The 2008 'The Clone Wars' animated theatrical movie - a general discussion thread — Page 11

The joke is on people who willingly paid to see Clone Wars only after watching and hating the PT.

What about those of us that didn't pay to see it and still hate it ;) ?

Sooooo, how much money has this film made?

The answer to that question will remain a mystery until the actual budget has been released.  They're saying it only cost $1 million per episode to make.  If the movie is 3 episodes, then it was only $3 million to make.  But how much did it cost to make the film reels, distribute it, and advertise it (what little advertising I saw anyway)?

So it appears negative 1 has access to a bad quality bootleg of the movie, probably an Xvid since the quality is such shit.  Maybe a cam or telesync?

I know you have to wait for the movie in dvd for december in the uk and probably january in the us.

I hate the animation marionette wooden style,  would it have been so bad to just do the same or similar Style as the Genddy Series only with a better budget and render it in 3-D stylized.

I have read some of the novel and it is awful just not the kind of awful as the movie.

Karen Traviss has a thing for the mandalores and clone troopers, but at least she can write.

Something George cannot do even if he was paid to do it.

She even makes the characters appear to be human beings and not video game characters from Lucasarts.

Before you guys get mad at me over that, yeah i know Lucasarts Had Kyle Katarn and Revan but those are not Lucasian pieces of shit and were written by Someone else who loved the old movies.

The dark horse comics that are coming out in september at least are more geared towards an older audience, though based on this movie and the Killian Plunkett cover art is pretty cool.  If they are anything like the republic comics i will enjoy them for what they are.

I cannot believe i actually want to go see this clone wars thing just to see how awful it is, with the possiblity i might actually like it, LOL.  Since i played the force unleashed demo and it was lots of dumb hack and slash fun.

Though the storyline is getting compared to Kotor perhaps it was a ripoff.  We already had redemption stories with Ulic Qel Droma and Revan, The  Exile from Kotor II, Luke from dark empire, Kyle katarn in jedi outcast.  This seems a bit of a rehash.

I think it was a lie that Lucas wrote the game he may have made the mandate that it be set between III and IV and feature vader having a secret apprentice but the writing is still better than anything Pukas gave us in the prequels.

Why did the clone wars movie have to return to the hated land of the prequels when it could have been set after return of the jedi and actually have characters i would care about, or feel engaged by.

Who does not relate to Luke Skywalker the everyman,  Anakin is a selfish and whiny emo fag and an asshole.  You get the fealing he got just what he deserved in Revenge Of the Sith when he gets owned by Obi.

Uh, you might want to take a look at what's out there.  The cam is definitely shit, but the telesync is damn excellent looking.  That doesn't excuse the poor story and writing though.

Oh, look at that.  Third week of release and it's number 11 this weekend.  It didn't even break $30 mil yet.

Pathetic.

The promos for the series began running on tv today.

Is the series going to be 2:35 aspect as well?

Love those factory fresh Y-Wings. ;)

Hmm, that doesn't look too bad for a TV show. I have no desire to purposely go after any new incarnation of Star Wars, but if I saw it on I would probably watch it.

James Arnold Taylor does seem to do a good Obi-Wan Kenobi.  The trailer looked pretty good, but it was so... dark that I could barely see anything.  But it had me pretty impressed until that incessant "Roger, roger" sequence of droids at the end.

I swear my favorite moment of Revenge of the Sith is when Palpatine said that all droid unit must be shut down.  I literally shouted for joy in the theatre I hated those things so bad.  ^_^

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Yeah, everything looked pretty good to me except that and the "That was impressive" bit.  But this actually does look pretty good compared to the movie.

The animation seems to have improved a bit, on yoda at least.

But the voice acting is still 3rd rate and sucks.

Also the dialogue needs a lot of work and so do the scripts if this is going to correct the flaws of the film.

The less inflluence Lucas has on this the better it will be.

I bet you the classic star wars scores are also temp music for the trailer, the series music will be just as bad as the movies.

And yoda hopping around with a Green Lighsaber again.  Lucas just does not learn from his mistakes.

Someone with a critical eye and not a yes man,  Preferably one of George's friends or colleagues should sit down with him and point out all the flaws and weaknesses of the prequels and clone wars movie, and convince him to at least fix them for this show.  So that this show might actually be good.

But People will have the lowest expectations imaginable and excuse it as a kids show.  George Lucas is the king of low expectations cinema.

I can already see the tfn gusher "hey his stuff is entertaining you just need to forget those 3 old films from 1977-1983"

I'm actually sorta excited for the show, that trailer makes the show look fun.

The animation does look smoother- but Sky is right, that's probably only temp music.

Seeing that makes me wish even more that there was an OT cartoon series- they could even give Mark Hamill his old nose back! ;-)

Anyone else think that whoever voices Anakin, pathetically enough, does better than Hayden?

Maybe some ILM animator will do something OT in his spare time, (like remake the Boba Fett cartoon) and run it by George. ;)

That trailer is fantastic. I will definitely be catching The Clone Wars on Cartoon Network every chance I can (Teevo is a great thing... even if I'm not at home, it will be there waiting for me!)

The show just looks FUN. It looks like one of those animated sci-fi fantasy series that I can sit down with my family and watch, laugh together, and enjoy the adventure. I have no hard feelings toward Lucas about it.

And plus, this might be the substitute for the prequels we've been waiting for. No more political mumbo-jumbo, just Clone War adventures that make the allusions to its awesomeness in ANH hold water.

I'm guessing the show will probably work to further destroy any sense of real continuity in the Star Wars universe, but I've totally given up on that issue since Attack of the Clones.

They can fuck with continuity all they want. It's theirs. The OOT is mine, and they aren't touching my disks, so I hope we all have fun with further installments, such as this television series.

Oh yes, I find myself liking Prequel era Anakin for the first time in, well...ever.

Surely the show WILL continue to ravage continuity but hey, It looks like a bit of fun. I'm sure the music is temporary, They have often used previously available music in star wars trailers.

Wow, this thread did a 180.

Between the original music, the Y-Wings, and the IG-88 style battle droids, that trailer was fun to watch. And now that they are not expecting you to pay 10 bucks to see it, I feel this isn't going to be the worse thing that ever happened to SW.

Someone complained about the "that was impressive" part, that part cracked me up, that is what I have always wanted to do to those stupid droids.
