Ryan really enjoyed this^ well done. Not really any suggestions how to make this better as your stuck with odds and ends of the Jabba clip, concerning the cantina clip have you tried just lowering the music so we can hear the on set noises cutting in and out, yes it feels rough but thats half the point of a recreation of a workprint I reckon.

Thanks for the feedback.

I'll probably go back in at some point in the editing process and construct a complete 'on set' audio effects track for the 2nd half of the cantina. Then I'll be able to turn the music down a bit and let the effects track do more of the work. But I definately don't want the audio popping in and out, that just makes the scene hard to enjoy for me.

Just a short test this time, of the Vader/Bast conversation. Click image to play:

This is my attempt to 'create' some dialogue for Vader to say during this deleted conversation with Bast. The original raw footage had David Prowse delivering some muffled and almost in-audible lines on set. As James Earl Jones is the voice of Vader in the other 99% of my cut, I needed him in this scene to. I've also overlayed some classic John Williams music.

See if you can spot where the dialogue came from (It's not too hard lol).

I'm still to make the absolute final decision where this will sit in the cut. But I'll probably be putting this diectly after the scene with Tarkin deciding to fly off to Alderaan. So these two scenes will link together and flow naturally into the next stormtrooper search of mos esiley scene. This raises the possibility of introducing a 'Scene missing - shows death star going to hyperspace' intertitle. Unless anybody can suggest any "Giant round thing going to warp" footage from another pre '77 sci-fi flick/TV show????

I like it. As you say though the Vader dialogue is pretty familiar. I wonder if you might be able to get a fresh line or two from the Star Wars Interactive Board Game. I think the torrent in on MySpleen.

Thanks. Is that one of those old VHS play along board games? Had the Klingon Star Trek one, it was a blast.

Can't find SW game on MySpleen :-(

Yeah unfortunately I was confusing it with Bounty Hunter: Beyond The Game. I got the interactive board game from Darth Ender. Your best bet is contacting him.

Can anybody suggest a shot from something I can use for the Falcon going into Hyperdrive? As in, blasting off into the distance with a loud bang. Was trying to find footage from ST:TOS but having no luck.

HELP!!!

btw Found this on my YouTube favourites from way back. Pretty much the greatest thing on YouTube:

You could try and create it yourself if you can't find anything. For example this green screen of the Falcon:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwaUtTMhejE

Combined with this hyperspace shot:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdqUB-qPNVI

It probably wouldn't look amazing but it might be good enough.

Thx Dan. That's cool stuff, a fanedit treasure trove. How's RadicalJedi coming?

I got it sorted already. John Carpenter's 'Dark Star' has got loads of good material: hyperdrive, hyperspace, lasers and planets blowing up Alderaan style.

But my problem now is finding footage that evokes this shot...

I'm looking at documentaries on lasers and old star trek shows but nothing so far is suitable. Am I being stupid/blind or are there no compilation videos of TOS Enterprise firing it's phasers on YouTube!?!?!

Maybe a shot of the Borg Cube firing? Or something like this with some laser fire added to the shot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aF4WSeNFgCo

Jedi is going OK - I'm currently converting the latest version to an MKV. Hopefully I'll be uploading it by the weekend.

Can't use TNG. It's gotta be pre '77 sci-fi or WW2 footage from any period.

But I've found a nice shot from episode 1 of Captain Scarlet. Using the Mysteron moon beam thing from the opening Captain black intro.

Think Anderson's Space:1999 should also be a gold mine of "Temp" SW footage.

would it be worth using a powerful rocket instead of a laser... similar to atomic bomb?

or a steampunk style laser?

Just ideas or something to think about...

Yes did consider a rocket. I would love to find a shot or two from those old 50's serials that George is always saying are the basis for SW like Flash Gordon or Buck Rodgers (Especially as they both got hastily remade post SW).

Point me to a few YouTube clips of what things you're thinking about.^

For the Death Star explosion I've got the Valley Forge nuking from Silent Running in mind.

This test is a bit different from the rest I've uploaded that have mainly focused on restored deleted material.

I'm now getting to the post-Tatooine/Space-based 2nd half of SW. This is 5mins showing the sort of "Temp" footage I'll be using in 'SW: The Lost Workprint'. It's all gonna be WW2 footage (From any period in cinema) and strictly-pre-'77 Sci-Fi films and TV shows.

For this particular 5 minutes I've used footage from:

- Memphis Belle (1990)
- Red Tails (2012)
- Footage of the Bismarck (She'll be playing a lot of Star Destroyers)
- Dark Star (1974)
- 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
- Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons (1967)

If you've got an idea post it here.

Thanks to daneditor's suggestion to use dialogue from 'Star Wars: The Interactive Boardgame' and darth_ender's kind uploading of said game. I've been able to create new dialogue for Vader that is unique to this scene instead of re-hashing lines from elsewhere in the OT. Thought I'd show it in colour as you can already see how the BW version looks anyway, on my Vimeo channel.

The scene is much improved, thanks guys!

I know that Audio from the Game that Darth Ender supplied you with...

lol a lot of it is no good... But it is james earl jones and it almost sounds identical to vader...

The use of lines is good.... There is a bit too much high and high mid frequencies in the Vader voice though and in general... What are you using to do the edit with?

I cleaned it up a bit but I suggest you clean up each sound element individually and then mix them together it's way too toppy overall while the music sounds fine

Great work ronster! I'm less fussy about audio fidelity than I usually would be, given the workprint nature of this project.

But this is the kind of help I'm needing from forum members. I can give you the audio without the music if you want to have a play with it?

I'm editing in 'Nero Vision Xtra' btw

p.s. Do you think there is anything that can be done with the technician shouting over Bast's line at the end? I minimised it significantly in the mix but it's still there.

I'll have a go at it for you... the way to remove the crew member shouting in the background is to cut it out entirely... So that may mean being more clever with the dialogue.

I don't need the music you can add that but I will try to clean out the horrible tinny sound for you and I'll have a go at Vader for you too.

separate sound files though

The first half of 'The Lost Workprint' (70mins) is now available to download upon request...

I welcome any feedback and would especially welcome input on sourcing alternate/Temp FX footage for the rest of the edit. As now I've got to start the difficult task of approaching the FX heavy Death Star rescue and Yavin finale.

There is the odd tweak needed here and there but basically this is 99% how the first 70mins will look. Thanks to those that have suggested ideas already and posted links to clips. Keep it up guys n gals!

Hey Ryan,

I am trying to get rid of the "GO!" crewe member shouting for you but I need to find a line from Bast where he says "Plan" or something else that will make the sentence work.

Do you know of any word he says that can be used in the sentence?

I tried using the "PL" and the "and" from earlier and It just won't gel so I need another word to make it work.

Govener tarkins foolish (Insert words) Break her

How about "...Tarkin's foolish operation to break her"

from...

"We've ordered a blockade and a curfew, and started a search operation. It's just a matter of time before we find the Rebels."

Sadly, I think Leslie Schofield's only other recorded line in SW is...

"We've analyzed their attack, sir, and there is a danger.
Should I have your ship standing by?"

Schofield uses the word "to" at 12.17 in this clip from the sitcom 'The smoking room':
