Info & Help: looking for... The original Latin American Spanish dubbings

Good evening all. I’m a Star Wars from Mexico. As we all know, preservation of the original Star Wars films in their unaltered edits has become has become a hot topic these years. At the same time, in Latin America, the original spanish dubs that were in theaters (and seen several times on TV before the SE) have become somewhat of a holy grail for us fans from Mexico.

The 2004 DVDs featured new dubs as the originals could not match with the altered scenes/dialogue. These dubbings aren’t bad at all (as they’re done by the Jesus Barrero studio), but it’s a shame the ones I grew up with have long been replaced by it. The GOUT DVDs themeselves apparently carry the European spanish dubbings too, whereas the R4 versions of that release are only in english.

So, does anyone know of a source (TV, VHS, etc) that can be used to preserve these rarities? It would be a shame if they were lost in time as it has happened to so many goodies of the franchise.

Here are samples of those dubbings:

If one were looking for a high quality source, perhaps Laserdisk? Was the Mexican dub used for all of Latin America?

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

The Spanish (Castilian?) GOUT dubs are definitely preserved, but it's odd they aren't on the R4 DVDs!  The Latin American theatrical Spanish dub, if different from GOUT, I don't know about...

So the Spanish dub on the R1 is Castilian?

"Right now the coffees are doing their final work." (Airi, Masked Rider Den-o episode 1)

Pretty sure, yes.  Even if you don't know the different dialects very well, you could probably just listen for ordenadores vs computadoras to confirm.

I'm just a gringo, but from what I've read, I believe that the Mexican dub (actually done in Los Angeles) was indeed used for all of Latin America.

As for high-quality sources: You'd think that the Latin American Spanish dubs would have been released on video...but you'd be wrong. From what I can gather, all of the pre-SE Latin American video releases were in English with Spanish subtitles. Why, I have no idea.

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the original Spanish rental VHS (from Spain)? There's no "Episode IV" in the crawl on that tape, right?

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

Maybe reaching out in other SW forums (example: http://www.starwarsspanishstuff.info/), otherwise resellers like ebay seem to be the only option.

Here's some pics from a forthcoming TWC073: (not certain if it's a Rental or the 80s Alquiler : La Guerra de las Galaxias)

Subtitles:

(picts of the rest of the subs are in the folder)

well, i guess it's not THAT short of a sample,

but the first reel, just for comparison with

the mono one...

maybe someone can tell if it's the original

dub or not?

This Spanish Print audio does not match the audio from the above mentioned TWC073 80s VHS 'La Guerra de las Galaxias'.  There is the identified Mono mix difference in the sirens, but the dialog is different.

Project Threepio v4 has:

14
00:02:47,834 --> 00:02:49,634
¿Has oído eso?

15
00:02:49,900 --> 00:02:53,101
Han alcanzado al reactor principal.
Nos van a destruir seguro.

16
00:02:53,201 --> 00:02:55,001
¡Qué locura!

Spanish Print Mono sounds like:

¿Has oído eso?

Destruir reactor principal.

Sindolta sero mastofin  (¿sounds like? the words are not being translated by online translators, and I don't know any spanish And I don't know any spanish.)

¡Esto es una locura!

TWC073 80s VHS 'La Guerra de las Galaxias' sounds like:

¿Has oído eso?

Han alcanzado al reactor principal.

Nos van a destruir.

¡Esto es una locura!

Do we have an answer for if the Spanish (country) is different then the Latin American Spanish versions?  and these three don't match an 80s VHS Catalan audio.  (this Catalan sounds like they got a woman for 3po)

The TWC073 80s VHS is the European Spanish / Castillian dub version (this is the one I heard when I was little) but the Spanish Mono Print appears to be the missing Latin American Original dub (it is in a Latin American accent, probably from Mexico?).

The plot thickens...

I wish that I could just wish my feelings away...but I can't.  Wishful wishing can only lead to wishes wished for in futile wishfulness, which is not what I wish to wish for.

What 3PO actually says is:

¿Oiste eso?

Destruyeron el reactor principàl.

¡Sin duda sera nuestro fin!

¡Esto es una locura!

I've studied a bit of spanish at uni, I don't actually speak it, but mostly I have a good ear for these kinda things.

sounds pretty good to me.

however, i forgot about the han shooting greedo

scene, that is in english, spliced into it..

so we will have to replace that part

with an equivalent one

got in contact with someone

that worked on the original spanish

version (c3po), and we should be

getting the small segment that

had 'han shot first' in spanish

to add back to the soundtrack.

good to know..

however, we're not done with it yet!

also, it might have to be re-synched, since

it's not GOUT.

and finally, we have to replace 'han shoots greedo'

scene, because that's in english. we are hoping

to get an original from the voice actor that played

c3p0.
