^^ Good call. I'm almost sure they've added some sort of 4:3 instagram style fake effect thing onto these clips, which is a shame. There are quite a few alternate angles on the DS hanger shootout clip.

 Thanks :-)

You know that shot of Luke gazing up at the Tantive IV being shot at (In the treadwell deleted scene)? It's pretty much some twinkling lights. Well I was wondering what that shot would look like if it was finished. But I'm having trouble visualising it.

It would be like this...

...but with the bellies of the two ships I guess.

Anybody know of a film where somebody is watching a space battle from the ground? So I can get an idea of what this could look like.

FYI: Scientific realism is not really a consideration ;-)

Also some shots of the underside of both a stardestroyer and blockade runner would be handy.

There's a great shot of the underside of a star destroyer (three actually, but only one that you could use) in TESB when Han says, "We can still outmaneuver them."

Thanks that shot was perfect. Just need a Blockade runner shot now.

Really struggling with imagining how to make this shot look and move. I'm trying some things and seeing how it pans out.

A first rough test of some concepts for Luke's view of the pursuit...

https://vimeo.com/130046913

It's rough as hell. No animated laser blasts yet. The matte on the binoculars is a bit wonky. It needs extra info overlays and crosshairs etc. Plus I'll pan and zoom the shot around as if Luke is focusing in on the action. I might even try going in and out of focus.

Thoughts?

Looks awesome! I think with panning/zooming/focusing it will be even better. The only potentially helpful thought I can share is that you might want to animate the Star Destroyer as traveling faster than the Tantive. In the preview they appear to be going the same speed.

Really excited about this project. Amazing work so far!

Looks good.  But add a bit of shaking.  There is no way Luke could hold them that steady.

I would suggest that only the Star destroyer would be visible and much smaller with less movement. The main movement should be from the binoculars natural shaking movement.

The mystery could perhaps be what is that ship shooting at? But even with the Binoculars it's hard to see what is going on...

Not sure about your footage order of scenes but anyway that is what I think would work better.

I like the idea.

By the way the footage of the POV terrain shot in the Landspeeder whilst searching for R2-D2 is not a POV shot.

It's meant to be for the scanner on the landspeeder and is meant to directly preceed Luke announcing he found R2 on the scanner to C3PO. So it was meant to be an element similar to the Sand people binocular shot.

The Terrain is meant to be Blue in color with red display overlays

I think I know what you mean, but just to clarify could you post some screengrabs from google of the shots you are referring to?

The shot at 05:59 going over the landscape. It's actually fine in the position it is in as a deleted scene just it being altered footage on a screen in the landspeeder as an element has not been done to it.

The image of what it was meant to look like can be found in the star wars visual dictionary. I am pretty sure it is this footage but colored Blue with a red cross hatch.... But it does not contain the screen it was meant to be set into only how the image was meant to be adjusted.

^ Interesting. That wouldn't be to difficult to create.

Dammit I own the Visual Dictionary but I've misplaced it when I last moved house. It's in a box somewhere LOL

Nope, no updates on this sadly. It’s always churning away somewhere at the back of my mind, with all kinds of new ideas and changes. If I could just solve the sound/music problems, it’d be easy.

Anything specifically you’re struggling with? Ever since reading this thread and messing around with the idea myself on Vegas a bit I’ve been thinking about it a lot too. If you want any ideas or help on editing I’ll be more than happy to lend a hand.

What is the matter with the sound and music?

Author

I’d assume the problem is not being able to separate the dialog/sfx from the music, which in the case of making a radically altered cut of a film is especially troublesome; because the changes in the score (even when helped by fades) make the editing evident, and gets in the way of enjoying a fan edit (happens far too often). To be fair, I don’t mind muting some portions of the film, it’s a perfectly acceptable technique associated with the restoration of lost scenes, the same as using stills or reverting to B&W footage; even using explainatory cards when nothing else is available. The downside is that the cut is admiting to be incomplete, but it’s better than nothing.

In my mind, for instance, such methods could apply to radical prequel edits; to present them as restorations of partially lost movies or with missing elements. Certainly doesn’t hurt to experiment in that regard.

As IsanRido suggested… it’s a problem of having the music high in the original mix. The visual editing and VisFX are easy, but the total rescoring side of this project is a big issue.

Is there still a download for this? I would love to see this.

There is only a VERY ROUGH (Audio wise) unfinished version from quite a while ago. It also doesn’t include some of the newer changes like the remade pan-down and Falcon takeoff FX. But despite the very unfinished state some have told me they still really enjoyed it. I’ll send you a link.
