First you need to know the Media ID of the discs you want to buy. Then you can search it up in this list. You probably only want discs with Media IDs that are 1st class media and if possible discs produced in Japan (I heard it's better than media produced in India for example but I'm not sure).

are some of the Verbatim DL DVDR's made in Singapore to?

I thought I read that this is the ones you want, but I could be wrong.

Yes, they are also made in Singapore but I don't know if they are the best, sorry. Verbatim DL media usually has a MKM00x media code.

So it seems if you were to buy online at Supermediastore or Newegg, you are just going to have to take a chance and hope you get the good ones.

I was hoping you might be able to tell from the packaging or something very obvious LOL.

I just have not had ANY DL coasters in years, and don't want to start now.

thanks for all the input Arnie

I have never bought media at the online stores you mentioned. But the online stores I bought from always show the media code in the disc info online.

Usually I buy them here or here. But they are local stores (I'm in the Netherlands).

I haven't really started my JSC transfer yet because I'm waiting for a voltage convertor fffffff has send to me. And I still have to buy a BNC cable (probably tomorrow).

thanks for the links Arnie,I will check and see if the stores I buy from show the code you speak of.

I am still tossing around doing the JSC myself,I have Star Wars on my hard drive now, just have done nothing with it,also still working on a Serenity Extended Edit.

For the record, I have had no problems with my Supermediastore  purchases.  Problems with my computer, that's another story.

Unfortunately, even if you buy from an online store which tells you the media code, that's no indication of the country of manufacture (discs from both Singapore and India have the same code). The only way to be confident of what you are getting is to examine the packaging.

People say that the India discs are inferior. I wouldn't know - I'm a cheapskate who doesn't pay the premium for Verb discs.

Verbatim runs their own plants, so the country doesn't matter much. (It does with most brands).

If I recall, though, Verb quality vs. country, has been debated by people who burn ridiculous numbers of dvds.

And, of course, there's always variability by batch. (Which is hard to accept when you're paying for dual-layer).

I like Rima.com, for ordering. But then they're almost local, to me, so ground gets here in a couple of days. (Meaning I haven't tried others). They've got a good rep, too.

Taiwanese manufacturers make 'em cheap. They haven't developed long-lasting dyes.

There's at least one manufacturer that licences a Taiwanese manufacturer to use a good dye, but I don't recall the name anymore (one of the good-rep ones), so the problem doesn't apply to that brand.

One day I found... 10 years had got behind me. Next day was worse.

Download  shows from Cable DVR (Updated! Yes, it needs a rewrite, but it's worth slogging through, anyway).

well I found out that my Best Buy carries Verbatim 8x DL made in Singapore for $33 for 15.

So I snagged some.
