Nice! Did you make that?

We will probably see bits of things we were never supposed to see, like edges of sets, lighting rigs, cables, and other equipment.

Yea I made it I had the 1080 rip and a dvd print on a old hard drive thought I’d see just how much they trimmed out.

Well thanks for sharing it. 😃

Is the tennis ball still that rolls up to Danny still pink on the 1080 version you have?

Thanks again.

The recent edited for tv version airing on AMC may be derived from a new master, as the tennis ball is proper yellow again. They also digitally censored the Room 237 ghost, which was done optically in older tv versions.

I’ll have to check that tennis ball shot since I have the 2 disc DVD. Since it came out about if not the same time as the BD it’s probably the pink one (damn). I’ll have to check the Netflix print as well.

Just checked my DVD. Yep it has the orange tennis ball. Crap. At the moment The Shining’s no longer on Netflix so couldnt check that.

This is a second scene comparison of The Interview.
1080p widescreen vs 4x3(480p) vs 35mm print (scaled to fit over the 35mm print)

Second pic is just the scene of the ball rolling in to Danny while playing with his cars overlayed so you can see how much different the ball and cars changed. It’s weird that the carpet is almost the same tone 1 is lighter but the tennis balls and the cars colors changed.

pink ball and left cars are wide screen yellow ball and right cars fullscreen

Looking forward to this a lot!
I’d be very interested in using this print to reconstruct the shorter British/European cut. 😃

The pink ball showed up when I caught a theater screening a couple years ago. I presume it was a DCP and not the Blu Ray.

The European cut is available on a Region Free Blu Ray. Not too hard to find on Ebay. I have an HD DVD of it myself.

Yes, we’ve seen that. But for this 35mm print, we want to see the whole thing - fill width and full height. The 1.33:1 and 1.85:1 versions are already available in abundance on home video media. The print is unique and many of us are interested in seeing the entire image.

I totally agree. If the entire movie is cropped in the same way in the 1.85:1 version, I’ll volunteer to make a 1.85 version of the final scanned print for anyone who wants it.

I Was sharing a pic I found wasn’t telling anyone to do anything or saying how it should be done. I understand the point is too see the whole aspect of the print. I didn’t have a clue you’d seen it before. If you scroll up I even said the transfer was looking good meaning as is uncropped. I even made a screen shot comparison to show how much more was being shown in the 35mm print…

Isn’t the VHS uncropped?

Ol’ George has the GOUT, I see.

the vhs is cropped to a point its basically the same as the 4X3 dvd

Author

Oh yes, so I see from the earlier comparison image.

Just watched the scene on AMC. You are correct.

Very surreal seeing it with the soundtrack area exposed. Kind of like a horror Fantasia. 😉
