I find the majority of films in the MCU to be overrated. They are released far too quickly and focus way too much on CGI action that ends up looking fake. Nothing can replace practical effects for me.
Not sure if this has been created yet, but might as well bring it to life anyway…
This is the ultimate thread for all of the film, TV, music, art, books, comics, games, & technology opinions you guys have that you feel nobody else shares!
RULES!
I’ll start:
I actually kind of love all the absurd, physics defying, gravity-bending action sequences in the Hobbit trilogy. I know everybody hates them, but I don’t care, I get a serious kick out of those scenes. I think it’s because they make me feel like a kid again, when I thought fighting like that was possible! I’t probably because I don’t hold the franchise as close to my heart as I do Star Wars.

Alien3-
Alien3-
- It’s a decent movie.
- The theatrical cut is much better than the newer workprint cut.
Lol. I’ve still only seen the first two Alien films, but I’ll take your word for it and check it out!

+1
The original Iron Man and Doctor Strange are the only MCU movies I thought were actually good, strangely enough. Hopefully Sam Raimi can give us an even better sequel to that one.

SONIC RACES THROUGH THE GREEN FIELDS.
THE SUN RACES THROUGH A BLUE SKY FILLED WITH WHITE CLOUDS.
THE WAYS OF HIS HEART ARE MUCH LIKE THE SUN. SONIC RUNS AND RESTS; THE SUN RISES AND SETS.
DON’T GIVE UP ON THE SUN. DON’T MAKE THE SUN LAUGH AT YOU.

Ok, but please remember that both of those points are extremely unpopular opinions.

This. Plus most of them aren’t real films; they’re feature-length trailers for the next Avengers movie in the pipeline. I drop-kicked that pile of hot garbage once its true nature became obvious.

Want another extremely unpopular Alien opinion? I don’t like Aliens. Alien is a masterpiece, and Aliens is just dumb. More is not better.
And for another Cameron related one, T2 isn’t nearly as good as T1. Similar to how Aliens misses out on what’s special about Alien, T2 misses out on what’s special about The Terminator.
And on anther sequel related note, Toy Story 2 isn’t that great, and Toy Story is much better when viewed without sequels. Toy Story 3 is garbage, too. In fact, Pixar in general has been garbage since 2009. The magic of Pixar died sometime during Up. I can’t decide whether it died after the opening sequence, or when balloons lifted the house, or when dogs talked, or at the cliche reveal of the childhood hero being the villain. It was probably one of those.
Now a positive unpopular opinion for a change, Nacho Libre is a great movie.

I wouldn’t say “extremely unpopular”. I know lots of people who feel that way. Maybe more than not.
Most of the times I’ve brought that up, people act like I’m crazy.

I’ve seen Aliens twice. I wasn’t wowed either time. So the xenomorphs are just giant dumb bugs ruled by a gianter less dumb bug. As unimaginative/reductive a concept as the Borg Queen.
And on that note: Star Trek: First Contact is the best TNG movie — which isn’t saying much. The continuity is ass, both with TOS and TNG proper. You have to ignore every Borg-centric TNG episode post-TBOBW to make Picard’s characterization sensible to any degree, which is lazy storytelling, plain & simple.
I don’t think many people would disagree that First Contact is the best TNG movie. It’s not like it has a lot of competition.
You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.
Episode 9 Rewrite, The Starlight Project (Released!) and ANH Technicolor Project (Released!)
The Big Bang Theory is also severely overrated.
I added a list of rules to my first post.
Also,
The original Spiderman trilogy, despite being intentionally campy, are the only superhero movies I can even slighty take seriously. Almost every other one makes me cringe beyond belief.
Edit:
Forgot about the Dark Knight trilogy! I like those too!
The Big Bang Theory is also severely overrated.
It’s one of the most un-funny shows I’ve ever seen. I really can’t stand it.
That awful theme song, too… *shudders
I think Indiana Jones movies are overrated. They’re fine and fun to watch once in awhile but I wouldn’t spend any money to own them.
Same goes to Alien films.
I don’t remember there being a good comedy film in this millennium and that could actually compete with something from the 80s or 90s.
I don’t like any Marvel movie, MCU, Spider-man or whatever.
The first The Fast and the Furious movie is the best of that series.
And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.
Stargate SG-1 isn’t better than the original film. They’re equally flawed in almost diametrically opposite ways. That’s not to say they aren’t good in their own way or watchable, 'cause they are.
Agreed on Aliens, and don’t understand why everyone regards it as some sort of high art.
On that note here’s my unpopular opinion: James Cameron’s movies are amongst the most overrated movies of all time, T1 and T2 are his only worthwhile films. Titanic is a cheesy soap opera that has aged poorly, and I will forever remain baffled by the overwhelmingly positive reception Avatar got ten years ago, with people reacting as if they’d never seen a movie before in their lives, a movie that has pretty much been forgotten. The weirdest thing is that there are people who rank James Cameron amongst the greatest filmmakers of all time.
On the flip side I am a huge Michael Bay fan who has enjoyed each and every one of his movies, even the Transformers movies all the way to The Last Knight, and it’s not even as a guilty pleasure, I genuinely enjoy Michael Bay’s movies. What has always left me scratching my head is the near constant vitriol aimed at Bay from movie critics and fans alike.
The Matrix is a mediocre film. Yes, the original. Keanu Reeves alone prevents it from being good. The man critically undermines almost every movie he has a significant role in.
I hate anything with “National Lampoons” in the title.
I hate Airplane!
I hate all the Naked Gun movies. (Despite this, I like Leslie Nelson quite a bit. Forbidden Planet, Police Squad! & Creepshow cement him as a class act.)
The Conjuring is insipid trash.

Even Vacation/Christmas Vacation?
TOS is the only good Star trek stuff.
The original Ghostbusters is the only good Ghostbusters thing.

Including the movies, right?

Not an unpopular opinion, unless you’re referring to the actual original Ghostbusters from 1975.

Ah, not that one. But I rarely meet a GB fan who doesn’t like 2 or the cartoons or some kinda BS.
