ALL I want at the moment is Resident Evil 5!

sky, it sounds like you're not into multiplayer much.  In which case, you'll probably want to avoid COD4.  Even thought it does have achievements and such for replayability, you seem like someone who only likes a game if it's 1) extremely difficult and 2) takes a month or two to complete.  Most people don't like games that take that long since they've moved on to the next great game in that time.

For the average gamer that doesn't spend 40 hours a week playing, COD4 is excellent.  It's a bit short, but the multiplayer aspect more than makes up for it.

As for me, I just picked up Left 4 Dead (on sale on Steam, 25% off).  I can't wait to play that.  I'll probably also pick up Bioshock since it's only $5 on Steam (regularly $20).  I'm thinking of getting COD WaW, but it's only $5 off, so I'll probably hold off on that.

Me too! I cannot wait for that game. I have been playing those two demo levels over and over and over again. It is awesome. Can't wait to spent that time playing the actual game. Full game is still nearly three months away! :(

And Lj, $5 for Bioshock!!! Wow, you really ought to get it. That game is well worth five bucks, especially if you have never played it before.

I was just at Gamestop and they STILL cannot tell me what is included in the collector's edition.

pm me if you cannot say in the open where the demo levels are please, please, please.

Are you a PS3 user or a 360 user dark_jedi? As far as I know only the 360 has the demo. The demo was released exclusively on the Xbox 360 in Japan though Xbox Live. Crafty RE fans in the US began signing up for Japanese Live accounts in order to download and play the thing, but MS somehow blocked that so it doesn't work anymore.

Now it is even easier though. You can download the demo from several places on the web (the kinds of places you might dl fan edits from), burn it on a DVD or CD-r and play it. It is only four hundred and some mb. I downloaded it, burnt it on a CD-r, and it plays just fine, it is all in English too. Once the disc is in the drive, instead of loading it from the disc as you would a retail Xbox game, go to "Game Library" and you find it magically listed among your demos.

Hope you have an Xbox dark_jedi, because this sure helps make the wait a bit easier. This demo is very much worth the small effort it takes to get to play it.

The demo was released in Japan on December 5th. Not sure if/when they intend to release it in other parts of the world or for PS3. It plays great though, it even has co-op mode, but only through split screens. The real game will have co-op story mode via internet, which will be kind of cool.

Thanks for the info,I really appreciate it.

Well, I didn't get any games for Christmas, but since I got plenty of cash I decided to pick up the Wii edition of Resident Evil 4, which is by far the best incarnation. The kick-ass control scheme, coupled with the $20 price tag, basically means that you have no reason to not pick it up.

how about if you have it already on the gamecube with a real game controller, or the ps2 and do not want a gimmicky wii mote annoyance.

Yeah the gun mini game is easier on the wii other than that and targeting enemies the game is exactly the same.

Easier if the sensor on the wii unit works properly ours never does or only does some of the time.  We have a small room and can not sit way back from the tv.

And if you have shaky hands forget the wii entirely, because games are just a nightmare.

Does the PS3 allow you to use it as a regular control without batteries with an extension like the xbox 360 does?  Nintendo elected to not allow gamers a choice in using a normal controller to play the games on the new wii console.

Buying batteries all the time or charging battery packs is a pain in the ass and is expensive.

I never cared for the skaky controller except on games that really used it as a feature and not a gimmick.  And so far what i have seen of the PS3 six axis is a gimmick just like the wiimote.

Maybe at some point a game will use its full features.  Maybe  God of War 3 will be the first i don't know.

Did metal gear 4 get the dualshock after all programmed in?

Anyways RE4 is such an old game that there won't be an HD version where the Fifth installment was designed for that.

I remember back hearing that a boycott of 5 might happen in the states because as i read the zombies are black people or something like that.  And with the voodo and black magic they were saying it was racist.

No, they fixed the all black zombie thing (they are not really zombies actually), now it is kind of funny as hoards of black guys jump out of nowhere and back you into a corner and you spot a random white guy or two mixed in there just for good measure.

I remember back when you'd here people complain about the absence of black people, now if there are too many you are in trouble. I mean, you are in some remote African village, that is the only reason everybody was black at one point. Nothing at all to do with racism.

Yeah but the last real nintendo console in terms of a library of games worth owning first and third party was the snes.  Ever since then they have had a weak library of games if you take Mario, Zelda and Metroid out of the equation.  The wii only has about 3 games worth owning imho and they are easily beaten and then the system is as good as a paperweight, The console is a gimmick even miyamato knows it is and still does not care.

