Unusual Sequel Trilogy Radical Redux Ideas Thread — Page 38

Perhaps someone could try making Reylo work a little better by having Ben NOT be Han & Leias kid ? Make Rey & Ben both former students of Lukes that Luke thought died & he would have no idea they are alive since he immediately cut himself off from the force. Make them both connected more by giving them similar back stories & make them both orphans. To explain the Leia & Rey hug in TFA have it so that Leia & Han could not have had kids & this is why they divorced. Leia during her visits with Luke got attached to Rey as a kid & Han while he visited Luke got along with Ben & they were both helping Luke with rough around the edges students. Luke would obviously let his students still stay in touch & visit family etc

Explain it all in the crawl

It’s interesting how John Williams’ style is so melodic than any excerpt can become a motif if you just have it repeat.

I disagree. The excerpt Rogue Leader used isn’t really recognizable. We need something more distinct. Kylo and Rey’s theme complement each other (probably deliberately) so maybe a blend of those two could fulfill the role of a love theme?

Sort of related to a ST idea, but does anyone have access to, or know where I could find, isolated dialogue from Vader and Luke’s “I am your father” interaction in ESB? I’m specifically looking for an isolated version of Vader’s line, “We can put an end to this destructive conflict, and bring order to the galaxy!”

Somebody fairly recently posted a link to the old starwars.com soundboard for download that had “join me and together we can rule the galaxy as father and son” but not that specific line. What do you have in mind?

Thanks! Yeah, I’ve found that line isolated on YouTube as well.

I wanted to play around with an idea where Kylo actually hears Vader speak to him when he tries to commune with his helmet in TFA. Maybe have a vision (show me the power of the darkness), or just a voice, still not sure. But I thought it could be a good way to add context to why Kylo joined the dark side, as well as foreshadow Palpatine’s manipulation.

I was thinking Kylo could hear, “End this destructive conflict… And bring order to the galaxy…”

Basically, Kylo thinks he has to become this monster for the greater good. To save the galaxy from chaos and “disorder”. So when he kills Han, it isn’t because he hates him, but because he thinks he has to sacrifice any connections to his old identity in order to be powerful enough to create this new order in the galaxy. Only the dark side will give him the power to do that.

Really he is driven by more personal and emotional reasons, but that’s his rationale.

I really like it! I’m personally split on adding anything to the Kylo/Vader scene because on one hand I think it’s really powerful to have Kylo be the only speaker so the audience is always wondering what he’s hearing, but on the other it’s a great way to to reinforce his motives like you say.

I’ve thought it would be rather interesting to find lines that Palpatine shares with Snoke and kind of have them bleed into each other every once in a while, since Palpatine is a literal puppeteer for Snoke. Since he’s in such a weak state it would make sense that he can’t maintain the Snoke voice all the time.

Yeah, it is definitely a pro/con situation. A part of me would like to be shown rather than told what Kylo has seen that compelled him to take this path, and I think seeing/hearing something would add to the impact of realizing he has been manipulated by Palpatine since the beginning. It would be cool to hear Vader’s voice speak to Kylo at least once before We hear Palpatine mimic it in IX.

Then again, I like Kylo basically praying to his grandfather, and not necessarily getting that response. Leaving it open to the imagination.

I think the issue is that what Vader started that Kylo is trying to finish is left rather ambiguous, and I think it makes it harder for the audience to sympathize with him.

Maybe if you didn’t want manifest a voice or vision, you could give Kylo extra dialogue where he verbalizes his goal more explicitly.

This is what he says:

Forgive me. I feel it again. The pull to the light. Supreme Leader senses it. Show me again, the power of the darkness, and I will let nothing stand in our way. Show me, Grandfather, and I will finish what you started.

See. It’s pretty ambiguous. At the very least you could add one line like this:

Forgive me. I feel it again. The pull to the light. Supreme Leader senses it. Show me again, the power of the darkness, and I will let nothing stand in our way. I will bring order to the galaxy. Show me, Grandfather, and I will finish what you started.

Your Snoke idea is pretty interesting too! I think it would fit in well when he speaking through a hologram, you could have the hologram voice distort and have Palpatine’s voice merged with Snoke’s. Maybe not immediately noticeable but in retrospect it would be another little clue.

That’s such a good idea, hearing Palpatine echo Snoke’s dialogue is pretty doable and would tie the films together seamlessly.

