Old movies are like gold, buried under some dirt you'll find some precious things... And most of them are better than the movies released by Hollycrapwood nowadays...
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

I know what you mean..

But something about the sitcom camera angles and washed-out colors just turns me off.

LOL sitcom camera angles? Well try some of Orson Welle's movies, and you won't get any of that. Washed-up colors? OK so technicolor wasn't so good back then, but still...

Wasn't it that originally, filmmakers shot everything from a head on angle because they thought changing would confuse audiences?

When TV first started out, they were originally just trying to make it feel like you were actually at a theatre watching a play, the best example I can think of off of my head is the Honeymooners.
"I don't mind if you don't like my manners. I don't like them myself. They're pretty bad. I grieve over them during the long winter evenings."

What about Brady Bunch. The angles in that show were pretty plain too.

All I know of Honneymooners is what I've seen on BttF.

I've never actually seen it, but I've read about it. It had... Jackie Gleason as a bus driver, am I right? He was the police officer in "smokey and the bandit", right? I'm filled with useless crappy pop culture trivia...

Is it really that funny, or is it lame in retrospect like a lot of early TV?

It all depends on your perspective, I personally enjoyed it(then again I watch silent films).

OK let's see... I'm not so much of a TV fan, and I'll not mention local TV shows, so I'll keep this short.

1- Monty Python's Flying Circus
2- Mystery Science Theater 3000
3- The Simpsons, Futurama, Family Guy (basically the same show)
4 to 10- When the TV is turned off and I'm reading a book, it's rare but I love when it happens, I love reading a book and raising my eyes and seeing a turned off TV.
