The Star Wars Archives, a different kind of preservation

Hi Guyz,

I have finally uploaded some sort of finished website. A lot of content will still have to be added (with lots of contributions if that's possible), and only a few years can be viewed right now.

1977 - rare images (from the collection of Gary Kurtz), A interactive Read Along Book, more galleries (with the help of some friends), and rare behind the scenes footage with the permission of ROK.
1978 - Rare images from behind the scenes of The Holiday Special, and the oscars (could use more content there )
1980 - The lost Michel Parbot Documentary (8 new clips and a screenshot gallery), more rare images, Interactive Read Along Book, nostaligia galleries (have to add lotst more to these).
1983 - Rare images, dutch tv review of ROTJ from 1983, John Williams in concert (star Wars of course), Interactive Read Along Book.
1984 - The making of Caravan of Courage (from the collection of Eric Walker), rare images.
1987 - only the background sound added there
1994 - downloadable star wars screen entertainment
2001 - preview of my own "trip to tatooine"

Download links will be added tomorrow within the galleries.
I will also be adding lots and lots more content in the coming weeks and any contributions are welcome. You can exspect lots of vintage downloadable magazines. A forum will also be added within the next few days where rare and/or high res images can be traded or shared with the community.

I want to make some kind of community driven collection with all the best, rare and unseen images and video from the star wars universe we can put together.

I'm looking forward to your responses. Enjoy, it has been a lot of work: www.starwarsarchives.com

Darth Neo,

The John Williams clip is definitely not 1983. More like 1993.

Everything else is fantastic. TONS of images I've never seen.

Are you allowed to tell us what your relation is to mr kurtz?

Impressive. Most impressive.

I am perusing the site right now with great interest. Very very cool stuff here, as I had anticipated, only even better.

Quick first suggestions: I had some trouble with the video sections, like in the Making of ESB section. Sometimes the videos would stop and go back to the main menu when they were finished, and sometimes they would just stop or get stuck, I couldn't tell which. Some kind of controls would be nice as well, backwards and forwards or at least a Pause function.

This is awesome so far. I will have more suggestions (and probably contributions) after I finish.

Darth Neo, this community owes you a great thanks. This is so exciting! I think I said this in the thread that Rok started: it's a really great feeling to still get excited by things that are so familiar to me at this point. Thank you for that!

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

Darth Neo - Can't thank you enough for this!

I have been waiting an eternity (since I was 7) to see some of this material (and w/ only a brief perusal)

As SKot stated, some minor web-bugs to work out ... but, whew!

This site (w/ a combined effort from the community) can really be something to be proud of

Superb job Darth Neo!! I am mightily impressed-it's a real labour of love and looks terrific!!

If only LUCASFILM could get off their collective butts and, instead of releasing wave after wave of merchandising that I won't be buying, do something as good as this in anniversary year!!

Cheers!!

Darth Neo,

I echo the sentiments of everyone else here. Your site is amazing and it's a great addition to the Star Wars universe. I can't wait to take a good chunk of time and go through everything you've made available. Thanks you for all your hard work and for giving all of us SW fans this great gift.

I've been away for a few weeks and to find on my return that the website has gone live was a real treat.

Fantastic work my friend. So much stuff I've not seen and some stuff that I have presented superbly.

Thanks again for your input to this community Darth Neo.

I look forward to seeing how things develop.

Thanks

Sounds neat, but I won't do Flash.
It's a choice I've made, and I'm prepared to accept the consequence of my decision. No video clips for me.

Still, I think it would be nice if you'd allow non-Flash users to view the still images and text.

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

Hi Guyz,

thanks for your kind words so far. More stuff is yet to come, already working on the updates and some of your suggestions.

Keep an eye on this thread.

And no Flash Sorry, that's what you need to view the site as stated in the splash screen. I will need all my time for the updates I'm preparing (already some new galleries within 1983). Suggestion: wait for the forum to open. I will present some selected images in there at higher resolutions for sharing/trading....

Darth Neo, in the ROTS 60 Minutes interview that you posted they mentioned a couple of times an interview with George Lucas they did on TPM back in 1999. I was wondering if you had this, because I would like to have it for my collection also. And does anyone know where I can get the George Lucas interview that is on the 97 SE set?

I also posted this in the "The Making of The Empire Strikes Back thread.

Hi Guyz,

At the request of someone I uploaded controls for the video's on the site (loading, seek, play, pauze, mute). They appear at mouse-over.

Marvolo: I don't know if there was a 60 min for AOTC. At least I don't have it (I'll upload the TMP one tonight).

What did you guyz think of some of the content in the galleries (Gary Kurtz photography)?
If anyone has better resolution versions of any of the photo's on the site, please contact me so I can update the site.

I will be releasing the forum in a few days. I will start a few threads with some selected higher res versions from the images on the site to start the trading/sharing. Any requests? (the continuity polaroids are off limts though).

Greetings,

Darth Neo

The Gary Kurtz photos are absolutely priceless. I wish I could buy a hardbound book with just his photos.
