Well, if I was on a forum about politics, I'd complain about frauds and liars who do real damage to the world. But I'm on a forum about Star Wars, so I complain about liars and frauds who do damage to the Star Wars world. Quite a stretch, I know, but, believe it or not, that's how it works.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

So those who complain about GL are losers? Then what about those who concern themselves with how others feel and talk about GL?

I'm not concerning myself with anything you're doing. I'm merely pointing out your stupidity.

And defending him to the ends of the earth - as your role model Gomer does - isn't dorky and isn't loseresque? And defending that defender isn't dorky and loseresque?

Criticizing people who criticize Lucas for criticizing Lucas - yeah, you're brilliant. Way to go. By the way, that card you keep flipping over? It says the same thing on both sides. You're welcome.

Why are you here anyway? There is an obvious bias inherent in this site, so if you don't agree with it why be here? That's like me, a San Antonio Spurs fan, spending time on a Lakers or Mavericks site. I don't like those teams, therefore I don't spend time at forums about them.

See how this works?

Well, you're probably a hardcore PT fan, so I probably need to spend the nest six hours spelling everything out. It'll probably be more compelling than your favorite trilogy.

Great, namecalling after 3 posts. The highest form of debate! Only Vaapad trumps it. Have you undergone the training for that from Master Windu?

Please don't pull out the "you only have # posts" bullcrap. It's old and meaningless, and is an obvious attempt to deviate from the actual argument.

You're right. The example above accomplishes far more. You couldn't get a more balanced view of things than my original post. I showed where both sides go awry, and you keep making my point on one end. Many thanks. Now, i'd like to discuss the topic as opposed to contributing to the namecalling if you don't mind. I'm sure the mods here have better things to do.

GL is a businessman. I don't begrudge him for using the free market to line his pockets in the least. Yay capitalism...

On the other hand, I don't understand those who feel the need to protect him either. He's gonna die a billionaire all the same and thousands will line up to see his casket. He's gonna be just fine, trust me.
The man has brought almost a lifetime (so far) of joy into my life, protecting him from people who put him down all the time is the least I could do in return. I will always be grateful to Lucas for creating and maintaining Star Wars.

Also, I do feel bad for fans who didn't like much of what Lucas has done since the O-OT. Not that they are wrong in some way (taste is subjective), but just because I know they really would have liked to have enjoyed things more than they have. One of the reasons I think I ended up liking things as much as I have was due to me seeing other people's different points of view. I took a step back from the internet and realized that while every one of us had individual points of view, together, we loved and hated just about every second of the saga.

I went through a period of time where I really didn't like the Ewoks. But I got to TFN and found that there were other Star Wars fans who loved them. At first I found the idea preposterous, but when I read the reasons they loved them I saw what they were saying, it changed my mind, and now I enjoy ROTJ that much more because of it.

So as I seek out all the reasons to enjoy the Star Wars saga, I try to share them with others in case it happens to help.

I just figure, the movies are what the movies are. Enjoying them as much as we can is in our best interests as fans.

It's not like we are going to gain anything by not enjoying them.

That said, not everyone will enjoy them.

You ARE concerning yourself with it, MORON! It's too bad you're blind to your own stupidity. You should thank me for pointing that out to you. I could have let you live in ignorance. Now go watch your special editions.

Hmm, seems we've taken to bashing each other. We accomplished the original mission of the site guys, I doubt GL can totally satisfy every fan. I think this is as good as we're going to get for some time to come. Remember that people do read this forum. They won't be impressed if we bash each other instead of Lucasfilm. I for one plan on buying the new DVD release of the OOT.

I don't have a widescreen TV, so I'm almost totally satisfied with the DVD release. I just wish the original theatrical trailers would have been included instead of the 2004 DVD version of the movies.

Which is fine, but some people aren't. As soon as a proper version comes out, though, everybody will be happy. Until then, the battle will continue.

