i don't understand the hype around him either...i also don't understand how he's managed to release more music after he died then he did when he was still alive...i mean really, he's been dead for how long now, and he still manages to release a new cd every year or so...how is this possible?!?!?!

And I don't remeber anybody liking him until he died.

It's the martyr effect. Because he was murdered he becomes a saint in the eyes of people who otherwise might only have had a passing interest in his music.

But still you can't compare him to John Lennon or Elvis (They have equal fame IMHO). There both rock gods. Plus Lennon fans don't get angry when you call him stupid.

Sorta like Dimebag Darrell of Pantera.

Only difference is people idolized him while he was still alive anyway, and for good reason.

Well what about Kurt Cobain? Nirvana rocked, but no one really idolizes him.

Because Nirvana was in the zone between "mediocre" and "ok".

Good. Lennon is stupid !

No, I'm just kidding.

As for why the reaction isn't the same with Lennon?

Good question. I guess it's because rap really does rot the brain, or something. Eh, I don't mean this in a racist way, but you know how some people are. They freak out if you say something negative about a black person and call you a racist, even if your comment wasn't so in the least.

Red heads ROCK. Blondes do not rock. Nuff said.

tupac was an engima, he was famous and is idolised because of his work, almost every single one of his songs had more mean when reading between the lines and people respected his for that, he was one of the first true political rapper, and tried his hardest to describe the getto to the general population. so many of his songs were just heart touching, when you pay attention to the lyrics. you want some examples, listen to songs like 'life goes on', or 'all eyes on me'. changes is also a great song. in my experience most people that dislike tupac cant relate to his music and thus can understand why he is considered great. vinilla ice was a peice of shit i can beleive you would even compare the shit that guy spat out to tupac stuff.

as for how tupac is still releasign stuff. thats all cutting board stuff. people dont release that most of the time rappers will go into the studio and free style away till they find something they like, and use that as there song. there is so much stuff that tupac made that wasnt released and thats why its still coming out every now and then. i think on one of his records eminem set a record by recording an entire album in 12 hours.

Nirvana became internationally famous in 1992. Cobain died two years later. If he'd been around 5 more years or so, and had a couple more albums out, I think he'd qualify as a Lennon or Elvis.

exactly...the tragedy of Kurt Cobain is the lost potential...he was a good songwriter & was getting better

the impact of his suicide was not so much the loss of what was, but what could have been

People idolized Tupac when he was alive, just not the type of people that make up most of this site. Dead men can do no wrong; Tupac won't have the opportunity to release albums during periods of waning popularity, so he'll be remembered as flawless by his fans.

Tupac was a dunce... his "music" (a.k.a. expensive karaoke) is and always was terrible (although a few were catchy, probably from the loops he stole from other musicians) and his fans are all knuckleheads. All of them.

Kurt Cobain was idolized before and after his death. His suicide was the healthiest thing to have happened to his career as far as his legacy is concerned. Grunge was on the way out, Cobain's buckshot or not, and he knocked himself off as the rollercoaster paused at the top of the track. He would have released terrible albums, no doubt about it.... Look at Pearl Jam. If Eddie Vetter had hung himself from some rafters the day after Cobain put lead through his head they'd both be remembered as angels. I loved Nrivana back in the day, and I still listen to them occasionally... but Coabin bled that scene dry.

Elvis is overrated. Way, way overrated. He was the Eminem (and this is coming from someone who thinks Eminem is a walking ball of douche who gets paid to create unlistenable douche noise) of 50's and 60's Rock and Roll. He repackaged an existing flavor of music for an audience with lots and lots of money, and he's remembered as some musical prodigy. If he continued to live any longer during his fat, drug-addicted slob period he would have begun to taint his legacy. For Elvis fans it's probably best that he died when he did, although sooner would have been better I suppose.
