Well, it IS the official language here, so... yes.

Dayv what happened? Who did what to you?

Have you used a Mac, DanielB?

I use both and prefer Macs for several reasons... 1. the don't crash nearly as often as PCs; 2. Hardware upgrades are far easier since you don't have to worry about conflict errors that occur in PCs because of all the thousands of different manufacturers (1 maker = 1 computer it will work on); 3. E-mail viruses are not a concern (viruses are developed to spread as quickly as possible and to as many people as possible; coding one for a Mac only results in 5% of computers worldwide being infected; what's the point?).

I was a PC user for over a decade until I discovered Macs. I haven't personally owned a PC since (I have one at work, as well as my Mac G5 dual processor tower). I will admit that my new PC works a lot better than my old ones as would be expected and I think it's a great computer overall, but the processor overloads a lot quicker and with fewer tasks running.

How true, how true. I think I'll always have a PC, just because my wife is resistant to change and because PCs are the computer of choice among lawyers, but I plan on getting a Mac for DVD/video editing and authoring. They just run so much faster on those kinds of tasks.

If you want a PC that works well, it's really up to you to do the research and put it together yourself. If you buy a pre-built machine, expect problems.

That, to me, is the big difference between Macs and PCs.

I built my PC myself. Runs XP. I haven't rebooted it since I moved into the new apartment two months ago. It runs 24/7. I've had Windows-based machines running for months and months without requiring a restart.

The horribly misconfigured machines you use at work should not be used as an example.

Think of it this way: if Microsoft had only a few different hardware configurations to worry about, Windows would be much simpler to build and maintain. Since they have to build an OS that works with literally thousands of different pieces of hardware, the fact that it's bloated shouldn't surprise anyone.

And yes, Macs have fewer virus and security issues, but that's not because they're inherently more secure, but because virus writers and hackers want to make the most trouble on as many machines as possible, so they target Windows. If all those troublemakers suddenly turned their eyes to the Mac, Apple would have just as many "issues" with their OS as Microsoft.

And that's why I like Mac is because of the need to configure for so many different vendors. And nobody makes it clear to the common man what works and what does not. And then stores won't take back items that are opened and aren't compatible so you're screwed.

That's exactly what I said in my earlier post. I know it could happen, but not until it becomes a bragworthy event for virus programmers. The sheer numbers of PC users out there make writing PC viruses much more bragworthy. I never said Macs were more secure, just less likely to get hit.

I HAVE A CIRCLE OF FRIENDS THAT ONLY USE MACS. IF YOU DON'T HAVE A MAC THEN YOU'RE NOT IN THE CIRCLE. GRANTED, IT'S NOT A HUGE CIRCLE AND I DO HAVE HAVE FRIENDS THAT ONLY USE pc's. I EVEN HAVE A FRIEND THAT WORKS AT microsoft SUPPORT.

I asume you are either a Java developer or a web developer - kinda rare having someone program for anything besides x86.

Yes but, what programming language did you use? I'm not familiar with someone using a Mac to program...
