The definitive list: changes you can and can't stand... — Page 2

I hated the scream, too. But several months later, when I saw Revenge of the Sith and realized it was the same sound as that annoying idiotic lizard that Obi-Wan rode, I felt a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach realizing that it was another pathetic attempt to tie the trilogies together.

There is no lingerie in space…

C3PX said: Gaffer is like that hot girl in high school that you think you have a chance with even though she is way out of your league because she is sweet and not a stuck up bitch who pretends you don’t exist… then one day you spot her making out with some skinny twerp, only on second glance you realize it is the goth girl who always sits in the back of class; at that moment it dawns on you why she is never seen hanging off the arm of any of the jocks… and you realize, damn, she really is unobtainable after all. Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

One of the most pointless alterations in cinema history!

Of all the alterations that were made to the original movies I find the ones that try to shoehorn anything remotely Prequel related into the original films to be particularly offensive, and certainly the most jarring. As if all the other digital 'enhancements' weren't bad enough, these are the changes that really do pull me out of the OT experience and back into Special Edition and PT reality! The stuff nightmares are made of!

The hologramatic emperor in ESB with really bad PT make-up job, Temuera Morrison as the voice of Boba Fett, and the jewel in the crown of digital contamination Hayden as Anakin force ghost serve as just a few examples. (When images of the ROTJ Anakin/Hayden scene first appeared I believed them to be merely a bit of fan derived Photoshop fun. How wrong could I have been! :/)

It is strange though how I am somehow able to tolerate some of the more scenic additions such as the Falcon escaping from Mos Eisley, x-wings preparing for battle, exterior Bespin scenes etc, though these have to be watched in isolation from the rest of the movie. I guess these scenes really just expand on how I had imagined them to be be anyway, and don't really alter my perceptions of the Star Wars universe or characters.

I also enjoyed some of the scenic additions. Bespin was quite a limited creation in the original movie and benefitted a lot from the capabilities of CGI. Mos Eisley, good idea but too much distracting animation.

Hated Hayden - not just because it's a big jarring change, but because he has this really creepy smirk on his face! That is weird. (Like him in Life as a House and Shattered Glass, though I think he might have a limited range).

I also liked the ROTJ new ending music. It was sadder and made the ending more bittersweet, which is fitting with the scene of Luke saying goodbye to his father - Yub Nub (really the name? good lord) is just too cheesey and silly.

Every so often I get taken back to my childhood when Star Wars was an amazing dream, and then I get angry that Mr Lucas and a bunch of cheesey CGI animators are fooling round with it in a clumsy fashion.

Darth Lucas: I am altering the trilogy. Pray I don't alter it further.

I could live with any amount of digital recompositing to eliminate matte lines/match contrast ratios, as long as only the original elements were used.

The only changes I could go with would be the "endless" corridor on DS1 and the tractor beam lettering. In this vein, Darth Editous's DS1 schematic should be incorporated. McDiarmid in ESB could've been good in principle.
