Not to mention, I don’t like Axl Rose’s voice. I think it is grating.

When’s something gonna happen?

I used to dislike Axl Rose’s voice. Then I discovered modern mainstream hip-hop. That put things in perspective.

Slapstick isn’t funny. It’s entertaining though.

Romance is stupid and unnecessary in movies unless it is crucial to the plot. (Is this unpopular?)

I don’t like most musical films. They’re just too cheerful and romanticises a historic era sometimes, and probably most appeal to middle aged mums. However, there are some musicals I do genuinely do enjoy.

Fan-service is god-awful bollocks and ruins the aesthetic of a film other than to please horny teenagers. That ruins a lot of anime. Please, young-adult oriented anime where the female characters aren’t sexualised and look like a bug-eyed Disney character please?

I’m bloody tired of Every. Single. Fantasy. Story… taking place in a world modelled after medieval Europe. Like, how about a world modelled after imperial Asia, or… ancient Mesopotamia. Or, god forbid, pre-contact America?! Just stop trying to be like Tolkien.

What the flying fuck are the good plot advancing reasons for sex scenes other than to please the bloody audience?!

I feel like if they’re gonna have sex scenes they should at least commit and make it full-on porn. The way I see it, that way they would serve as the perfect culmination of a compelling relationship.

I have this idea of having a shared fictional universe in which I hire actual pornographic actresses who would feature in the mainline continuity as supporting characters and later have a porn distributor following on their sexual adventures. It would render a porn parody unnecessary.

There are two movie directors whose flicks are seemingly loved by everyone but which I personally find to be just OK.

Guillermo del Toro: I’ve seen most of his movies and so far I’ve only been mildly entertained, in fact the only one I have truly enjoyed is the one he has publicly disowned: Mimic.

Denis Villeneuve: His movies are no doubt very well made, but I feel like something is missing. In terms of set design and colour timing his movies look so sterile and lifeless.

Irvin Kershner is overrated for his work on ESB and is not the reason that movie is so good.

The Thirteenth Doctor is actually great, even if her episodes aren’t. I don’t get why people think she needs a dark undercurrent. Can’t the Doctor just be happy?

The Hobbit Trilogy is underrated and on par with the LOTR Trilogy. Peter Jackson & co did a fantastic job of telling the core story of the Hobbit, while also introducing so many new elements. Showing us the White Council and Gandalf’s Investigation of Dol Guldur mentioned in the Return of the King Appendices was a great use of those materials along with a great way to tie the story of The Hobbit closer to LOTR. Jackson & co also did a fantastic job of distinguishing all 13 dwarves from each other and making them unique, something that the novel struggled with.

Also An Unexpected Journey is better than The Two Towers.

Spider-Man Unlimited isn’t the terrible show many fans make it out to be. The premise is bonkers, but all things considered, it’s a watchable cartoon.

I actually found it decently entertaining. Kind of bummed it was killed so young.

Though there’re definitely exceptions (Gerry Rafferty comes immediately to mind), most '60s & '70s rock disinterests me. Not saying it’s bad; it just doesn’t stir my soul.

Perhaps I’d like those movies more if they weren’t disguised as Batman films.

To thumb my nose at modern critics:

The Tod Browning directed 1931 English language Dracula is better than the overly praised Spanish language version.
In every way save one which I will mention below.

The Spanish version is miraculously still with us and amazing to see for the differences. Yes the camerawork is more inventive and staged more impressively-but they had the benefit of a scorned producer who wanted to best the regular production and the ability to screen the rushes every day of what the English language crew had shot. What the English language version has is atmosphere and potency even though no matter what the story is based around the stage play story and not the original novel.

The benefit the Spanish version has is that it didn’t have to face the heavy censoring board and maintains scenes cut from the English language version. Outside of the wonderfully vivid Lupita Tovar and the film’s version of Renfield the rest of the cast is really no very good and it becomes a chore to sit through this version most of the time because it doesn’t have the spark of the English version. And Dracula in the Spanish version is pretty terrible as his appearance induces laughter no matter how hard I fight it.

The worst thing about the Nolan Batman movies is Batman.
The world here is so realistic that when he shows up in that costume it makes me laugh out loud.

Nolan doesn’t seem to like Batman and the films really have a different sort of character at the center.

Yep.

TDKR is by far and large the worst Batman film ever made in terms of characterization alone. One thing you can say about Batman and Robin is that it does have Batman’s character nailed down properly.

Now that you’re bringing up Batman and Robin, here’s my unpopular opinion regarding said movie: I have no issues whatsoever with Batman and Robin. In fact Batman Returns and Batman Forever are my favourites out of the Burton/Schumacher era.

Finally, even as a little kid I was never sold on Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne/Batman.

I take it this’s a typo and you meant “Batman and Robin”.

What I meant to say is that their earlier songs are mostly trash. I hate most love songs with a passion. They have as much depth as a baby pool.

Also, early ‘60s songs are shit.

We Didn’t Start The Fire is fucking GARBAGE and Billy Joel’s worst song. Lots of good ‘70s artists got trash in the ‘80s! Uptown Girl is also so damn puerile. I hate that good awful corny voice Joel does in that song. And my god, Movin’ Out! The way Joel sings in that song makes me want to stuff a handkerchief in my ears! 🖕😤🖕

When’s something gonna happen?
