No way. It would have been brilliant, not... creepy and boring like Spielberg's.

HAVE YOU SEEN 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY ??? THAT ENDING WAS RATHER BORING.

Boring?!?! That movie is a masterpiece!! I've seen it several times, and it was never boring at all!
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

The Life of David Gale
The Others
A Beautiful Mind (sorta)
American Beauty (sorta)
Matchstick Men
The Score

and one of the most beautiful and well thought out twists in a movie has to be Mulholland Drive.
forget the David Lynch haters out there.
this movie takes twist to a whole other level.

A Beautiful Mind is probably the only film based on real life events that has a good plot twist. It was quite good I belive.

I wouldn't say that the ending is boring, but it is an ending that I can't get. It's too convuluted for me.

Dave travels in his pod to the giant floating monolith, which is actually a stargate, and gets transported a million light years to some interstellar zoo. There in the zoo the aliens observe him, watching him age through the years, before transforming him into some kind of elevated space god.

Of course, I had to skim through the actual book to get the actual meaning behind the ending.

Wow, I never would have gotten that from the film. But it was entertaining.

That's the great thing about 2001, that's only one interpretation of the ending.  And just because it's in the book doesn't mean it's any more true.  Kubrick and Clarke wrote the book and movie at the same time, and IMHO Kubrick was the one with the genius.  Not to rob Clarke of any glory, I'm just saying Kubrick could have and did have other things in mind than an "alien zoo".  Although I do like that interpretation (I just like others more).

Oh yeah, ummm, no spoilers! :p

Oh yeah, Frailty! Underrated movie.

Quoted For Truth!  Who would have thought Paxton + McConaughey = brilliance?  The universe works in mysterious ways...

It wasn't really an alien zoo. It was sort of like an alien lab or something run on automation, carefully constructed from monitored television transmissions, and designed to make him feel at ease before it got to work turning him into the star-child

But all that's on the surface.  The whole movie can be seen as an allegory for humans self-destructive behavior - that our tools we create end up destroying us (hence the famous cut from the bone to the nuclear hub in space, not to mention HAL).  I've always preferred the more metaphorical explanation, or even a religious one.  People forget that Kubrick was very religious.  Here's one explanation:

Dave (along with all humans) want to find out the answers to things, that's why they do everything they do.  They see something they can't explain (monolith [religion/god/nature]) and they do everything they can to find out what it is, or what is all means.  They even go to the edges of the solar system to find the answers, and still get none.  It isn't until he dies, and is in the presence of god, that all is revealed to him in the form of the Star Child.  I'm not religious by any means, but again, it's just one of many, many interpretations.

If you really want some crazy interpretations, watch it on shrooms - it was like seeing it for the first time!

Yeah, I am not religious either but was always intrigued by all of the mythologies. That was the first thing that came to mind when I first saw the movie. Dave was having some sort of religious experience.

Doesn't pretty much every horror, suspense, or mystery film (and Scooby Doo episode) have a twist?

Isn't the question more along the lines of: Which twists really caught you off guard?

IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!
