Threepio or Artoo, which droid would YOU rather have?

Author
Time
I think I'd rather go with R2-D2 than C-3P0, although Threepio has his uses.

What say the rest of you?
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

Red heads ROCK. Blondes do not rock. Nuff said.

Seeing as how Threepio reminds me a lot of my grandmother and I've seen her almost every day for the last 15 years, I'd have to go with Artoo. Besides, I'd go on more WACKY ADVENTURES with Artoo.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

Definitely R2. Granted I like 3PO more now than I did as a kid, I'd still want to shut him down repeatedly. R2 just seems more practical, has a ton of cool gadgets, and apparently humans can translate his beeps and whirs after a while.

Without a doubt, R2D2. If I wanted someone for the UN, I'd go with C-3PO. R2D2 can actually fix stuff and do useful things. He can understand English, so it doesn't matter if I can't understand everything he says. Anyway, we can give him a small monitor so there can be a readout of what he is saying.

Definetly R2...or maybe the mouse droid on the Death Star! Does anyone even know what that droid does?
Author
Time
I always assumed the mouse droid went into small ducts within the ships or something that other droids couldn't fit in, but when you really think about it, it's really stupid.

R2 so I could have him electrocute people.

R2

i always found C-3PO rather annoying...still do to some extent

You guys fail to see one major point. R2 does as he wishes and not as he's told. He'd be worse than an overactive puppy with a bladder problem.

I'd rather have C3P0 because he can actually lift things, walk down steep terrain, and listen to you. (Oh yeah, I guess since AotC, R2 can fly now.)

yeah, but you have to listen to C-3PO talk, and he complains about everything. and im sure Artoo would do as he's told...he did what luke wanted him to in ROTJ (aid in the escape, launch the saber). He just doesnt listen to threepio (i guess occasionally he doesnt listen to humans, AOTC he did this, but that was cause it was for the best, so he can help/rescue them)

Think of all that Artoo can do. He has some accessory/gadget for just about any situation, can pilot an X-Wing, always willing to go on an adventure (actually he seems to enjoy them and seek them out), and he's got a good sense of humor, and im sure there are countless other pluses ive not mentioned.

what more could you want in a droid

Artoo rules.

Just read the Enemy Lines duology of the New Jedi Order. He plans the entire escape of Han and Leia from prison.

Definitely Threepio, I don't have any use for an astromech droid anyway, just a droid that can speak Bocci and program binary load lifters

Artoo could help me fix my computer everytime I screw it up.

Which only happens every year or two.

Wow very tough choice. Hmn.. OK probably 3po. I would ask him to teach me some languages he knew, make him do dinner and clean the house (something r2 would probably not be able to do)... After I got bored of it, I'd probably sell him on e-bay.

"Oh dear, master Ric, are you selling me on e-bay?"

"Well... not really, you see... This guy here, called uh... 'DarthLaider69', he wants only your arms... and this one over here, 'NeoMrAnderson', he wants one of your legs."

"But, what have I done to deserve this? Oh please, master Ric, don't sell me! I'll bring breakfast on your bed every morning! I'll clean your house, and do dinner and do the dishes..."

"Ah, you see, I don't need you anymore for these domestic things... 3po, meet Consuela De Los Anjos, she says she's from Colombia or Venezuela, she said she's not sure althought her passport said Peru, she'll be doing your job."

Consuela (in fast spanish): "Señor Ric yo no quiero hacer lo trabajo desta robota, es una robota muy assustadora yo creo que vai me matar en la noche!"

"OK whatever. So, uh, 3po, if you could just turn around so I can turn you off and break you into bits with this hammer."

A potential buyer surfs over to ebay and sees a droid up for auction. The droid is in fine condition except that its right arm is missing. The buyer in question contacts ricarleite by e-mail and asks him why the droid is missing its arm. ricarleite responds "Well, let me tell you something about that droid. That's the smartest droid you've ever seen in your life. That droid can speak Bocci, it can fly a speeder, it can pull warning labels off doors, it's a great negotiator--why, one time, it even convinced an entire Ewok village to join in the fight against the Empire. The potential buyer responds, writing, "That's amazing! But what happened to its right arm? ricarleite replies after a few days. The e-mail reads "Well, man, you don't sell a droid like that all at once!"

sure thats what he tells you...but we all know the truth now, what truth you ask? the one about his first job not really being to program binary load lifters (very similar to your moisture vaporators in most repects).

but you have to admit, apparently he is good at convincing people that he's the droid they're looking for

How can R2 be more useful? 3PO can speak and do things a human could do, r2 is usefull if you own a x-wing or a milenium falcon...

Exactly. If I can do those things, why do I need 3PO? We know he doesn't do domestic things like cleaning. And, somehow, I don't think I'd trust him with cooking. R2, on the other hand, I would have installed with a digital video recorder so he could playback shows with his holographic projector. Since he's an AI based robot, he would know to start recording a show right at the beginning and end whenever it actually ends since TV networks don't seem to follow the "on the half hour/on the hour" programming rules anymore. And he'd block all commercials. He could fix all busted appliances in my house. Work on my truck. Diagnose my computer problems and be preprogrammed with all the necessary serial numbers and passwords to make software copies

I would trust 3PO to do such things, yes. I'd trust him to cook, he's not incompetent, he's just misenderstood and sometimes a coward. He would not be afraid to cook or to clean up the house. And about R2, you would use it as a tivo? And how would you plug him in your computer? I'm not sure he has a USB2 port. And you wouldn't be able to understand what he says... I say 3PO, for sure.

I dunno... Luke seems to understand what he says. And if R2 can interface with some random Imperial computer network, I trust he could interface with something as simplistic as a PC. And since when does diagnosing a computer's problems involve a USB2 port? Last I checked, it involved typing and mousing around and possibly even pulling it apart. With all the stuff I've seen R2 interface with as well as pull apart and fix in both the OT and PT, I think he could handle it. 3PO just gets tangled up in cables.

Oh, and somehow I don't see 3PO on his knees scrubbing my kitchen floor.

I think R2 would be the perfect tool to have to interface with any and all electronic devices I own or would want to own.

Luke dosen't understand what he says. When he understood r2, he was reading it on the screen at his x-wing.

No, it was some sort of a Garfield and Jon sort of thing, Luke was talking to him in some sort of a monological way. The only time Luke actually understand exactly what artoo says is when he reads it on his screen at the x-wing ("no thanks, i want to keep it on manual for a while." or something like that)
