Trailers during ROTS

Author
Time
Saw a good mix of trailers during my two viewings. Batman Begins looks quite good. Looks like a faithful adaptation of the origin of Batman, not like that travesty in the first Michael Keaton Batman movie. Also saw one for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. Also saw Fantastic Four trailer and Mr. & Mrs. Smith, which I will love because Angelina is in it.

Let me say that I'm a HUGE C.S. Lewis fan. I've got several of his books, including Mere Christianity, The Screwtape Letters, and The Great Divorce. I think he's the best Christian Apologist in the last century.

I just picked up the phonebook size 1 volume collected "Chronicles of Narnia". Has anyone else seen the trailer? What did you think? Have you read the books?

I read the books when I was a kid, a long, long time ago.

Let's see...I remember my theater showing:

Mr. & Mrs. Smith
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe
Fantastic Four
Stealth
War of the Worlds
>>Stripes: Special Edition DVD<< (well, that was really before the movie previews began)

I read the entire Chronicles of Narnia 2 or 3 times, but the last time was years ago. It does look like its going to be a really big movie. I looked practically LotR-ish in the trailer.

I've seen the movie twice and the trailers were exactly the same, let's see if I remember them in order...

Local ads
Disney's The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe
Fantastic Four
Sahara
The new Batman
War of the Worlds
One short local ad

then the film
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

Time
Mr & Mrs Smith
Batman Begins
Fantastic Four
War of the Worlds (I think)

And the normal lot of commercials. I tell ya, I know advertisers love playing their commercials before movies because they have a captive audience, but I've made it a personal quest to never buy any of the products or take advantage of the services advertised via commercials in the theater. That's how pissed off I get about them. I want to run a theater where commercials are banned and trailers are actually run before showtime. I would make this policy known ahead of time so people know to get there on time or ahead of time. I wonder if anyone has ever tried this sort of thing before and what luck they did (or did not) have.

There has been a lot of backlash about that. There's a chain on the East Coast called Loews that has announced that they will advertise the actual start time now, not the time commercials/previews start, like in the past.

We have Loews out here in the Midwest as well. I wonder if this will be the case for all of them. More power to them. I'll be curious to see if there is any advertiser backlash.

When are they starting to do this?

I believe they've already started.

The advertisers won't really have anything to say about it in the short term, IMO. Mostly because people are starting to sue the theaters over this. Again, IMO: This will lead to the theaters and studios putting commercials in DURING the movie. I don't think this will happen soon, however in ten years? I can picture that easily. That's why I'm building my home theater when I get into the new house.

Also, keep in mind that for the big movies like ROTS, people will still need to get there early to get a good seat. Who knows how it'll end up?

False start times...along the lines of "You advertise start of the movie at 8:00pm, but it doesn't really start until 8:20pm, costing me time, etc."

Weird. Both times I watched episode 3, the movie began almost on time, about 4 or 5 minutes late, even though there were ads (not on the midnight premiere session) and trailers. This is highly unusual here, movies also start late. Perhaps they've learned their lesson?

Trailors I saw before RotS:"

Mr. and Ms. Smith
Stealth
Fantastic Four
The Honeymooners

There may have been more and that probably isn't the right order. I was actually surprised by how relatively few there were.

Ugh, I saw the Honeymooners too.

I went to a Lowes theater for the midnight ROTS showing (12:07 show), and they started the adds a few minutes before midnight, with the 20th Century Fox logo appearing right at 12:07.

I was somewhat disappointed that the War of the Worlds trailer before the movie was the same as the super bowl one.

This theatre normally has at least ten trailers before the film.

Ten? Wow... Over here it's 6 tops. With some local ads beforehand. And of course, that little information film about turning off cell phones and stuff - which people DON'T comply anymore. People used to really turn off their cell phones (I do), but now they even talk on their cell phones during the film, and sometimes they want to COMPETE with the THX sound system, so they can see who's louder... I don't know why I keep going to movie theaters, I hate people!

Like Clerks:

"You're going? But you hate people!"
"Yes, but I love gatherings. Isn't that ironic?"

I like trailers.

When i saw it they showed, in no particular order

Mr. & Mrs. Smith
Fantastic 4
Batman Begins
Chronicles of Narnia
War of the Worlds

i think thats it, however im pretty sure that the War of the Worlds trailer was different on the digital showing than on the film one, and Mr. & Mrs. Smith may have been as well, i dont totally remember, but i distinctly remember that the War of the Worlds trailer was different.

The theater I was at showed all the ones that Darth Simon listed, but also with Stealth and Cinderella Man. I thought they all looked good except for Stealth.

I wasn't expecting Chronicles of Narnia to be any good, because I don't like the books... But they actually made it look like it could be very good in the trailer. Cinderella Man has a dumb name, but it looks like a good movie.

I kinda dig on the name Cinderella Man. Plays on the whole "come from nothing and take it all" ideal. Besides, Rocky was taken.

The narnia trailer was actually better than revenge of the sith.
