With the release of Blu-Ray or HD-DVD technology, future Star Wars re-releases will be accompanied by a large amount of behind the scene footage. McCallum said every aspect of the filming process was recorded for future documentaries but could not be included because of the limited amount of space on DVDs.

The HD-DVD format supports 15 gigabytes of space and Blu-Ray supports 25 gigabytes, according to blue-raydisc.com. The current DVD format can hold only 4.7 gigabytes.

It's enough to make me wish Star Wars had never been.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

Red heads ROCK. Blondes do not rock. Nuff said.

While I know Lucasfilm is a business, they could show a wee generosity to the fans that made them a billion dollar company .

No matter if you dont like or do like Lord of the Rings, you have to admit they are good to the fans. (Peter Jackson)

4 different commentaries, extended editions, 2 disk documentaries and now they are releasing the entire FOTR soundtrack in 3 disks (over 3 hours) and a DVD-Audio of the entire soundtrack.

You could even get your name in the credits for a small sum.

Also, PJ has released TONS and TONS of web documentaries for FREE.

More sets to come?

And I ain't buying any of them until the ^@#%^@ original versions of the OT are made available....

but one upsaide when they get released is that Lucas has absolutley no excuse for not including both the originals of all six along with his archival editions plus everything else in the star wars vault. Hell with the blu-ray dvd's he could include every single version of the audio for Star Wars. and Bullshit the sequel trilogy will happen one day lucas wouldn't be able to last to long without milking the starwars cash flow

Yeah, but you must keep in mind that all those formats (Blu-Ray, HD-DVD,...) will be used for high-definition videos. So, the size of a HD movie will be much more heavy! And if all the content is HD, I think that it will not really change the time capacity...

McCallum seems to think that it won't be long before we see the 'tinker'd versions' of the Prequels and he's fighting hard to have the Yoda Dagobah reinserted in it.

cool i want that Dogabah sense put in cuz other wise it makes no sense why yoda just is all the sudden is there lol. and yes with HD discs that are duble layered they hold up to 4 hours of HD video along with 9 hours of bonues not HD space. and with single layers it 2 hours of HD and 4.5 hours of non HD along with it

I thought it was closer to 30 and 50?

Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

^It is basically because dual layer is more common than single layer and will be used like dual layer DVD's are now....but those numbers are single layer and when we can finally burn them that is the sizes we'll have to start with...but thats way the hell down the road (2 years at least)

Hey look, a bear!

Why would he have to fight hard? Isn't Lucas always game for tinkerin', no matter how big or small?
We don't have enough road to get up to 88.

Bah! It needs to stay a deleted scene like it is right now. For once he didn't tinker with the movie for its DVD release, and I'm happy about that. I'm very much satisfied with, "Into exile I must go." We can just leave it at that. Don't need to show every single thing. It's not as though Dagobah is that interesting-looking a place.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

I agree. Do we really need to see him arrive on Dagobah? No. He says he's going into exile, 20 years later he's on Dagobah. That works fine for me.

I think we'll be forced to wait for the six movie boxed set, since lucas is currently still tweaking the prequels.

and since he said we will have 1 3d movie a year until all six are released starting in 2007 we'll have to wait six years that would make the release in 2013. LOL.

of course that does'nt mean we won't get a transitional set for 2007 for the anniversary, it just won't be the final cuts by lucas.

I would love to see more materials, but I wonder how much of it would be prequel trilogy. It seems like they love releasing that, but not much from the OT. Each DVD release got a bonus disc, but the entire official OT on DVD only got one disc. So if they do, I hope that they would get more generous with the ot materials. But maybe it is like someone said once, that if they release too much, it shows Lucas's many contradictions, so much of it will never see the light of day. But I also agree that LOTR was a good example of what to do with a trilogy. Peter Jackson and company has been very generous with materials there, and they released the original theatrial release and the extended editions both. Unlike another trilogy...

I read somewhere that Lucas had asked for more materials from the archive, meaning they were going to be adding more bonus material to future releases.

If GL does tinker with the PT I hope he removes Maul and Grievous, totally pointless characters (apart from selling toys), even worse than Jar Jar. Chris Lee should have been the main protagonist throughout the PT and given more screen time ala Vader in the OT.
