Let's remember the Jedi never learn Darth Maul's (now Darth Grievous') name in Episode I. So it's not like Obi-Wan would be, "You're Darth MAUL!?!?" Keeping this in mind allows Maul to be referred to as Grievous in Episode I, and Grievous be referred to as Grievous in Episode III without any kind of reveal necessary until his confrontation with Obi-Wan. And dialogue hints would be best dropped in earlier in the film, such as when Anakin and Obi-Wan surround him on the bridge, Grievous can say something like, "This feels familiar, but not this time Kenobi!" as he jumps out the window. A shame he doesn't fight Anakin and Obi-Wan a bit with his double-sided vibroblade; that would be an awesome connection, but I don't think any amount of special effects wizardry an pull that off. The dialogue has to be vauge enough to where Obi-Wan doesn't realize who it is he's fighting until that key moment in the duel, at which point we need a brilliant line to tie it all together. Unfortunately the only thing I can think of at the moment is the atrocious "I have killed your master! Now it is your turn to die young Jedi!" from the Episode I video game.

Just an update on that Anakin/Obi-Wan duel, I put it together a LONG time ago and looking over it, there's a lot I'd like to refine before sharing it with everyone, so it'll be next week before I upload it. Speaking of which, what service do you guys suggest I use for uploading clips?

Well hopefully i shall have my EpIV DVD all wrapped up in a couple of months and then i'm not going to begin work on EPV until after the Definitive Box set comes out later this year (if it even exists) just in case there is any new footage included. So, count me in. I'll help as much as i can. but please don't expect miracles, after all my EP IV is the first time i have ever attempted to do any effects and i have no knowledge of 3D effects programs.

We've come to expect miracles from you, Adywan

Thanks so much for the offer, though- really. And only help as much as you can. Anything you can give is great; I don't want you to feel pushed into it.

But this is great news! I nominate Adywan as resident hero at OT.com

Resident Hero at OT.com? That would be awesome. I was actually takling about nominating a "Forum Member of the Month" with a friend of mine just yesterday. We couldn't decide between Adywan, Jambe or DE.

This is good news, indeed. We ought to be in a position where there are shots for him to work on once his edit is done. Have we determined which film we are working on first?

I vote we move to Episode III next.

YAAAAAY!!!!!!!! Adywan's joining! w00t!!!!!!!111!!1!!!!!! What I've seen of your Star Wars edit is great, adywan! Right now, just having a special effects guy is a good thing, don't worry about the miracles...I think you've inadvertently made some anyway. As Trooperman said, don't burn yourself out. Do what you can, and no more. It'll be great whatever you can do. Welcome!

I must admit, I am getting pretty excited for Episode III. It does seem like we're jumping around, though. I don't know how organized we want to make these releases, but as it is we're already basically starting with Episode II. There are also some things that need to be established for Episode I, like Nute and other such things. We could do Episode III next, but we at least need to get things planned out so we don't edit ourselves into a corner on Episode I. Honestly, the same could be said for Episode I. I'm game, whatever is decided, but these are some things to keep in mind.

Yeah, it's tough. Fortunately, the dubbing is completely open there, since Grievous doesn't have a mouth to worry about. I think we were planning to dub Maul and Grievous, so that shouldn't be a problem. Another thing to consider is Obi-Wan's reaction. Something to consider for TPM is making it more clear that Obi-Wan is teetering on the Dark Side in his rage. I don't know if this is possible, but the whole Maul thing could've been a real opportunity to see Obi-Wan face the Dark Side and come away from it. It's kind of there in TPM, but it isn't definitely purposeful. I honestly don't know how Obi-Wan should react in ROTS. It seems like that DS issue would have been dealt with in TPM, but as it is, it's kind of open for us to try what we want to with it, as long as Grievous is under discussion.

That's fine. It seems like most people here use RapidShare, although it's annoying that if you download for free, you sometimes have to wait for hours before you can download it. YouSendIt is another possibility. I've used that before.

You know I have a YouSendIt account, but I've only used it to download. I was looking at the uploading parts and I was a bit confused; it seems as if I have to send it to someone's email. I'm sure there's just something really obvious that I'm overlooking, but could someone shed some light on it for me?
Thanks.

What's the plan for ROTJ?
My suggestions:
Dump Amani
Dump Jedi Rocks(replace it with custom Lapti Nek)
Place in reminders of Jabba's carrer with some pictures and recorded Forces of Corruption
Let Boba live
Show Fortuna die
Enhance Rancor
Repaint sabers
Hint at EU events
Dump unneeded Ewoks
Make custom Anakin spirit (a Hayden lookalike combined with Hayden)
You dig?

Here's another one of my wacky ideas: Make Leia's identity as Luke's sister ambiguous.

This involves removing the following:
-naming the babies in ROTS
-talking about the babies' fates aboard the Tantive IV in ROTS
-dropping off the babies in ROTS
-the "last hope" "no, there is another" exchange in ESB
-Obi Wan naming Leia as Luke's sister in ROTJ
-Luke mentioning to Leia in ROTJ that she's his sister (he will still mention to her that he has a sister, just not that it's her)

Then we get to the end of ROTJ, where Leia kisses Han. Now this is the tricky bit. There are two ways you can go with this:

1) Leia is NOT Luke's sister - This scene needs to be tweaked in a way that still allows Han and Leia to have some kind of resolution. This has the advantage of leaving the identity ambiguous. I personally like a few loose ends in my Star Wars movies.
2) Leia IS Luke's sister - This scene stands as it is, and it now becomes a revelation scene. This is not as satisfying as option 1, but the viewer at least gets to think back and put all the pieces together for him/herself. And the viewer gets to share in Han's WTF expression.

