One post per hour is too stringent. I mean, the Politics thread would be way less lively if that were the case.

I mean for new members. Lots of forums essentially have tiers, with the new member tiers having limited abilities. You can ask a question with your one post per [time limit], but you can’t spam. Once you reach a certain duration as a member, or post count, your limits can be reduced.

It doesn’t prevent spammers from existing, but it slows them down. It makes it so they have to spend a week or more building up an account just for their several minutes of being a dick-face. Making admin-approved account creation will hopefully prevent them from just starting (and maintaining) 12 of them at once to build up an array of accounts.

What I find interesting about this is that this seems to only be isolated to one person, presumebably Wario64. If we can find a way to just get him out, which may be hard to do due to such things like VPNs and proxies, I think 95% of this problem would be solved. The other 5% comes from the recent ad spam, whcich should be easy to solve.

Don’t you mean “you” would be less lively if that were the case?

I think you’re right. It’s unfortunate, since the forum is generally able to exist peacefully and mostly self-police. It works for the most part because of the relatively low traffic. But all this is exactly what this turdgobbler is exploiting. Assuming for a moment that Wario could eventually be permanently banned (he can’t) or that he would give up (this is probably all he has going in his life. He won’t), the site would still be wide open for the next little kid who wants to throw a tantrum.

On any given forum, even low-traffic ones, a certain level of trolling is to be expected. The fact that we don’t have more of it here is the part that I find exceptional, rather than Wario’s continued presence. Can you imagine how bad it would be if we were actually brigaded by a group? One user making tons of accounts is bad enough. We should have safeguards.

I’ve been trying to get my post per day count down in the last couple of days, or at least making them have more content.

I actually do think that a little bit of trolling in a forum is OK, kind of like how having people who disagree with the government is good for the government. This type of trolling, however, has no real benifit. It just makes everybody’s day shitty.

And at the end of the day I feel kind of sorry for whoever this is. (probably Wario) I mean, maybe life hasn’t been all that great for them, and since he’s not happy with that, chooes to take it out on other unassuming people. It’s sad, but that’s no excuse for the behavior.

Jesus fucking Christ man remove that link, or at least put a warning. I’m at work! That could totally fuck someone over, I didn’t know he was posting porn I just saw the crazy thread titles.

Fuck me man.

I work at a mental health charity and while I was waiting for one of my clients to turn up I thought I’d check up on the site for a bit. It was lucky nobody saw what was calculatedly offensive material. I worry about the mental health of someone who repeatedly does this sort out of thing.

um, no. No amount of trolling is acceptable. If you have a problem with how the forum is being run, say so. Make a serious post about it. Trolling is not needed.

Sure. Trolling is kind of used as a catch all term. There’s minor trolling where someone’s just kind of being obnoxious a wink and a nudge. In my opinion, stuff like that (Frink) works here because of the small size of the community, though it does mean he’ll rub off the wrong way on new people, and a few older members. I’m sure many disagree, but they can probably see the difference between that and what Wario does.

Other times people just use the word ‘trolling’ when they can’t possibly fathom that the person they’re arguing with might be speaking genuinely. Or they’re just a bit unrelenting about their point. Sometimes it’s just using the word to discredit people you disagree with, especially in political discussions.

And then there are people like Wario. At this point, if it was directed at an individual it would probably be considered harassment. It’s not really, though, so I’m not sure what to call it besides excessive and pathetic trolling.

I agree with you that his life probably is very unfortunate. I disagree about caring whatsoever about it. People have much harder lives than him, surely, and manage to not to be totally shitty. Alternatively, he could quite likely just be a bored kid with nothing to do, especially as school as out at the moment.

This was mostly what I was talking about.

I think me slightly caring in you not caring mostly comes down to a difference in our personalities.

It’s just something that happens. I can tolerate it if it isn’t morbidly obscene or spam.

I’ve gotta disagree with you there, man. I think a small amount of trolling is healthy, it lightens the mood, but if it’s something like this then I’ll agree it’s unacceptable.

Well, I worry more about my job than that pathetic jackass Wario64 or whatever the fuck he’s called. I go to like 3 websites at work, this being one of them - I had assumed it was safe but I suppose that’s my mistake. I hadn’t the slightest clue this was a recurring problem with this weirdo, this was the first I’d seen of it. I imagine if IT was like “Well let’s see what he’s looking at today…” and then bam, pictures of bizarre cartoon porn starts coming up on my traffic I can’t imagine they’d be happy. My explanation would be equally confusing “No you don’t understand, I wasn’t looking for bizarre cartoon porn I was just checking out a Star Wars site and some sad lonely kid posted all those pics.” It’s no one’s fault but his, I don’t know how you’d prevent such a thing… it’s the digital equivalent of someone willing to key a stranger’s car for no good reason whatsoever. It’s just tremendously annoying.

I think his mental health is pretty clear - he’s probably alone, well on the pathetic side, and desperate for any sort of attention even if it’s negative. That sucks for him, but there’s nothing I can do about that. My employment health is of greater concern to me.

While I do feel the slightest bit of emotion for this person, I do agree that this is unacceptable behavior. It is conceivable that someone could have lost their job for this. I think with most trolls, the intention is clear: Mild entertainment value for not that much effort. That’s what has happened here. The entertainment was getting a rise out of people. It’s sad, but that doesn’t make it acceptable.

Though Frink does annoy the shit out of me sometimes he’s still overall a genuine user like your saying. I think that’s the true distinction. Did you create an account to genuinely extend your love of Star Wars or to just troll people on a forum?

Not Wario64. Wario64 was a general troll, harmless, but that spamming today was some super-calculated politically-driven disinformation shit. Notice the “guilt-by-association” juxtaposition of Trump, wild racism, and anime porn. Reminiscent of Rick Wilson’s comments several months ago.
This is false-flag demonization-by-proxy of the highest order, and it will become more prevalent at Hitlery’s deranged agents provacateurs swarm the web to create non sequitur psychic associations to poison Chump’s credibility (such as it is).
