Deus Ex Machina...see full circle back to Donnie Darko! Now we just have to incorporate "cellar door".
16 years I wait and this is what I get???

"And of course, added the "chosen one" cliche to the whole thing, also providing room for a huge Deus Ex Machina whenever GL felt lost in his story."

Well, it simply added another reason for an ending that already existed.

i thought it added more depth to the story. maybe it made the characters a little more fleshed out but the story was deeper.

why doesn't that suprise me? *sigh*

to me , while technically its not continuity problem, I just find it highly improbably that noone, not Vader, not Obiwan, not Palp, not Yoda, no one in the OT uses the words "Chosen One" or "Prophecy". It just bothers me when in Lucas invents stuff that wasn't there to begin with. The character of Quigon is another example.

your right its does add that, but you never know maybe lucas will add thing like this in his 2007 versions. we already know he doing a bunch of continuity shoots maybe he will add some of them.

And what a bunch of crap that will be.
"Drink the Kool-Aid. Wear blinders. Cover your ears. Because that's the only way you can totally enjoy Revenge of the Sith -- the final and most futile attempt from skilled producer, clumsy director and tin-eared writer George Lucas to create a prequel trilogy to match the myth-making spirit of the original Star Wars saga he unleashed twenty-eight years ago. Fan boys, of course, have convinced themselves otherwise. So have several critics, if you go by early reviews."

That was uncalled for. He attacked the considered changes, not you. He has the right to think more changes to the OT will be crap. I predict this as well. I wish Lucas would just leave the OT alone. I ask again why change the OT to fit the PT instead of making the PT so it fit with the OT in the first place?

Not in so many words, but...

Quote

EMPEROR: He could destroy us.

VADER: He's just a boy. Obi-Wan can no longer help him.

EMPEROR: The Force is strong with him. The son of Skywalker must not become a Jedi.
VADER: Luke. You can destroy the Emperor. He has foreseen this. It is your destiny.
OBI-WAN: To protect you both from the Emperor, you were hidden from your father when you were born. The Emperor knew, as I did, if Anakin were to have any offspring, they would be a threat to him.

of all the changes that lucas made to the OT how many of them were actually bad. only a couple of them; the han thing and the ewok music. the cleaning up and the extra CGI was great. and if you think adding scenes like showing the senate being dissolved are a bad idea then i dont know what to say.

and whats crap is i doubt if he knows what kind of changes lucas will make even i dont know, the rumored scenes seem to really make sense. so calling them crap is an ingnorant statement.

as for your statments aobut changing things in the PT what do you want him to change, obvisously he made those after he made the OT and so everything that he wanted to incorperated in them that had to do with the OT is there, things like the DS in ATOC. the OT on the other hand was made before he knew exactly what the PT was, inorder to make a fully balanced saga things will need to be changed in the OT simplely because they were not made witht he PT in mind where as the PT was made with the OT in mind. you never know too in the 2007 release he might add a bunch of stuff to the PT to improve the continueity.

why is that a bad idea

tell me what is bad about doing that. nothing seems bad to me thats why i think its a promising idea. your right i shouldnt call is good yet cause i havent seen it.

if he had heard of an idea thats bad and he was making his call off that then it would be a different story. but he is call it blind.

I'm with Shim here. Untill I saw Sith I was like "No, no, no, no" But Sith has totally changed my view on the PT, so any changes to the OT, especially ANH (which IMO does need a few extra shots of continuaty's sake) is welcome. (sorry about the spelling...I'm hungover again)
Of course I want the originals on DVD, but I can live with my VHS or a DVD rip for now.
But I do still believe that in 2007 or whenever the super editions come out, Lucas will have both versions in one box set. Like the Alien box set.

Interesting that it was HotRod who was able to make the same point with a lot less venom.

You missed my point, I don't want him to change the PT, I wanted him to make it right in the first place. Lets say you had a round hole(the OT) and were making a peg(The PT) to go into it. Would you make a round peg or would you make a square peg and then reshape the hole into a square shape? I wanted Lucas to make a round peg. Instead he makes a square peg and then reshapes the hole into a bigger square so that although the peg goes into it, its very loose in the hole and wobbles alot. Why not just make a round peg for a roung hole?

ok i get what your say, but sometimes its very hard to do, and also if along the way he thought, the story will fit alot better if i do this then change that later.

the best way i can put it is, if you have ever edited an essay while you were going through it, or even after the first draft, sometime you'll change things in the first para like add a point and change something later jsut so that it balances out. i think that the situation with the PT and OT is much like that.
Author
Time
Yeah but you know what? I never had a teacher that would let me reedit an essay that I had already handed in and then be graded on the new draft. Once its handed in, its handed in. Just like the OT he might like to make changes but its too late, they have already been shown in theaters, tv, and on vhs. When a movie has been shown in theaters and tv and on VHS for 20 years, I think of it as "handed it", and once its handed in, its handed in.

lol actually i have had a couple teachers let me do that b4. but with lucas its not really fair to take m example that much out of context.