They only wanted to do something different than their competition, but there is nothing revoltionary about the wii, not graphics not gameplay zero, nothing zilch.  The only thing original is that wiimote you swing around like an imbecile.  Wii Sports gets boring rather quickly, Mario, Zelda and Metroid are easily beaten.  And the life of the gamecube console was a joke it had like no games i played either except for windwaker.

When you look at the library of games Microsoft Xbox 360 has and the devloping Library of PS3 titles nintendo is what a system for non hardcore old school gamers who were nintendos bread and butter back in the nes and snes era.  They want the soccer moms, non gamers and casual types with the wii.  All the games are non adult and kiddie in nature, mostly and lack any story movie cutscenes pre rendered HD cgi or voice acting.  The only thing they got right was the gameplay.  But damn i've played the same style of mario. zelda and metroid since i was a kid.  Would it kill nintendo to do something really revolutionary or original?

I no a lot of people who own a wii and only play the backcatalog of titles on the virtual console.  I already own those games and systems so to me instead of new games having like half their library as a backcatalog of previous systems= a Giant and major fail.

Nintendo sold out forget the gamers and went for the higest possible sales they could get by marketing to the people outside gaming.

We loaned our wii to my Nephew and even he finds the system kiddie and boring after playing mario galaxy and zelda twilight princess to death.  He goes over his friends house to play cool killing games Like Halo 3 which he should not be playing, but still games nintendo never could make being stuck in the same mindset of the eighties and only updating the graphics and consoles every few years.  While Sony and later microsoft remain on the cutting edge of gaming into the future, and the future is HD.  Even though i don't yet own an HDTV i realize this.  Nintendo put out a 20th century piece of hardware in the 2lst century and to me that is a major failure despite their sales figures.

The only piece of the console that was forward thinking was the wiimote, the console is almost the same as the gamecube.  I would like to play Twilight Princess some day in HD but nintendo decided to have one foot in the present and the other stuck in the past.  The system but not being available in an HD version is already halfway obsolete just like HD-DVD.

Blu Ray will take off in the next few years, within  ten if it is not eclipsed by an even newer format it will take over the dvd market unless it fails like Laserdisc and is only a niche market.

If that is the case then sony are a bunch of fools and nintendo are somehow genious for putting out substandard cheap hardware.

The DS has a better catalog of games at least to me being an avid Rpg fan and gamer another reason why the wii is such a failure.  Perhaps final fantasy crystal bearers will fix that if it does ever get finished, lol.  Or if they put out a real dragonquest game on the wii.

The last good nintendo console was the snes. I said sayanara to nintendo fanboyism when Square dropped ninetndo like a hot potato and went with the forward thinking sony playstation console.  Final Fantasy VII is a game nintendo wishes they could have had as a third party title, Well they got quest 64,lol.

Seriously, the Wii version of RE4 is the absolute best that game has to offer. Don't want to use the "gimmicky" Wiimote? Then just don't use the damn thing! You can use the classic controller to play it as well. The original GameCube version had superior graphics to the downgraded PS2 port, to make up for a delayed release and lesser graphics they added the bonus stuff. The Wii version has GameCube graphics, PS2 features, and gimmicky or not, a freaken sweet control system with the Wiimote and Nunchuck.

I have a theory about complainers. They start off with ligit complaints, then they become so well adjusted to complaining, suddenly everything deserves to have the crap picked out of it. Sooner or later you just have to say to yourself this is the way it is and it is what it is. If it is a gimmick to you, just leave it and don't mess with it, kick the dust off your feet and have nothing to do with it, plenty of others get a thrill out of having a unique new way to play their games.

To address Sky's comment on wanting to play Twilight Princess in HD. Twilight Princess is a GameCube game with a Wii port, even if the Wii had been an HD system, not likely LOZ:TP would have been in HD. I am sure I'd love to play A Link to the Past or Chrono Trigger in HD, but it sure ain't gonna happen.

Mind if I borrow this post for the politics topic? It's just as relevant there.

Yeah, it especially fits those guys that have been unable to shut the hell up about Bush for the last several years. Every word out their mouths is Bush this and Bush that. Hopefully having the most perfectest liberal since JFK in office will help them to break the cycle of complaining, but quite frankly, I think theirs is a lost cause.

Now I know this is your forum and all, but I do believe it is best if we can keep politics confined to politic related threads.

Because the PS3 and X-Box 360 are so innovative doing the same thing last generation did, only bigger.

The DS has a better catalog of games at least to me being an avid Rpg fan and gamer another reason why the wii is such a failure.  Perhaps final fantasy crystal bearers will fix that if it does ever get finished, lol.  Or if they put out a real dragonquest game on the wii.