The original mission was to get a DVD release, not an LD transfer. No, he can't satisfy everyone, but he can satisy a vast majority with a proper OOT DVD release. And hopefully he will someday. And I'd be amazed if anyone at LFL reads here.

I guess the original mission of this site was fulfilled, though I had no idea we would have to specify we wanted standard DVD quality. I too am completely satisfied with this release. I will never need anything more Star Wars for years and years, but I agree we could have gotten a lot more. Part of me thanks the maker that there was no remastering, because I didn't want to see Vader with a pink saber again and a totally f'ed up 5.1 track.

The original mission of this site may be accomplished, but that doesn't mean we give up now. Lucas may have done this release out of malice, but us buying them is kind of like giving him the finger. Buying them is saying "this isn't what you expected, now is it? People embracing the OOT." At the same time we buy, we still want more, which he knows. This is gaining momentum, and I think re-opening the petition or doing something to that extent for Star Wars OOT on hi-def could prove a worthy endevor. I don't need and will not buy another DVD release, but a hi-def release would be very cool. DVD is where Star Wars needs it, I know, because blu-ray and HD-DVD will never ever catch on as the next home video formats, but rather like laserdisc, a niche product. But still, securing Star Wars OOT on hi-def is just as, if not more important, as securing it in good quality on DVD. The home video format that will replace DVD will become big in about ten to fifteen years, and although I'm sure it won't be Blu-Ray of HD DVD, securing the OOT there will secure it for all time in hi-def, which is the way of the future, and if the OOT is to be remembered, then that's where it needs to be preserved.

I still love George Lucas. He created one of my favorite things of all time. No, he didn’t do it all alone, but without him none of this would be here. I don’t agree with everything he’s said and done, but I feel the good vastly outweighs the negative. It’s very easy to lose perspective by focusing on an aspect you don’t like, but when I back up and look at everything, I’m just so happy and appreciative that George Lucas made Star Wars.

I got it all out of my system years ago. I respect nearly everything George has done. Except removing the Original cuts of his films from being widely available. As for the Special Edition it wore out its novelty pretty quick. But nobody ever argued he did not have the right to fix the films how he wanted. Only that fans be given a choice over which version they want to see.

I would argue some of the changes were valid updating the sound mix, fixing matte lines, replacing cardboard backgrounds. Fixing the shot where the Landspeeder wheels were visible and blurred with vasoline on the lens.
Restoring the image. Replacing the unstable color reversal stock with original negative shots and recombining them. But then he added a bunch of cartoon cgi that aged worse than the original effects, put an awful version of Jabba into the movie, dinosaurs in Mos Eisley Why? He also had Han shoot second and removed some laser burns on a that guy in the black uniform on the death star. Never mind years later making Boba sound like Jango or putting Hayden into Return of the Jedi, or ruining the Emperor scene in Empire Strikes Back.

He had a right to think he did not achieve what he set out to do on the Original production. But preserve for posterity the version that fans fell in love with, and won all those academy awards.

Lucas had a massive impact on Cinema though. You need only look to digital editing, and digital sound or movies shot digitally to see the impact he had on modern cinema. He pushed all the technology forward when few were doing it.

People are bashing George on here?

Not really anymore, but they used to. The whole reason this thread was created was because people were wishing death on George when he released the GOUT DVD’s. The bashing has kind of softened over the years, but it still feels like some people here don’t really appreciate George’s positive contributions to the Star Wars franchise.

My preferred saga experience:
ANH (4K77), ESB (Harmy), ROTJ (4K83).
Everything else is optional.

I just wanted to post some nice things about George without starting a new thread, so I found this one. I agree with everything in the Revisionist thread, and I think that collection of information is extremely important to maintain, but I still love Star Wars and appreciate Lucas for creating the sandbox. I’ve thought about starting a thread similar to the Revisionist thread to highlight some of the good things he’s actually done, but I’m not sure I’m knowledgeable enough to properly author it, or if there would be any interest in such a thing.
