The Sequel Radical Redux Ideas Thread (Radical Ideas Welcome). — Page 2

While just a rumor at this time, episode 9 could possibly be turned into two movies… If, and that is a BIG if, this happens, what influence could this have on editing?

Merge 7 and 8 into one movie. Yes. Do it. Make both movies better by cutting out all the fat and slapping them together or re-edit them into one movie.

R2 has the map the entire time, start the movie on Jakku. Tell the story from Rey’s perspective. Don’t explain Finn’s background or crashing on Jakku. This would FINALLY get rid of my biggest plot complaint. How and the hell does Poe get off Jakku!?!?!

I had an idea for a radical edit of episode 7 that I’ve started to work on, where I have tried to integrate some of Captain phasma’s scenes from 8 into 7, specifically her duel with Finn, and some of the Rose, DJ, Phasma scenes.

(I dont have the vfx skills that I need.)

I want to take some of the Finn, Rose, DJ stuff and put that into 7,

ie Finn and Rose (both imperials in this edit) try to escape the 1st order together. Phasma catches them, kills Rose, and then sends finn to “re-integration.” Ie his mind is wiped.

So, is his interest in Rey real? Is it a remnant of a past memory of Rose? Adds depth to both characters.

The next time we see Finn he has his breakdown on Jakku, escapes with Poe, etc.

I would love to integrate Finn’s duel with Phasma into the destruction of Starkiller. (She escapes the compactor and tries to confront finn.)

To me, Finn being underutilized in both movies was a real downer. They had a real opportunity to show the Star Wars universe an unfiltered view of the Empire’s/1st order’s cruelty from a soldier’s perspective. What is life like for imperial citizens etc. they squadered it.

The only problem with killing off Rose is she’s confirmed for Episode 9 and we don’t know how big a role she’ll have.

D’Qar should have dragon blood trees like in the concept art to make it more unique.

What if Kylo had a blue saber.

Or a green.

It ain’t a radical redux thread without Paja spewing a constant stream of pointless recolors. Welcome to the thread.

They’re worth playing around with. Back in 2016 I made a clip of Kylo Ren with a yellow lightsaber. I’d show it, but I must have taken it off of my youtube, and I know for sure I deleted it off of my computer. So it’s gone.

I prefer Kylo Ren with a red lightsaber, so I wouldn’t actually replace it, but it’s still cool seeing what could be. Anyway VFX for the sake of VFX isn’t a bad thing.

Hot take: The Force Awakens is in no way, shape or form a rehash or remake of A New Hope.
It’s no more derivative than the average sequel, and is certainly less derivative than the prequels.

One of us has Lucas in their name, a picture of Lucas as their profile pic…

Combine & re-edit TFA & TLJ into a psychological thriller about a real world Star Wars fangirl undergoing a fever dream where she’s a superhero in the SW Universe.

Arrivederci.

that actually sounds pretty awesome.

I had some really surreal ideas to go with the concept — Kylo Ren kills Lor San Tekka & Han by opening his helmet, releasing a blinding white light which causes fatal seizures; Ren is actually Rey’s evil twin, also played by Daisy Ridley; Luke is Snoke — but have absolutely no idea how any of them could be implemented.

Arrivederci.

So to expand on my idea of replacing the Millenium Falcon, I think I have just the ship: the Twilight. I’m sure if Filoni had gotten his way and made TCW a Rebels-style show about a crew of his OCs, this would’ve been their ship. I can’t prove it, but it seems like a pretty obvious deduction. Luckily, Lucas was there to tell him otherwise, but that meant the ship was severely underused in the finished product. Given it’s such a cool design, it only seems right to give it another chance. It wouldn’t be the same instance of the ship, just another one of the same model. How about the opposite of Twilight…uh…the Dawn? Nah, too short. The Daybreak? Too lame. The Sunrise…the Sunrider! It would go along with Starkiller base also having an establish nounverber name from the SW universe. That’s it, i’ll call it the- what’s this? A cease and desist?! Never mind then.

I think a big part of the Force Awakens was the return to the falcon. From the moment it shot out of the sky in that first teaser, we were all hooked. The nostalgia worked in it’s favor imo, although now without Han it’s kinda just there because we have to keep it around… maybe it could be destroyed along with Han and Starkiller.

Instead, I think the Twilight would be better suited for the Prequels. But I have no idea how to pull it off.

I think Lando’s gonna get his ship back in the next flick.

The Prequels already have a main ship. Or many. It always has the same interior, but changes exteriors more often than a functional Tardis. I am referring of course to Padme’s ship(s). Ideally, I’d like her to just have one, but giving them all the same exterior is probably more trouble than it’s worth. I’m just gonna assume it’s the same ship with various redesigns over the years. I call it the Paradise, echoing the beauty of its home planet, its chrome polish, and the idealism of its owner. Really, its changing design is just a symptom of a wider problem of inconsistency with the prequels. Everyone and everything looks completely different in each film.

Anyway, this isn’t the thread for this.

I agree there’s a strong nostalgia factor with the Falcon that works phenomenally in TFA, but is just kinda there in TLJ. The reason I want to replace it with a ship like the Twilight is to give the trilogy its own identity. As it stands, it’s far too reliant on nostalgia and rehashing old ideas. This would be a step in the right direction.

Am I the only who feels like it isn’t really Star Wars without Palpatine pulling the strings? The thing is I can’t think of any way of bringing him back that doesn’t cheapen Vader’s redemption. The best I can think of is Palpatine survives the fall (he IS a Sith Lord, so I think it’s totally plausible), but is seriously injured, meaning Vader’s sacrifice still had an impact, causing Palpatine to remain in the Shadows for 30 years. Still, you can see how it devalues that moment in RotJ. The thing is, with Palpatine gone, everything else feels super post-script. Now that’s fine if you really want to tell a brand new unconnected story, but clearly they don’t. Besides, with both Palpatine and Snoke out of the picture, the trilogy just lacks any threatening villain at all.

If you absolutely must have Palpatine in some form, simply have his spirit (or the combined spirits of all murdered Sith) wander the galaxy after ROTJ before inhabiting Snoke sometime before TFA. Then when Kylo murders Snoke, he ‘inherits’ this Sith essence.

Yeah, I was considering that. The thing is I want to stay true to Lucas’s idea that Sith can’t become full Force ghosts, which makes for elegant irony. That said, TCW showed us the ghost of Darth Bane, proving that Sith can be become ghosts to an extent, they are simply bound to an object.

Also, Palpatine being a spirit would nicely mirror Yoda being a ghost, as I tend to view them as counterparts.

So yeah, I might go through with having Palpatine possess Snoke, but definitely not Kylo. That reminds me I saw a video once that proposed Snoke coming back in IX and being defeated for good by the combined power of all the Force ghosts. That’d be a cool way to end the saga, I think.

An old theory turned radical idea I had was for Snoke to claim to be Palpatine reborn, establishing the old villian once again as the big bad of the galaxy.

However, it would later be revealed that Snoke was actually an imposter who simply used the idea of Palpatine to gain power. He really has no force powers at all, like the wizard of oz. That would retain Vader’s sacrifice while Palpatine’s presence is felt throughout the saga.

I’d heard the Wizard of Oz Snoke theory/idea, but not with the Palpatine bit.

I’ll need time to think about whether this idea gives Palpatine the proper presence I want or not. Regardless, I think I prefer the spirit idea.