They are making a Dragon Quest game for Wii.

The whole point of the Wii was to attract new customers into gaming. Nintendo can't compete for the 'core' gamer. The Gamecube proved that. It had some of the finest damn games of the generation, and still came in third place. It's a sad fact that the market goes for the violence and the gore, and Nintendo doesn't do that. They needed a pardigm shift. That was Nintendo's stated business model from well before the system was released. They really had no choice. Nintendo is a company that makes things for one industry: video games. They don't have money to burn like Sony and Microsoft. They don't have other divisions to keep them afloat if the games division isn't doing so hot.

Nintendo knows full well that HD will be standard sooner or later. They never intended an 'either/or' choice for the Wii. The Wii does something different; the other two do something proven. They've never been shooting for the same market. Nintendo isn't putting a gun to anyone's head and forcing them to buy the Wii, and there's absolutely no reason aside from finances that you have to choose the 'hardcore' X-Box/PS3 or the casual Wii. Theres no reason that World of Goo (which could not be done on the other two consoles) and Metal Gear Solid 4 (which also could not be done on the other two consoles) should be somehow mutually exclusive.

I understand why you'd be frustrated with Nintendo, and even have legtimate reasons to dislike the Wii, but acting like it's somehow a failure on Nintendo's part is fanboy entitlement at its worst.

I am not a person that has a hard time communicating my thoughts, the problem is you are a person that wants to pick fights all the time.

I am tired of explaining every sentence of every post I write that you don't understand.

So, I'm a person that wants to pick fights all the time?

Well, if I now follow your logic, when I spoke of the competition between N64 and the PSX, I now take it that you believe I was actually attempting to pick a fight with you (as apposed to actually wanting to discuss issues that interested me). How curious.

This is a rather strange place for our discussion to go, so I'll just say this: to the degree you perceive any "fight" between you and me in this present discussion, I think you should lay the blame squarely on yourself and not me. When I look at who's actually doing what here, you're the one talking about "outrage" and "fights" (not me).

However, I don't think saying anything more than that is necessary and if you want to discuss this "fight" nonsense (and who's supposedly starting it) then we can do that over the forum's private messaging (or at least start a different thread). For my part I want to discuss the actual "video gaming" issues at hand. If you don't want to discuss the issues I want to discuss (and you feel I'm only"fighting" with you, or not understanding you, or whatever) then you simply don't need to respond.

C3PX said:

I said the N64 kicked the PSX's ass. You said, the N64 didn't kick the PSX's ass and that the PSX clearly won the war. I agree that it lost the war, when I said it kicked the PSX's ass, I meant because it is a better console and hardware/quality game wise it kicked the PSX's ass. That is why I wrote the offending line.

I primarily follow the logic of what people say based on the context of a discussion. If people are saying things that I believe are logically incorrect, according to what would generally be understood by most people from those words, and I have a personal reason to discuss that statement, then I will pick out those points and discuss them.

We were talking about sales and how that relates to the quality of a console. You brought up graphics and said that the "N64 still kicked the PS pathetic little ass." I then brought up the fact that the N64 was weak in comparison to the PSX in some key ways as a way to prove that the N64 did not kick the Playstation's "pathetic little ass."

You then focused on my line about how the PSX sold more units (which wasn't a reason for the PSX's greatness but just a supportive sidenote on my part) as something you already knew (which I was already guessing you knew but I wanted to simply bring up the data point for the sake of our conversation). You then brought up the weakest of my reasons for why the PSX was not a "pathetic" peice of hardware that got its ass kicked ("long and involved") and proceeded to go off on a long rant about why I was potentially wrong with my specific point there. Then, you finished up by saying that higher sales does not mean higher quality.

I already understood your point about how you thought the N64 kicked the ass of the PSX in terms of graphics (as apposed to sales). I was actually arguing against that specific point of yours and brought up clear reasons to disagree with your statement. You then proceeded to respond only to my weakest reason for why the PSX was not crap and ignored the rest of my reasons. You also responded to my statement that the PSX had more sales as if you wanted to argue against someone who thought that point would be a direct reason why the PSX was an objectively better system. All the while my other points in defense of the PSX's hardware strength were ignored by you despite their logical relevence to the issues you were actually responding to.

All in all, as far as I can tell, I had no misunderstanding in this discussion and needed no special explanations from you. After that I did go on to be confused as to why you argued some issues and not others, but that was not a problem with what you said or didn't say, but, in actuality, a problem with me understanding why you chose to say what you said (and why you chose to leave other things unsaid). As such, I went on to ask you a question that you went on to label "outrageous" and the rest of our discussion has branched from there.

