I hate it when my friends try to tell me about the "enhanced" Special Editions and then say I'm obessed when I correct them.

I hate it when a girl I like is already taken.

And I hate cold coffee

Episode II: Shroud of the Dark Side

Emperor Jar-Jar
“Back when we made Star Wars, we just couldn’t make Palpatine as evil as we intended. Now, thanks to the miracles of technology, it is finally possible. Finally, I’ve created the movies that I originally imagined.” -George Lucas on the 2007 Extra Extra Special HD-DVD Edition

But it looks like Bucky O'Hare.

Noo, it's the new Bugs Bunny looks...

So does Warbler, but I don't here him wanting light heartedness or cute bunnies* in Episode 3.

*cute bunnies is only an metaphor for non-darkness, not to be taken literally.

I hate it when people words in my mouth.

Because of the story it is going to tell (where the bad guys end up winning) it will have to be dark. But I don't think it should be too dark. Certainly not rated 'R' dark. Stars Wars in general is not dark. After all, at the end of the Saga the good guys end up winning.

One other thing I hate(and this has nothing to do with what is being said in this thread):

I hate being told I'm wrong and then in the same breath, told that I don't have the right to respond and that I should shut up about it.

To assume someone disagree's with 'X' merely because they "havent" said they agree with 'x' is not logical. And it is, in a way, putting words in the person's mouth. You are assuming what the person thinks without asking him.

That's not what I meant, DC (or should I not call you DC?) What I meant was that all this "dark" talk annoys me because it feels like Lucas is tossing it around as a kind of advertising strategy, to make people think they're getting a better movie than they actually are.

Besides, Lucas's idea of "dark" will most likely translate into dimmer lighting and more CGI laden violence. Dimmer lighting and CGI laden violence is fun and all but overloading Episode III with it won't cover the fact that this whole prequel affair has been a hollow and wasted opportunity.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

Dark doesn't necessarily equat to a good or great movie
Author

Granted. It's obvious from the trailer that this film is going to have great action; but that was true of AoTC and TMP too.

Nobody is saying that dark will automatically make it a good movie, but at least as dark as ESB would be a necesity or it would be totally off on the tone. You can't have a tragedy/revenge story that's light hearted.

what about a story that is neither too dark nor too light?
Author

Isn't that the goal? To make it appropriately dark without making it too dark for SW.

I agree, but I doubt Lucas will achieve that goal.

It dosen't matter if ROTS is good or bad, after I watch it, I know I'll feel depressed (some sort of "post-star wars depression"), because it'll be the last one... The last time I watch a star wars movie without knowing what'll happen next.

I refuse to have any faith in Episode III rising to the occasion.

I agree. While I liked the trailer, some of the footage during 60 Minutes kinda looked 'eh'. I'm gonna go into it with relatively low expectations. But at least I'm back interested in it, if even slightly.

I think there is still the possibility of a TV series.
