Unfortunately, there seems to be no end in sight to this formula outside the incorrect assumption that we need more superhero movies and war epics about the middle east.

yeah but what about the brady bunch/starsky & hutch/dukes of hazzard "based on a cheesy old TV series" movies that are not so much remakes but rather parodies of those shows? i can't wait to see what rotting and ironically unfashionable corpses they drag out of the vault next! three's company? hardcastle & mccormick? welcome back kotter! they gotta get french stewart to play horshack... that'd be funny. six million dollar man? the joke could be about how six million dollars doesn't exactly buy top-of-the-line cyborg limbs anymore. "he's the cyborg equivalent of a yugo!" ahhhhh, generation X and its insatiable appetite for kitsch.

heh, i think rocky has decent potential for a 6th outing. Heck, maybe this'll be structured so you can maybe leave out one or two of your least preferred sequels. I hope so because the 5th one is crap.

Now we've gotta make it. I want Philly to be prominently displayed throughout the film. I want Rocky to go broke and be living in the slums of Philly. I want to see the ugly and seedy side of the city. I want Philadelphians to kick him while he's down so we all feel for Rock and hate those that are taking their jabs at him.

Yeah! Yeah! MAKE THE MOVIE!!!!!!

you'll pay for that!!!!!!!!

Which would be ironic, because Rambo 3 has John Rambo fighting with the Taliban against the soviet invasion of Afganistan. Oh the irony!

Pretty much a reflection of how it began for the U.S. anyway. We supplied the arms to the Taliban to resist the Soviet invasion. Hell, Bin Laden was trained by the CIA.

I love Rambo 3 for exactly that reason - it highlights America's dualism in international matters while at the same time higlighting Hollywood's habit of jumping on the bandwagon and making stupid patriotic films that double as propaganda - in this case it highlighted how evil the commies were and how America helped the poor and needy afghanistan rebels in their hour of need. Plus it has that great scene where Rambo and the colonel are facing the entire Russian army:

The colonel, looking at the vast army before them, turns to John Rambo - 'what d'ya say john?'
Rambo - 'fuck 'em'
With that Rambo starts firing his machine gun.

Classic.

Hate to disappoint you, but that has no effect on me for several reason...

1. White Sox don't believe in curses.
2. Billygoats are the Cubs' achilles heal, not the Sox.
3. I'm not a Sox fan. Just want them to do well since the Cubs can't do it themselves.
4. I do not know what U.S. Cellular Field is. Where would that be? (sorry, I'm a true Chicagoan)

1. I was trying to spread the curse to the White Sox.

2. see #1

3. That is why I tried to spread the curse to the White Sox. But if that doesn't work, maybe I'll just try and bribe the White Sox into throwing the series.

4. I thought U.S. Cellular field was the name of the White Sox's home field. That is what the White Sox's own website says.

the funny thing about the series is that rambo isn't a hero at all in first blood. just the opposite, he's a psycho. any normal person would just keep on walkin' to the next town when the sheriff makes a point of personally giving him the bum's rush... but oh no, not this guy, he goes flippin' ballistic and kills half of the local police force. they had originally cast kirk douglas as colonel trautman, but he insisted that trautman must double-cross rambo at the end and kill him (per the ending of the original novel) -- only fitting that he should destroy the frankenstein monster that the army created. apparently the producers were not too keen on that idea.

the rocky series is'nt the only sequel ridden film series, bond has more than 20 films. Jaws should've ended with the first one, heck even batman and superman, and back to the futures sequels are not as good as the first one.
the only 2 movies ever to defeat the sequel rule were empire strikes back and godfather II.

The first movie, First Blood, was actually a really good social comentary movie with pretty much no relation to it's action packed sequels. I wouldn't call Rambo a psycho though, he was an anti hero - a character to sypathise with because of the horrors inflicted on him by his own country and the non-caring society that he fought to protect. It's a really f**cking good film. Damn inferior hollywood sequels, damn them all to hell.

P.S I just had a thought - If you look at how good the first Rocky and Rambo movies actually were compared to their generic hoolywood crap sequels, you could argue that if Stallone had fought the temptation to cash in and had left both those movies as standalone classics, his carrer might have taken a different path and today he might br considered a fine actor who makes serious yet entertaining movies, instead of the poor-man's Arnie that he turned into. Let that be a lesson to anyone considering a sequel.

1. Yeah, okay, whatever. Curses don't spread. Especially since the Billygoat is such a horrible scapegoat. Blame your playing; not a goat.

3. Bribery could work.
4. I refuse to acknowledge that name. True Chicagoans do not call it by that bastard name. It is Comiskey Park. Remember that.

I agree First Blood was a very good movie. But cause of its sequels I did not know that until I saw it. Before I say it, I thought it was just another worthless shoot-em-up.

oh i don't think he's unsympathetic. plenty of monsters are sympathetic. frankenstein's monster is sympathetic, king kong is sympathetic, darth vader is sympathetic. norman bates from "psycho" is sympathetic too. even hitler liked dogs & kids, and had a girlfriend.

yes. that's pretty much what i was thinkin'. not only is Rocky a good movie, but so is First Blood. the sequels turned 'em into superheroes because it's easy to market a superhero, but that's clearly not what the original movies were about.

Getting back on the subject "movies which production should be stopped" - I'd like to bring up again one title... even though this choice may be shocking to some of you:

"Indiana Jones 4"

Seeing how Lucas and Spielberg lost their magic with age, I don't want Indy Trilogy to be ruined in the way STAR WARS was ( in this case - by introduction of prequels). I like old Indy flicks too much to witness the same process as in "new Star Wars".

I simply hope that this movie will remain only a rumor posted on certain websites.

...

The problem is that even 10-year old rumors sometimes become reality... DOOM anyone?
I saw the original theatrical release of the Old Trilogy on the big screen and I'm proud of it...
How did I accomplish that (considering my age) is my secret...

Geez, I went off topic for 1 post and I'm getting called up on it. Man. Anyway, yeah, Indy 4, super-bad idea. Personally I'm not convinced it will ever get out of the production stage, and every day Hrrison Ford gets a little older, so we might get lucky. But then they could just use a CG Ford...

They were both Comiskey Park. Then the new Comiskey Park decided to sell out and got themselves a nice big, fat corporate sponsor. It was Comiskey Park for over a decade before it changed names. The new CP opened in 1991 and didn't become The Cell until 2003.
