FanFiltration Presents: Star Wars: Making Magic (THE DVD)

This DVD is a Behind-the-Scenes look at the making of the Star Wars
Trilogy Special Edition. Produced by FanFiltration as a means to back up
and also preserve this now “Out-of-Print” Star Wars related CD-ROM title from 1997. This
DVD has video clips of a lot of the re-done scenes, storyboards for the
special edition, and interviews with the cast and crew of the Special
Editions including George Lucas. As far as I know, this title was only
included with “The LucasArts Archives Volume 2” CD-ROM game box set.
With the use of new menu routing, you can pretty much navigate the
entire program by just using the play button on your DVD players remote.

Video Capture: VGA to S-Video converter
Software: Adobe Premiere / After Effects / Photoshop / Encore
Video Encoder: Adobe (various bit rates)
Audio: TMPGEnc AC-3 (2.0 192 kbits/sec)
Menus: Adobe Encore & Photoshop
Notes: New intro made from scan of the original CD-ROM combined with a
screen shot from the movie. Music from the original Soundtrack
recordings used to replace the original CD-ROM’s music for menus.

A huge “THANK YOU” to Rikter who has done so much to get this releases out!

I remember buying the Lucasarts Archive just to see this CD-ROM.

I then managed to get a copy on the front of a PC magzine some months later, though I am pretty sure it is the same as the official disc.

It has some pretty decent content actually.

Looking forward to seeing this one.

PC Format in the UK had this Cd-ROM, although I'm not sure whether it was the full version or not. The disc also included a demo of rebel assault 2, which I'm sure took longer to install than it did to play

FF, where can we expect to see this turn up?

Nevermind, I've just started reading the torrent thread

I'm really looking forward to this. Very interested to see how it has been put together.

I have this CD-ROM, along with 'Behind The Magic' and a 'Behind The Magic - The Vehicles' (just an excerpt of the full BTM). Would love to see these get the same treatment - anyone

I have the Star Trek Encylopedia on DVD-ROM - wonder if that would suit this type of treatment - will have to take a look at that sometime.

Great cover Rikter.
where have i been all this time ?

There are some bonus trailers and a long "Making of" extra routed from the main menu that had not been included on the original CD-ROM. They are taken from the out-of-print SE laserdisc set. It's kind of an extra, as it is S.E. related and the CD-ROM was kind of short on it's own.

Please let me know what you guys think.

Enjoy!

Wow, awesome disc FF. Really enjoyed it, good work all round.

I was wondering if it might be possible for yourself, or someone else with the time, interest and capability, to knock up an inksaver version of the awesome cover, or even just the logo on a white background.

Thanks again for this fantastic contribution to the trading community

Just finnished downloading this from myspleen (and seeding). Looking forward to viewing it just as soon as its burned to DVD and got time to sit down and enjoy it. The proper cover looks fantastic printed out in my collection, give it the respect it deserves by using a bit of ink. If you really need the inksaver though i've just modified it for you....

Thank you very much. I really didnt mean to sound ungrateful or disrespectful, but with the price of ink these days. My blanks discs cost about a tenth of what lexmark ink costs!

Can anybody provide the original, black NON-ink saver cover?

I lost the file and since I am going to print this off on the color laser pritner at school, I may as well go all out.

The cost is the same either way, a mere 15 cents...so why not live a little?

Hell, I could print pure black covers simply out of spite. LOL.

With MoveAlong looking into the possibility of extracting the content from Making Magic the same way it was done with Behind The Magic, what are the possibilities of a FanFiltration Making Magic DVD v2.0 using directly ripped content rather than screen-capture content? The original preservation was great, but imagine it with "enhanced" video clips done by MoveAlong the way they were done for his Lost Scenes DVD (properly cropped, anamorphic widescreen, frame doubling so they run at 24fps instead of 12fps, etc.), and images and content taken directly out of the "bundle" file on from the original CD-ROM, rather than from screen captures.

I think this would be an incredible way to revisit this project. Is it a possibility?

Not sure if this thing is still seeding anyplace. Is it time for a re-release via torrents? If you think so, post here please. This would be a re-release of the original preservation project, not a re-done version... FF

So, I've brought the copy of "Star Wars: Making Magic DVD by FanFiltration" found on MySpleen up to 99.48% complete from a couple of different alternate sources, BUT several files are NOT verifying at 100%...so, is there anyone that has a MySpleen vetted copy that would be willing to RE-seed it the original copy, or should I simply RE-post it?

I'll leave my 99.48% verified copy under the original off and on for a week (so one could grab it now during the current freeleech), and if no takers I'll RE-post a 100% verified USENET copy.

All the best,

So, I think there was a little bit of a misunderstanding (rather than bringing back the ORIG MySpleen torrent created by Blaksvn in 2006, benduwan basically did exactly what I would have ended up doing myself in another week had no one come forward with a copy compatible with the ORIG MySpleen torrent).

In any event, it was a very well intended misunderstanding that DOES make effectively the SAME exact content again readily available on MySpleen...just not the the ORIG torrent posted by Blaksvn (which really should NOT be that huge deal to anyone).

Just wanted to update everyone about availability...to thank benduwan for their effort in putting it this "Making Magic" preservation back up on MySpleen...and, of course, HUGE thanks go to FanFiltration for their ORIG effort!

All the best! ;)

-A.S.

p.s.  For what it's worth, if anyone reads this and DOES happen to have a copy of the ORIG Blaksvn MySpleen upload, I would still be interested it...and, if you could, please PM me.

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

Thank you Darth Mallwalker, VERY MUCH appreciated!  benduwan's heart was definitely in the right place, but yes...this is definitely a superior (and preferable solution)!  I'll PM him and ask if he'd be willing to delete his RE-seed in favor of a now 100% original.

All the best! ;)