C3PX said:

I said "outrageous assumtions" because you do that all the time. Like assuming Lj thought you accussed him of being a terrorist when there was absolutely no reason to assume he thought any such thing. Since there was no indication that I hadn't read your whole post, it is a funny thing to be worried about. Don't certain points in people's posts stick out to you at times? I see people only respond to one point made in someone elses post all the time, I don't see that as a reason to suppose they didn't read the rest of the post, just that that one sentence is what mattered to them.

You're bringing up issues from another thread now? If you really want me to reply to what you were saying in that thread (which I was getting bored of) then I will, but when (and if) I do it will be in that thread, not in this one.

well my son brought over his 360 and I got to play the RE5 Demo,DAMN is it COOL!

But it really looks ALOT like RE4,I really wish they would go back to the earlier games and make them freaky spooky again,RE5 looks FANTASTIC,but it does NOT look like it will be freaky spooky like the old ones, and that is probably going to be my only gripe about RE5.

maybe the old scarier RE games are now done for these newer more actiony types which is to bad,it was the older scarier versions that made RE what it is today.

Author
Time

I honestly never like the RE series too much. The only one that ever appealed to me was RE2 for some reason. I think it is a fun game, but I have never actually beaten it, I always grow tired of quickly. Which is odd because I grew up loving my long winded adventure games. Though I must admit, RE2 had some shit-your-pants-freaky moments.

RE4 on the other hand is one of the most enjoyable games I have ever played, it had a few scary moment, but you are right, nothing like RE 1 or 2. Heh, scariest moment in RE4 for me was when something jumped out of nowhere at me in the game, and at the EXACT same moment a misquito unexpectedly flew up my nose. This was sometime around 1 am, and I was playing in complete darkness. I had to pause the game and take a few minutes to catch my breath it scared me so badly.

Glad you got to play the demo of RE5. It is a lot like RE4, which I think is a good thing. I am afraid if you are a big fan of the old adventure game style Resident Evils, your days are up. I hate when franchise like that completely adandon their roots, I sympathize with you. Have you played Resident Evil 0 or the remake of Resident Evil 1 on the GameCube? If you really liked the older RE games, it is worth going down to gamestop and picking up a used $29.99 GameCube just to play those two games. RE0 is a whole new game taking place before the first one, and the remake has plenty of changes from the original making it worth the time of people who have beaten the old one countless times.

Hell Yes I played ALL RE games and I totally loved 0 and the remake, have beaten them all including 4,and I agree, the older scary style RE's are done, but that is OK,I will always have my old versions to fall back on LOL

I plan on getting a 360 very soon,I already prepaid for the PS3 RE5 Collector's Edition(limited) and was wondering if I should put down a deposit for the 360 version as well.

I really like the RE games and the Silent Hill games, and all the Castlevania games,oh and I forgot, the Metal Gear Solid games rock to! especially the new one on PS3.

Hell I even got the new action replay that has the Wii support so I can cheat a little on my old games.

Have you played Umbrella Chronicles for the Wii? That is the one Wii game a really want to play. I have never tried it, but I like old arcade shooters, and revisiting the chapters of previous RE games in that style sounds really cool to me.

Yes I have and played Umbrella Chronicles(but have not beaten it yet LOL)when I got the game I got the Wii-Zapper to use with it,but after playing a short while I realised something real fast, the Wii-Zapper SUX! because I could not get used to having the nunchuck and Wiimote so close, the gun is to small for an adult,I think it was designed for very small kids, but this Christmas my wife and I got my little boy the Nerf N-Strike game and when we got it all setup and started playing it I then realised something again, the Nerf Pistol is PERFECT,so I went to Walmart and bought me one LOL,so to get to the point,I am going to start over playing, but this time with the comfort of the Nerf Pistol in 1 hand, and I can hold the nunchuck in the other,ALOT smoother.

even on Link's Crossbow Training(which is what came with the Wii-Zapper)is alot better playing with the Nerf Pistol.

Author
Time

I have never used one, but the Wii zapper does look prety crappy, not to mention very un-gun like. There is an off brand Wii pistol that looks pretty nice (I think the brand name is "Nyko" or something similar). I have read customer reviews for it on amazon, and they are all really positive. It only holds the Wiimote and not the nunchuck and is shaped like a real gun. If I ever got a Wii, that pistol and Umbrella Chronicles would be the first things I'd buy to go with it.
