TV's Frink has a pretty reasonable alternate hypothesis.
Much like my statements on the terribleness of Ghostbusters 2, it's neither opinion nor hypothesis. It's a scientifically verifiable fact.

See, you say you are not insulting, but every word is arrogant, every comment absolutely correct. Here, let me chat for a moment. Yes, grammatically, both words you underlined are technically imperative in nature. That does not make them demands. He asked kindly, with pleases in both cases and a thank you to follow. I spoke to a doctor earlier this shift and asked for an order of medication. I don't remember the exact phrasing, but if I said, "Please give me something else for this woman's nausea. What I'm giving doesn't seem to help." Did I order the doctor around? Would he be offended that I, the nurse, commanded him to do something? Nope, because in spite of it's grammatical construction, I did not actually demand anything of him.
I am very pleased that you admit that it was grammatically a command.
You gave a bad analogy though. A very good analogy would be if you said to the doctor "Please don't treat this patient, you can treat the one over there instead". This one has all the elements: (1) asking doctor not to do his function (analogy to thread's function), (2) asking him to move to some other patient (analogy to moving to the other thread), and (3) making commands when you are in no position to do so.

How many threads do we need for these same pointless arguments?
As many threads as your mom needs in her underwear.
ZERO, BECAUSE SHE DOESN'T WEAR ANY. BOO-YA!!!!

your demand that you have the right to do whatever you want in an unmoderated forum
Let's be fair here, shall we? I did no such thing. Unless using the thread's primary function qualifies as "doing whatever one wants"?
I only reminded a particular person that he cannot expect people not to utilise thread's primary function. I was even so considerate that I actually respected his unwarranted demands and did not debate or comment the content itself.

And here I always thought a threads primary function was whatever the original post dictated. Silly me!

The original post dictates the topic, not function. I am glad I could educate you.

Completely wrong.

Hey! It is not wrong to educate people.

It's completely wrong to give them an incorrect premise and call it "education."

Congrats to everyone who has helped to prove my "Off-Topic = Restroom" thesis, by the way. You're all doing a brilliant job, so keep up the good work.
Maybe its a restroom, but its OUR restroom. You don't like it, go to the restaurant on the 2nd floor.
If he doesn't like it, it's only because his mom's numbers (both phone and measurements) are scrawled all over the walls.

Shoe on the other foot ey imperial? Sooooooooo ..... if you didn't do that, Warbler didn't command or demand anything.
Problem solved.
I love irony.
I see my point has completely gone over various heads. Excellent, most excellent. By all means, continue to spew the diarrhea everywhere; I'll just sit back and watch.
Oh, and Fink? The only reason my mom doesn't wear underwear is because she makes your mom wear it on her head. You thought I wouldn't find out . . . but I did.
whatever, I just don't understand what you are doing here if you don't like it here.

Yeah and I'm starting to take back my earlier criticism when you first made that remark. But hey, restrooms are a great place to get high.
Moms!

I like it fine, man. The endless bickering just gets tiresome real fast, especially when it spreads out into lots of threads because people can't seem to restrain themselves. These issues in the world are not going to be 'solved' by anyone here getting up on their high horse about them.
It's kind of a train wreck at this point, and train wrecks after all are hard to look away from . . .
Yeah they are kind of like bright pink houses in that regard.

Please believe me, I had no idea this was all going to happen. All I wanted to do was celebrate Holy Week by posting pictures of the events of Holy Week. I didn't want them surrounded by debate, so I created a thread specifically for the pics. People then complained about not being able to debate in that thread, so I created this one to accommodate them.
No these issues won't be solved by anyone here, but a forum is for talking so we talk. We are not going to solve anything, but we can come to a better understanding of the other side. That has happened with me on many issues especially in the politics thread. I have a much better understanding of conservatives because of discussions with them in the politics thread than I did before I came to the forum.
It may or may not be a train wreck, but it won't last forever. Eventually it will stop and the off topic section will return to normal.

I don't see how your analogy, which only has one additional criterium, is so much better than mine. The crucial aspect was that you claim an inappropriate order was made. I pointed out that if I had made what was technically a sentence with a command in it, but I had done it in the same way Warbler had, it would not have been demanding in nature. I could have added to my example about the nausea, "And please don't order Reglan, she'd like Phenergan instead," and thus it would meet all the criteria you insist upon and still not be rude. Conversations do in fact go that way with mutual respect between the physician and nurse, and yet commanding sentence structure still exists. My ultimate point is that such structure does not equal a demand, but is still essentially a polite request, and the fact that you continue to cling to technicalities in order to justify what in fact was rudeness on your part, all the while ignoring more substantial arguments against your actions (and this has been going on for the past several topics we've debated), proves that you are an idiot. Sorry.

Yes, no one got such sophisticated humor. Or maybe we got it and are just ignoring you because we still feel like talking about it. Your pick.
Ender, I give up.
Advice: don't put an apology right after an insult. It looks lame. :p

I propose a third option: you're all being Diet Racists against me specifically*, and I must therefore begin a lengthy campaign of complaint about the persecution I have unjustly endured. I won't ever let it go and it will probably descend into name-calling and resentment that can't be traced back to its original source.
A fourth option is that I don't mean a word I say, and don't have any ill-will towards anybody.
The fifth (and most likely) option is that I may not even exist in any form, other than as a projection of the subconscious minds of everyone here. Which would seem to indicate that the subconscious really just needs to take a big dump, I guess. ;)
(*since of course I count as being my own race. hairless hens are much more common, you know.)
