The Sith Revealed 2.0 (Released)

Hi all,

Thought I’d let everyone know of a project I’ve been working on recently, as I near completion.

The background: When I bought Episode III on DVD, what was the first thing I did? Check out the bonus material, of course. And as I sat there, I realised what a wealth of footage there was, both on the disc and on my hard drive, of the various stages of Star Wars filmaking. filming, models, effecst etc. And also there was a lot of useable bluescreen footage of certain scenes.

With this, and ‘Deleted Magic’ in mind, I downloaded a trail version of Womble, and set about replacing certain shots with their unfinished counterparts, as well as inserting lots of other behind the scenes, and pre-viz footage.

The result is “Revealing Of The Sith”. I would write more, but I’m shattered from working on this all day (been working on it for about a week), and I’m sure my girlfriend is p****d at me, but I’d love to hear your thoughts…

Sheesh this sounds like a major undertaking. With all the stuff the Official site offers, all the behind the scene books which have been produced, it would seem as if at least 50% of the movie has been seen in an alternative form. Your collection of stuff must be much more organized then mine, to even think about accomplishing this idea. Sound great!

This is exactly what my project 'Building Empire' is like, except with less (i think) behind the scenes material available. It really is a big job to get it all together and get it in the right place. The job then is to make it look cohesive with a natural flow - something that has been the biggest challenge.

Might I suggest to generate more interest for the viewer of your project that you put in an audio commentary from all the various sources.

Theses project really do eat up time, so be careful!

I wish you the best of luck!

Audio commentary...hmm, not to sure I could do that. After all, I'm just learning this (making it up) as I go along

Very nice. I can't wait to see this one. My two cents is to take your time to get it right. Kind of like Deleted Magic and (soon) Jambe's Building Empire, this needs to be a classic for years to come. Not to put any pressure on ya! =)

haha...pressure

look guys, this is gonna be my first release. I've just finished inserting all the clips and now I'm going through it scene by scene. In total there are roughly 215 clips throughout the film, which has a running time of 2 hours. There are whole segments I have removed, simply because I either haven't had anything to contribute to the scene and wanting to skip to the next relevant one or simply to move it along, or, in some cases, cos I hated the scene

Please understand that as my first major project (one which I have yet to export out of Womble...which may hold it's own set of problems, I fear). In some cases I have wanted to add more time to show clips, so have simply looped a few frames of audio for an ambient-ish continual of the soundtrack. And other edits are quite harsh, noticably so, yet I haven't the know how yet to do better.

However, I am a Demoinoid member so I'm hoping to upload this myself, but will be sending out a couple of discs too.

Yeah, take it easy. Don't worry about it being a classic just yet.

A tip to iron out those harsh audio edits - Try an 8 frame audio dissolve/mix (if you software lets you)

I'm exporting this from womble as we speak, which should leave me with the final .VOB file. Now, while this is fine for burning to dvd with Nero, how's the best way to upload it?

Also, since this gives me free time from working on it, I'm going to hunt for anything else I might have missed and could have included, so expect this to be version 1.0 (of course, my Womble trial runs out in 9 days so I'm gonna have to be quick about it).

If your considering this a preview version, you could just make a small .avi/.mov/.qt/mp4/.wma/etc file (maybe 320x240) and upload it to one of the free sites like http://megaupload.com/ or http://www.yousendit.com/. This way you could get some feedback on what you've got, without all the effort of a full release. Maybe chop it up into small pieces for everyone to consume, maybe 2-6 minute chunks of parts you think work really well.

Yeah, I might do that. However, as I said, it'll be as a .VOB file. Will that be generally acceptable?

I don't think anyone has a problem with .vob files. The problem though is that if your not going to buy a full version of the software your using, then you've only got a few days to make changes. A .vob of the whole project will easily be 4+ gigs, that's at least a day for you to upload and for everyone to download. Asuming the worst, that puts you three days in the whole. 1 to make the file, 1 to upload, 1 for us to download. With a smaller version, you can get the project down to several hundred MB (~300 maybe), this will drastically shorten the time frame for transfer to get review and comment before your software expires. But all this is irrelevant if you decide to buy the software. Write it off on your taxes.

okay, I'm uploading a segment now. It's the dooku fight which I've chosen because a) it's early in the film so that will (hopefully) leave everyone excited about the rest, and b) because it's one of the scenes I'm most proud of. I had a lot to work with and there's some awesome sychnhronicity in there.

Will post the link as soon as it's available.

ps Even ver.1.0 is a few days of now as I've found a couple of shots on TOS which I'd somehow missed, so need to get them converted and inserted first.

Can anyone tell me how much Womble is to buy? Or can I get away wih using multiple emails addresses to get new keys? This close to Xmas and all, I can't really justify the expense on what is ultimatley a hobby. (well, not in my opinion, but theres the girlfriend and bills to pay etc etc haha)

Davey, check your PMs with some Womble info.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

the site says it has been removed?

YSI.com has a limit to the either the number of times or the amount of information transfered. For everyone to get a chance to see the files, the community involved has to reupload the files as they download them. Megaupload works a little differently but i can't remember the specifics, but i think they offer more bandwidth, but there's a couple hurdles. (not all OSs and browsers work successfully) If this kind of distribution doesn't work, we can all blame ourselves. there was a mention of demonoid earlier in the thread, maybe that's the way to go, with trrents the sharing is built in.

ok, ive no idea why that was removed, as far as I'm aware it wasn't downloaded once. Maybe 165mb file was too much.

Amm going to try uploading to Demonoid now. I understand not everyone is a member, but I can't think of anywhere else to host it

The way these free download sites work, is you upload the file and the site owner has a set of restrictions placed on the content you've uploaded. YSI.com might only allow for 10 downloads, other sites put a cap on the amount of content distributed (1/2 gig). The person who uploads the file will not be told one way or the other if the file has been downloaded. What probably happened is the first YSI-Link you made was downloaded and reached it's restriction, at which point it goes offline. To keep things alive, the people who've downloaded have to reupload.

Another option is creating your own bittrrent tracker. There is an open source one called http://blogtorrent.com/. You need access to a webserver and the ISP might have some restrictions, but they've made the installation relatively simple, and set up is less painful then a full blown bt tracker.

There are other tracker sites besides demonoid.

Man, this is starting to do my swede!

First, I've twice failed to successfully upload the Dooku file to Demonoid, now, secondly, Nero's decided it dosen't like playing with the final .VOB file and I can't manage to burn it to DVD either.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

[edit] okay, I've uploaded the torrent to Demonoid (I think). See, I didn't realise I had to create a torrent first. So that done, and with all the files in the right place, I think it's ready.

Heres the link to the Demonoid page -

http://www.demonoid.com/torrents/details/227490/

Guess I won't know if it works till someone tries downloading it , so I can seed.

Finally, a result.

I've successfully burnt the first final copy and am watching in now (through a PS2, if anyones interested, which normally won't play for spit) and damned if it dosen't look mighty fine!!

If anyone with the knowledge and ability to upload the full version to myspleen or other torrent trackers wants a copy, please let me know.

Okay, now as it stands, the movie opens in exactly the same way, still with the Revenge Of The Sith crawl. I was wondering if anyone could possibly help me create a new one, with a new spiel, either by doing it themselves or teaching me how.

Any help on how to create a functional menu screen would be nice too. Currently I am using Nero, which just gives me a thumbnail on a screenshot.
