Thought on de-SE'ing the DVD — Page 18

IMDB says the SE's are 5.1, but I swear Neil (or someone) said they were 4.0 [EDIT] (Perhaps he meant they were mastered from a 4.0 source? That sounds more familiar.)

Regardless, I think it would be better to use the DVD PCM track as a master, rather than the LD AC3 converted to WAV, and then back to AC (which we'd have to do with the fronts anyways - unless the entirety of the LD soundtrack was used, minus "bring my ship" and Luke's yell, of course. )

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

MBJ, what info or advice can you give on upconverting from a 2.0 source to a 5.1 source. I know you've covered it in the past, but I'd love an in-depth guide on the process you used for creating your 5.1 master. I've tried following a guide at VideoHelp.com but it was fruitless in the end. Somebody needs to develop a simple program that will take a 2.0 source and convert it to 5.1. If it's matrixed, go with the matrixed info. If it's not, use whatever algorithm pro-logic uses to fake the surround and generate the streams that way.

Curious if this has been brought up in this thread (probably has but i don't remember everything i read in this long thread). Why not take a laserdisc with highest resolution (pal ld's) and make sure they are fullscreen dvd's (pan and scan or whatever). And seeing if you can't piece together scenes to patch into the dvd's. I'm mostly thinking that depending on how large something is, you might have enough size in a fullscreen pal copy that wouldn't look so horrible in with the regular dvd res. Say for instance Vader's head just the mask down to the neck, now on dvd in widescreen it will be smaller. pal fullscreen might be larger but when resized to fit the smaller dvd, it might be similar resolution that way.

Just a curious idea, which probably wouldn't work, but you never know.

I would be very grateful if you could upload the Emperor sequence in Empire, and the finale (mos eisley, coruscant etc) from Jedi.

Also, I have ripped the alternate angle with no problems. This was done with osex.

rotj_97_SE_ending.m2v 29 MB
esb_old_emperor.m2v 27 MB

These are muxed mpeg files with 2.0 english audio. File ending "mpg" was not allowed by the host.
Get it fast, it will probably be removed soon.

Unfortuantely the opening crawl (inlcuding star wars logo) is in german in my version so it is useless for you.

Greetings.

Could somebody please again upload these files, the original Han shoots first scene from ANH and the original "Star Wars" opening crawl?
Thanks in advance

For anybody interested, here are the three shots of Shaw that have been converted from PAL to NTSC and resized to match the dimensions of the official DVD. This may be the first post that actually addresses the original idea I put forth in the first post of this thread.

These replace the Hayden shots in NTSC perfectly.
