^Ditto.  Why not release the whole thing? :)

EDIT: Having never read through this thread till now, I understand the reasons. I still cannot help but wish for the whole thing. Is there any chance this ever will get a full release, Mr. Neo? Would your source change his mind, given the fact that it was indeed broadcast?

Thanks for sharing what you have so far :)

Does anyone have a set of TV Guide from 1980? You could probably find an air-date then and which TV station had it.

I'm already streching my boundaries for you guys releasing this. If the whole thing ever gets released it will be by the Original owner of this thing (and I know how he feels). And since people tend to pass releases off as their own the watermark stays where it is. I have already confined it to the lower half of the picture and only 30% opacity.Since I'm going out on a limb here this is the best I can do. I truly understand your need to have this complete documentary and I won't have any problem with someone else releasing this, but it won't be me. The Original owner is known to be quite relentless pursuing his supposed rights to the material. I realise this seems all very cloak and dagger, but it is as it is. I know I can't please everyone and I expected the negative comments comments coming towards me, but my main drive is to please with this release. So enjoy it in it's current form, hope for the owner to change his mind and if your not happy with it I can't help you with that.

I would hope most people here appreciate the lengths you've gone to getting even parts of this rare documentary out there for fans to see.

Is the owner at least aware there is a fanbase interested in seeing this properly released?

I hope my comments are seen in the positive light I intended.  I am grateful you've gone out on a limb thus far.  It does sound very cloak and dagger, and I can't help but wonder who this mysterious but relentless benefactor is.  One of the articles linked somewhere earlier in this thread where some French guys get a copy is equally cryptic.

Thanks again for sharing what you have.

I don't understand why it matters that

But please don't get me wrong: I'm incredibly glad that we're getting to see as much as we are.

Do you mean this site?

If anyone has TV Guides from 1980, we can find out when this aired in Canada, and on what TV station. That would make it easier to try and track down a full copy.

Hmm. No chance the site could be editted to add basic playback controls?

Just a question for a newbie.

What is the fuzz all about with this documentary?

Just because it is not available because the owner maintains its copyright very strict and only a bad dutch TV Rip is available?

Or is there more into it? Maybe to critical or s.th.

The guy had access to the filmmakers, cast, crew, while the movie was being made. Not sure how many other ESB documentaries can say that, if any.

The only other official ESB doc, SPFX, concentrated on the special effects.

Well for one thing it is mentioned in Rinzler's making of book.  The documentary now has good company seeing as that the real version of the movie from 1980 is unavailable and out of print and no blu ray exists.

As far as film history goes this is unconscionable.

Does the book say if Lucasfilm has a copy in it's archives?

Nope.  It is just barely given a mention in one of those sidebars in the book.

I doubt a film print exists in the archives but the tape Kurtz had a dupe of probably does.

Wouldn't the original owner be Michael Parbot since it was his documentary? And he's passed away, so in that respect wouldn't the new owner be the Parbot's estate?

Who cares who you got the tape from, the real issue is who owns the copyright and it sounds like Parbot's estate.

But from Neo's original posting in 2007, it came from Gary Kurtz or someone Gary knew if I'm not mistaken.

I think it's a crying shame that this isn't allowed to be released for the fans. Thank you very much for posting what you felt you were allowed to. I understand your predicament. But this shows just how wrong our endless copyright thing is. We don't even have a public domain anymore. We need copyright reform big time. This will sit locked away in some guy's closet forever. What a shame.

I'm the guy who did the review on:

http://www.mintinbox.net/Dossiers/Michel_Parbot

basically the copy I got on DVD was not that good and I decide to work with a freelance guy here in France to enhance it and did some proposals to LFL to have it shown in a wider audience during Celebration Europe 2.

They finally got me a spot and I do hope people would enjoy it. We have it now in HD but from a DVD version, we tried to do our best.

Here is the announcement: http://www.mintinbox.net/Actus/13-06/2806CE2_Parbot
