Things you never noticed before in the films — Page 2

But it's not splicing tape. It's cement.

The only transfers you'd ever see splice tape on are really old films or home films.

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

"Tape like splicing tape? If so, where was the last time YOU saw Star Wars!? Perhaps you mean the adhesive residue from the cement splices needed to cement the negatives together. It's really apparent on scope films since there is barely any space left between frames."

The LD transfers are ripe with these splices. I was taking out at least every other scene change. Tedious, tedious, tedious.

"But it's not splicing tape. It's cement."

The point being, it is there, and it can be quite visible.

JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

No, I've seen them too! They are annoying! I work in a projection booth and I see them all the time there. You have to force yourself to quit staring at the bottom of the screen.

I'm just anal about details sometimes and just wanted to clarify the difference between a tape splice and a hot splice.

Fight Club ruined it for me. I'd noticed them before, but thought (for some ODD reason) that it was just a big clod of dust or something. Don't ask why. Now I know, and can spot slight color issues between reel changes on many movies I see in the theater (Episode III was quite bad at one of our screens here; at the reel change on Mustafar, the planet almost shifted orange after the reel change).

But I've never noticed cigarette burns on any home video product before ... has this happened before? I've just seen them in the theater.

- It took me years to notice Harrison Ford mouthing Carried Fisher's lines onboard the Falcon in ESB. I see it everytime now!

- It always bothered me that Lando hit his head in Jabba's Palace as Chewie was being led to the cell in ROTJ. Surely there was a better take. Unless it was deliberately harking back to the stormtropper bashing his head in ANH.

- Han grabbing Leia's breast in ROTJ was always a favourite. I noticed this back in the 80s. Ahh puberty.

Speaking of boobies, the dancer's right breast suddenly going free range in the tussle with Jabba is always a favourite.

The other thing I had never thought about before, then noticed, was a reaction shot from Hamill, but I don't really want mention here as it really does wreck an important part of the film, and you literally can't unsee it once you notice it.

I'd like to know what this is too.

There is *no* way Star Wars was anywhere near a G rating, with or without the bodies. I think you are confusing SW with ET, where Lucas added the "penis breath" line to get a PG rating, which was automatic for such language.

actually, Lucas admits to this in "Skywalking," the biography written by Tom Pollock. Getting a G rating WAS a worry at the time. Also, Lucas didn't add "penis breath" to E.T. because Lucas didn't direct E.T, Spielberg did. And I don't think the line was added, it was just part of the script from the beginning, left in because Spielberg liked the authenticity of it--it's how middle schoolers talk.

The entire OT has a U rating in the UK (equivalent to G). I can't remember what ET got but it's probably a U as well. The box set of DVDs is a PG because of the bonus material, not the movies themselves.

Here's something I've noticed - when Ben is first telling Luke about what a great pilot his dad was, he leans back and says "And he was a good friend." Or does he? Every time I hear it now, I think he's actually saying " Anni was a good friend." I don't think an actor like Alec Guiness would drop his Ds for no good reason.

You know... there's something more than just a little disturbing about the darkest character in the Star Wars saga being referred to as Anni.

Has everyone seen the reviews at dvdanswers.com? They're pretty good, I hadn't even noticed all of the things mentioned there. But the thing I'm really curious about: the changes made UNTIL '97. Do we have an authority on that?

That's no moon. It's a LaserDisc.
