I've found another X0 for sale on Ebay with a BuyItNow price of $2800.00 plus $400.00 shipping. The link is
here.

Wish I had the money.

Not the extras. It wasn't our player, so we didn't want to ask for too much. It would be nice, but the extras really don't warrant that level of capture.

It was only made in Japan and used to go for $7000.00 U.S. and about $700.00 for shipping to the U.S.. The good news is that it appears the price is dropping on them. They don't pop up often, but I rarely see them go for over $3000.00. Hopefully, they will drop to the $1000.00 to $1500.00 mark. I may spring for one myself at that price depending on how my job goes.

A few points of clarification:

1. The X0 was not only "only made in Japan," it was only ever sold in Japan.
2. The MSRP was about ¥800,000. Maybe a bit more.
2. That $700 for shipping to the US wasn't a factory option or anything; this player was just not available outside of Japan except through grey market resellers.

You would probably never see a good condition HLD-X0 go for 1000$. The reason is simpel, as the years go by, less and less HLD-X0 will be in good condition = the price stay's up. Just like a HLD-X9 today, used, are going most of the time, for more than it cost new. Same as with old cars, as long and people will have them in good shape, they will not lose in value.

The HLD-X0 on ebay now is from the cheapest source you can get. I got my second X0 from him. But I also know of mint HLD-X0 going for 6000$

zion, I mail you some day.

For context: It took a few months for me to correct the first third of ANH frame by frame (in between work and family.) Since there is a new transfer, this process has started over.

I know it seems like not much is going on, but there is tremendous effort going into this transfer: the first of which involves making the cleanest masters that we can before even thinking about making the eventual DVD. This takes time, folks.

Work?

Family???

Bah ... we're expecting you to chuck both of those to the wind so you can make a DVD.

On another note, I've just gotten 300GB and 400GB hard drives to replace my defunct 150GB and 200GB hard drives. Now my second computer will be back up, and I'll have a little more elbow room for this and my other various projects.

MeBeJedi,
I just got through reading Mark2000's thread on the ANH 35mm idea and your replies.

Is there a possibility that a film transfer would actually be superior in quality to any of your LD transfers, and if so, is the X0 team considering it for the X0 project (assuming reel 1 can be found), or would this more likely be a seperate project (if you do a transfer)?

Seperate but related issue:
I wanted to go out on a limb and offer a friendly suggestion, just in case this appeals to zion, yourself, and the other project members. IIRC I have heard comments about how ANH will require more restoration than ESB or ROTJ. Have you guys considered doing ESB and ROTJ before ANH?
The reason I ask this (apart from the possibilty of the 35mm source, if it's worthy of consideration) is I think it's reasonable to assume that you guys will make some discoveries as you go along leading to better results. If ANH can benefit the most from restoration, I think it would be great if it comes last in the restoration process and benefits the most from what you learn restoring the other 2 films.
Of course if you're already "past the point of no return" with the ANH restoration I could completely understand why you wouldn't want to start over again.
I also want to be honest and say that ANH is my fav of the 3, no hidden ulterior motives here, but maybe you guys agree with the practical advantages of doing it last regardless of which film you like best.

This is all just food for thought, and it should go without saying that I know all of the films will be spectacular after your efforts. My suggestion might sound picky, but given the meticulous efforts you guys are already making I got up the nerve to ask

I would go so far as to say this - it would be superior to the official DVD transfers. In my mind, anyways....

As a long-suffering fan, I hope that all thoughts of film are shelved for a while, at least until the readily-achievable LD transfer is done. I sorta look at any kind of film-based project as being a little like a trip to Mars: sure, all the pieces are theoretically possible, and anyone with any imagination can see it might eventually even be practical, but there are an awful lot of other things to take care of closer to home first before such a gargantuan task is taken on.

Personally, I'd rather have a definitive LD transfer in my hand before I start hearing rumblings from the XØ Project about anything film -- but once the "one small step for man" moonshot-level LD transfer is done, I can't think of any better crew to tackle the next "giant leap for mankind." (And even if it never fully happened, it would be fun to read about the process.)
