chance to see it in theaters.  The DVD leaves a lot to be desired.  Basically bare bones and the transfer is not the best either, i'm not even sure it is anamorphic.

It's anamorphic, but it is pretty bare bones.  Theatrical trailer, that's about it.

BUT, it also offers full frame!  An extra that's nice - like having the DBZ movies in fullscreen over here, whereas in Japan they have them in widescreen.  Though our singles leave a lot to be desired...

dang, they are still charging $60 in the philly target....I would have definitely picked it up for $15

Huh, I guess different Targets do their clearance differently. My local Target has a shamefully small space dedicated to 360 games, they offer about twice the selection size for PS3, Wii, and even DS. Also, I just realized the last time I was there that they keep the PS2s, PS3s, PSPs, DSs, and Wiis, all locked away behind a glass cabinet, but their 360s just sit on the shelf in the wide open, seems like somebody there is a PS3 fanboy.

I guess the limited amount of shelf space they have dedicated to 360 games is the reason I keep scoring such great deals, The Force Unleashed for $8, Left 4 Dead for $15, and now MK vs. DC for $15.

And now for something completely different... sort of...

I have been playing my way through Mirror's Edge lately, anybody else ever play that game? All the reviews for it are pretty mediocre, but I am really enjoying it. Not sure what people didn't like about it, maybe it just clicked with me, but I think it is absolutely brilliant. I think it deserves a lot of credit for originality, something sorely lacking games these days. Sure, the whole dystopian storyline is something we have all heard a millions times before, but it sets the mood for the game pretty nicely I think. I am not even sure how you'd categorize the game. A FPR, first-person-runner? I really like that while you have the option to disarm law enforcement officers and take their firearms, it is your choice if you want to use them or not, the whole game can be played without firing a shot, or technically every time you run up against a bunch of cops, you could take one of their guns and take each and every one of them down.

Anyway, I'd definitely recommend this game, it certainly will not be the same kind of full experience as games like Fallout 3 or GTA4, but it'll make for an exciting weekend or everyday-after-work-for-a-week-or-so experience.

Indeed - Mirror's Edge is tons of fun.  Don't ever try to play it using the PS3's 'Sixaxis' controls, though.  Jesus fucking Christ what a nightmare.

Author
Time

I also enjoyed mirrors edge. I got stuck at a fight later in the game and moved to a different game (I think fallout 3) so I havent beaten it yet.  I plan to just go back and start over when im done Batman AA.  It could be frustrating at times but when you hit that stride its exhilarating....

Author
Time

Yeah, when you hit that stride and are able to just keep moving, it is really great. Unfortunately I keep hitting snags myself, and when you end up playing the same section over and over and over and over because you keep dying and can't figure out what to do, the fun kind of goes away.

Mask of the Phantasm blew my mind in theaters. (Still does.) Hopefully there will be a better DVD release along with a widescreen version of Subzero. It seems that b/c Phantasm is a "kids" movie no one will ever give it the respect it deserves. However, it still towers above the new films.

AA's best feature: the voices: "What are you really afraid of Bats? Not saving precious Gotham? Not saving Gordon in time? Me in a thong?"

Is DC vs Mortal Kombat worth $15? Haven't played any MK since MKIII and Trilogy.

That would have been really funny if it was not saving Rachel Dawes in time instead of Harvey Dent, Not saving precious Gotham was his fear in batman begins when he fought Ras in the form of Liam Neeson, lol.

I wonder though is that line any chance by the joker in AA, and if it is, is it a jokey reference to the dark knight?

Would have been even funnier to make fun of Bale's batman voice form DK and have batman grunting and sounding indistinct, lol.