Discuss!

I have toyed around with my own edit of Sith a bit. Here are some ideas I was at one point looking into doing before I got sidetracked over a year ago.

I wanted Obi-Wan to believe Anakin was dead, it seemed very wrong for him to just leave him there to die. If he could be saved it would have made sense for Obi-Wan to have saved him and brought him back to the ship. In his mostly limbless state he wouldn't have been much of a threat. Just seems like the thing to do for somebody you consider a brother. If there was a way to edit it so that as Obi-Wan stares in horror he sees Anakin "die", then turns away in disgust and grief. There is a shot of Anakin's robotic arms moving. I found fading the screen on this gave it the hint that he lives, without giving away the farm away with the Frankenvader scene. Of course this would also require a bit of minor editing to remove any lines of Palps calling Anakin "Lord Vader" in any of the scenes before the battle of the heros.

It would be nice if the film could be vague where Padme has the babies. If there was a way to show her having Luke, then ending the scene and not killing her off, that would be great, but really hard. All the end material of the film has to do with the creation of Vader and the birth and distribution of the twins. Padme living and Anakin's fate being unknown would mean no funeral scene, no Lars scene, and no Star Destroyer scene. It will be hard to keep from making the movie seem cut short. Perhaps we could show Luke's birth, then Padme dying, then have Obi and Yoda talk about needing to hide the baby and showing Obi-Wan wisely taking him to live with the Lars family while keeping the name Skywalker, binary sunset, the end.

Just what I had been working on doing with my edit. If this could be done, and some people here have done some impressive work before, so I think it might be possible, then this would somewhat preserve the surprise of "I am your father" (I really think this is about the best we could do on this front) and it would completely preserve the twins surprise. There are still a lot of kinks, like the pupil named Vader who killed Anakin that would need working out, but since this is a saga edit that is easily enough fixed with some editing in ep 4.

Obi-wan could have left Anakin for already dead, while he was still at least sufficiently alive to be put on the machines...?

Replace Amani with a Munn or a Nemodian
Use stop-motion and extra footage shot by the members and GoodMusician's Lapti Nek pack
Show Boba fly out of the Sarlacc after it burps
Let Fortuna fall victim to Luke's electric judgement
Give the Rancor more facial expression
Do what Adywan did to the sabers
Remove Ewok shots mentioned in the Master Skywalker forum
Show Jabba mention Tyber Zann, have Piet mention Thrawn as backup in the battle
and if there are any people who look like Hayden in Episode 3, film them doing Shaw-esque motions.
Search 0.83 MS edition in the forum and some of those changes will be in my edit.

Some interesting ideas, there. I think there was talk of integrating footage from the Ewok movies to the Battle of Endor.

However, I am totally against any form of having Hayden as the Anakin ghost. Say what you will about "looking how you want to," it doesn't make any sense, because Luke wouldn't--shouldn't--recognize Hayden. Shaw is the only form of Anakin he saw, and if only for that reason, Anakin would appear as he did just before he died. I say go with Shaw as the ghost.

i totally agree that Hayden shouldn't be in ROTJ. It just doesn't make any sense to me. Luke wouldn't have the slightest idea who the hell he was and if suddenly Anakin becomes young then why doesn't Obi-Wan? The whole " he returns to the state when he was on the good side" just doesn't wash with me. If that was the case then he would still be an old man because he was saved before he died and turned from the dark side. If anything then they should have added Anakins costume from the prequels because he never wears the jedi robes like Obi-Wans (Oh my god, i just went into George mode then. ) .

Shaw needs to return as he was in '83

i also don't like the idea of adding in ties to the EU either. Thats one side of Star wars that , even though it kept Star Wars alive during the quiet years, just just doesn't belong in the movies.

I still don't get why all of the Jedis in Ep3 are dressed in Obiwan style desert gear? When Luke went all jedi he went for the black bondage outfit which I assumed was the Jedi uniform, and yeah, Luke would be WTFAY!? when he sees Hayden...
Author

OK, I'll make a version with Shaw. I happen to like them both. Hayden for Episode 1-6 viewing ans Shaw for Episode 4-6.
I don't exactly like the EU, but the Thrawn trilogy is the closest thing we have to a sequel trilogy.
Only a Jedi Master would wear Obi-Wan's robes, and when Anakin destroyed Palpy, he became a Jedi Master.
It would be good for Boba to live.

exactly Ady, If anything it should be Shaw in Black / Brown Jedi robes - that's an edit that would actually FIT continuity between films. I'd even be happy to see Anakin in hologram form at the end still burned and scarred. Really he shouldn't appear at all - How could he simply join with the force if it took Yoda and Obi many years of training? I guess for any sort of closure He [Ani] really should have met up with the essence of QG Jinn - The guy who actually figured it out!

Hayden ther was a good concept, yet poorly executed. So a HC lookalike and HC might work.
