I watched it this morning streaming it to my ps3 (haven't bought any blank blu-ray discs yet) and I must say it's a lot better than the original.  I wasn't a huge fan of the original, but have been forced to watch it many times since my wife is a huge fan of TFs.  Now I'll be able to watch it easier.   Right now I'm just going back through and fixing some of the errors I missed, and removed a couple additional bits I wasn't sure about before.

All in all, it took me about a 8 days to do this edit.  I probably spent a day on it when I could only edit the DVD, then left it until last weekend when I got my new computer and started on the blu-ray.  I can't believe it turned out as well as it did considering I'm only using Nero (hate this software) and it kept screwing up the timestamps and going to frames that were 5 minutes off right in the middle of a scene.  This is only my second fanedit, the first being a combination of the matrix sequels minus about 40 minutes.

As for ROTF, I actually liked it more than the first movie, but there's still tons than needs to be trimmed.  I've thought of combining the 2 into one long movie (with a whole "2 years later" transition or something).  I'm definitely cutting out the first couple of minutes with prehistoric man, it's very cheesy and it's stupid to provide that information to the audience way before it's laid out for the characters.

Sounds great. I'd like to see how you cut the dewbot scene without a hard audio cut. I didn't think it was entirely impossible, just not worth the effort for a jokebot that shoots soda cans for a weapon.

I've thought of rearranging some of the scenes similar to what you mentioned.

Would like to see what you come up with.

Well, I thought I was done editing.  Every time I watch it or skim through it I notice phantom frames that I somehow missed and have to fix or change my mind on something or just find more to trim.  I *THINK* I'm done now.  I did some simple menus on Nero, nothing major or anything, just a few animated buttons and some music.  I'm just now downloading yours so I can see how you did a few things and how they turned out.  There were some bits I wanted to cut, but it just didn't look/sound right.  I'll make a short clip of the dewbot scene and get it on mediashare or somewhere like that.

I reread this thread too and saw a lot of people like the left cheek thing.  A lot of people at TFW wanted me to leave it in as well.  That was one of my first edits when I first did the DVD.  I found the joke mildly entertaining, but it completely kills the mood and pacing of the scene, and that specific line just makes me think of the guy in Armageddon with the telescope yelling at his wife, "get the book, get the book, get the book!"

I definitely kept in Simmons "criminal" lines.  He's probably my favorite human character, and I can't help but laugh at how he did the "Criminals are hot!" bit.

Here's where you can get my Dewbot clip:

Edit:  Sorry for the multiple posts.  I watched (or skimmed through) your cut tonight.  We definitely had some of the exact same cuts, even on some that I didn't get the idea for from your list.  Even some of the things I ended up keeping that you cut out I thought about or tried doing.  Most of those I decided against were just because they didn't feel right to me afterwards (the classroom scene for example, having the kids laughing without Sam being shot just didn't work for me, and it's unfortunate that that footage is where Sam starts talking about his report).

There are some definite differences too, especially now that my cut is about 7 minutes shorter than yours (I keep finding crap to cut!).  I know when I get to ROTF I'll be using different software.  Using Nero is frustrating since it limits what you can do, particularly with audio a great deal.  Nero doesn't allow you to overlap or shift or any of that stuff without going through a ton of trouble to create a 2nd audio source, and even then it's not simple.

I did prefer how you cut Frenzy's movement from the plane to Barricade better than mine, and I forgot to change that before I burned my Blu-Ray.  I suppose I can run it all over again tomorrow, that's what BD-RE's are for I suppose.  Finally got my menus to work, sadly I had to remove the animation of the buttons and make them stills.  Don't know why it doesn't want to work with audio and animation at the same time.  That's Nero for you.

Oh, I just remembered, your issue with "I'll drive, you shoot!"  I went about that a different way that only involved one cut.  I didn't bother with "shoot, shoot" (it's very short and I didn't want to bother trying to line up the audio to make it work).  Anyway, I cut from the first shot of Mikaela shifting the truck to right after she says the drive/shoot line and she's goes in reverse.  I don't think the shot of the truck coming out of the alley and then lining up in the street is really necessary.

Edit (again):  Well I learned a little more about Nero last night and found an easier way to deal with some of the audio problems.  So I was able to trim a little bit more (fixed the issue I had with cutting more of the school scene - no more kids laughing), and perfect a few cuts a bit more.  Right now I've been able to cut right around 20 minutes from the total length of the film.  That's a far cry from the 4-5 minutes I had originally.

Anyway, I have no idea about how to get my version out for anyone to view.

Seed the files on a torrent site, right? Or else find some people who will do it.

Start a thread and have people PM you. Get their addresses and send them DVDRs and get them to promise to put the files online. That might work, right?

Also consider sending to someone who wouldn't mind uploading to a site like Rapidshare or Megaupload.

I started a thread a few weeks ago.  I have a DVD ready to go, just waiting for someone to send it to.

Nobody wants to do it?

It's been a slow process thus far.  Though I may have it uploaded by tonight.

On Megaupload.  It was uploaded but got deleted by accident trying to move it into a folder.  It's almost uploaded again, a few more hours and it'll be done.  I think someone else will get it more readily available for others to view.  I still need to upload the HD version (movie only).

Already have the Blu-ray for ROTF, and will possibly start editing this evening.
