Two random ROTJ observations about the Twin revelation.

I know that there wasn't enough time in the movie to go into this, but does anyone else find Han's reaction to Luke and Leia being brother and sister a little odd? It's like he just gives it 2 seconds thought and laughs it off. Wouldn't he be like "whoa whoa, how the hell did that happen?" and "You made out with your brother!" It's always disappointed me, but I know it happened at the end of the movie and there wasn't enough time to go into that.

Also, I love Carrie Fisher. Her performance as Princess Leia in Empire is great. But, every time I watch ROTJ, I feel like she didn't deliver in the scene where Luke reveals they are twins. It's an important scene for the franchise and I think her performance in that scene is disappointing and not what was needed.

So this thread contains...twin observations?

Thanks, I'll be here all week.

I love coming here immediately after Frink, reading all his pointless contributions, and then adding my own equally purposeless jokes.

You're right, Leo87...she didn't carrie her own weight when giving that performance.  It's as if that revelation creates a great fisher between them instead of drawing them closer.

He didn't just laugh it off, he was all like whaaa

And it is super very obvious that the kiss was only to make Han jealous. It was a show. It was not an intimate and sincere kiss. I'm sure later they would have a good laugh about it, but even in Empire nobody took that kiss seriously.

There could have been an extra scene where Leia explains her family tree to Han, but not really necessary.

I agree that scene was on the weak side.

The blue elephant in the room.

The script is very good for Luke's part, but her lines are awful.  I don't think anyone could have made her lines work.

I always thought that Han's reaction was on the order of... "huh? oh... OH, COOL!"

As far as the incest thing, to me the most uncomfortable part - in retrospect - was the end of ESB where it looks like with Han gone the other two are going to be a couple.  He puts his arm around her and she doesn't object.  Who KNOWS what happened between then and their return to Tatooine, eh!?

I believe Robot Chicken already answered that question. ;)

Where were you in '77?

Yeah, it's not like they shared an intimate encounter and almost kissed before Han walked in or anything.  That would just be nutty.

Or that Luke guilt tripped her into kissing him on multiple occasions by bringing up old Ben in a sad manner. =P

In hindsight its remarkable how lucky Lucas was in Luke and Leia not having nearly as much romantic subtext as they could have in the first two films.

This sort of stuff does happen all the time in the real world, though. There are stories of long lost twins meeting, 'falling in love' so to speak and only realising they are related when they go to get married.

Still, Obi-Wan could have mentioned it.

"The kiss" was no big deal right, I mean if its good enough for SW, then its good enough for Angelina Jolie and her brother.  ;-)

I don't think the "reveal" scene is rushed because they had no time to make it longuer. It's just that the audience already knows the truth and does not share Han's surprise. So it would be pointless from a storytelling point of view to spend more minutes of Han getting shocked, asking questions etc...

It's just a scene that needed to be shot because Han needed to know the truth (for the movie to end "properly"), but not really the audience.

I miss SSWR's edit of that scene.

Han smiles and says, "Convenient".

Maybe it doesn't play that way anymore, but at the time, Han's reaction was just a crowd-pleasing moment that got laughs. It feels like Lawrence Kasdan trying to deflate the lameness of the reveal with a joke. And it sort of actually worked because crowds loved Ford/Han so much.

For me it shows he has grown more mature. He's a Jedi, he can sense things and this is something he maybe sensed once he got upto speed with his training.

Bow chica bow wow!

Since they're like poetry, what with the rhyming and all, I find that I only need to watch three out of the six films.

I think "wow" would have sufficed...just...plain..."wow."

I remember alot when I saw Jedi in the theater in '83, but I can't remember the crowd reaction when Leia tells Han that Luke is her brother.

However, I vividly remember when ESB SE came to theaters in 1997 and Leia kisses Luke, the whole crowd went, "Ewwwwwww!"
