The Unaltered Trilogy on Roku

Really? Huh. Cool - that’s a nice bonus for anyone has a Roku device/app etc. 👍

Apparently, Harmy’s Despecialized Editions have also been known to appear on many an IPTV providers’ film listings, too.

There was once a popular ‘veetle’ service… with people creating their own 24/7 online TV channels; some being GFFA based.

Of course, I know not much of such matters…

A little patience goes a long way on this old-school Rebel base. If you are having issues finding what you are looking for, these will be of some help…

Curious if they used the GOUT or a different version.

I’m just a simple man trying to make my way in the universe.

Star Wars has 3 eras: The eras are 1977-1983(pre Expanded Universe), (1983-2014) expanded universe, or (2014- now) Disney-bought version. Each are valid.

Not the GOUT. It’s 16:9, different color timing, different sound mix. Looks like DeSpecialized. While it does suffer from poor compression, it’s looks too clean to be 4K77.

Interesting! Now I wish I had a roku to test it. Cinemabox has a signup page but maybe it doesn’t work on a PC…

Yeah I was going to post about this as I don’t know what this service is. Or how it’s a thing. I assume it’s going to be pulled ASAP.

On social media a few people were talking about it, and somebody said it was Harmy’s version. Very fishy.

Roku has loads of apps that show films for free. Legality is definitely in question.

The version on the Cinema Box app on Roku is apparently a Harmy Despecialized. There is a brief section of credits at the end of the original credits that thanks numerous persons by nickname and especially thanks originaltrilogy.com. In fact, that’s how I heard of this site and am making this post.
BTW the Cinema Box app appears to be no longer available. There were a lot of movies on there of dubious legality such as Disney titles.

I have Roku, I will take a look and report back.

Just stumbled upon this news article: https://www.mensjournal.com/entertainment/theatrical-1977-star-wars-is-streaming-roku Block Blast

I don’t own a Roku, but perhaps someone here does. The way I understand it, it is a clandestine application running user-uploaded video, so nothing official from Lucasfilm.

Still, I wonder what source they used. Anyone here who owns a Roku?

If this version truly is the original 1977 theatrical cut, I’d love to know what source they used. Was it from an old LaserDisc, VHS, or something else? It’s rare to see that version in such an accessible format.

It was the Despecialized edition, before the app was removed.