Maybe take the “I have been every voice you have ever heard inside your head” further too. Hearing whispers of Palpatine (or his best Vader impression) over Kylo - especially when he’s about to have his rage attacks - would really drive in that message that Ben’s been haunted and manipulated by Sheev forever. Hearing the voices in his head could be the main thing setting him off to lash out if they built up along with his movements.

Yeah, it’s canon from the Rise of Kylo Ren comic that Snoke telepathically speaks to Kylo (and has since he was a child). I wouldn’t put whispers of Palpatine in in any way which would imply he is still actually alive, since Snoke working for/being Palpatine seems to be a surprise to Kylo in TROS.

Palpatine’s lifelong torment/manipulation (via Snoke/Vader voices) really works, IMO, and makes both characters’ stories in the sequel trilogy better.

Here are my sequel ideas.
I came up with the idea of there being two Star Wars Galaxies, the beta galaxy containing the Blue Ray versions of the Original Trilogy and the Disney Canon and the original galaxy containing the theatrical versions of the original trilogy, the early Expanded Universe, and alternate prequels and sequels. In our universe, the Whills influenced Lucasfilm to document the historical events in the beta galaxy but in other parallel universes the Whills influenced Lucasfilm to document the historical events in the original galaxy.

In those universes, the prequels were produced soon after the original trilogy and the first sequel movie titled the New Jedi Order was released in 1999 and takes place 22 years after A New Hope. It contains Jacen and Jaina Solo. Jacen is played by a young Adam Driver. https://fandom-fanon.fandom.com/wiki/Original_Star_Wars_Galaxy#Star_Wars_The_New_Jedi_Order

Then came the animated New Jedi Order TV series. https://fandom-fanon.fandom.com/wiki/Original_Star_Wars_Galaxy#The_New_Jedi_Order_TV_Series

Then in 2005, the movie Star Wars The Rise of Ren was released, which documents Jacen’s turn to the dark side and becoming Kylo Ren. https://fandom-fanon.fandom.com/wiki/Original_Star_Wars_Galaxy#Star_Wars_The_Rise_of_Ren

Then in 2007, The Force Awakens was released. The main protagonist was Kira who is played by Megan Fox instead of Rey since Daisy Ridley was too young. Finn is played by Michael B. Jordan since John Boyega was too young. The plot does not copy A New Hope and unlike Rey, Kira is not a Marie Sue https://fandom-fanon.fandom.com/wiki/Original_Star_Wars_Galaxy#Star_Wars_The_Force_Awakens.282007.29

In 2009, The Last Jedi was released. In this version Luke was not out of character, he went into exile to the First Jedi Temple to seek knowledge on how to defeat Snoke. There are no annoying Admiral Holdo scenes. It is another character that sacrifices themself to ram the “Raddus” into the Star Destroyer. And Snoke does not die. He remains the main antagonist.

Finally in 2011, the last sequel movie Duel of the Fates was released. Part of the plot is similar to Colin Treverrow’s leaked script. The character Rey played by Daisy Ridley appears in this movie as another stormtrooper who defected from the First Order.

The ending is similar to the Rise of Skywalker except that it is Snoke who is confronted in the final battle. Palpatine does not come back from the dead. https://fandom-fanon.fandom.com/wiki/Original_Star_Wars_Galaxy#Star_Wars_Duel_of_the_Fates.282011.29

Think you might be in the wrong thread. This would fit better in Script Writing and Rewriting.

I was originally planning to post it there but then I saw an announcement that this is one of the few threads where mentioning spoilers from Episode IX is allowed.

At this point I think TROS spoilers are probably allowed everywhere.

Pretty good!

Well done. I will disengage self-destruct initiative.

Ebkas that’s really great. Yoda did look “ok” in TLJ but not perfect. He was noticeably fatter.

heil palpatine.

Wow, that’s almost seamless! The way his face looked smaller in comparison to his body always bugged me in the original.

How long did that take? Should I assume from the length it wouldn’t be possible to do that for the whole scene?

You’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Am I making Carrie Fisher’s ghost proud?”
Well, are ya, punk?

How did you achieve this? A still frame from ESB blended and manually warped to match the TLJ animation, or is it something more like a Deepfake?

Edit: looking at how some of his eyewrinkles remain in place - EBSynth?

That’d be a hilarious usage of that technology. Deepfake a puppet with another puppet lol
