Info: The strange case of "Split Second"

“Split Second”, a 1992 film with Rutger Hauer, is now out on BD in Germany; finally, it’s possible to have this movie with the right color grading… or not?

Strangely, when it was out on DVD, it had AT LEAST six (yes, six!) version with different color grading (and cropping, too)… but, which is the right one - between those and the new one on BD?

Here you are the six comparison with BD on the left, and on the right:

Dutch (with burnt subtitles):

German (it exists also in 4:3):

What do you think?

Strange indeed. I need to find the LD capture I did, (if I still have it) and see how it compares.

Where were you in '77?

Andrea,

you can't use any german release from DD as a color reference.

The man behind this company is clearly a colorblind, incompetent man.

ALL (and I really mean ALL releases since VHS) have a strange redshift. Also which can be very often found in the releases is a heavy contrast boost.

Give him a decent master and he applies heavy to very heavy (Predatur UE style) DNR, auto-cleaning tools, color boost, redshift, etc.

I will not post his name or company name here, because he finds always the places where he is talked about. Very strange. :)

Are you talking about the DVD or the BD?

According to the german dilettante they will us his master. Maybe the encoding will be better, but I would not have high expectations on that too.

It's often difficult to find out which is the most *right* color grading between two versions, but here we have at least six different ones...

What could be the *less wrong* color grading? (^^,)
