The Sad State Of Star Wars — Page 4

yeah, me too. The thing is, I don't know any more SW fans now than i did back then with the excpetion of these boards.

And I like the EU to a point. I like the inner dialogue and that sorta thing. I only go for the older stuff though, and the stuff that comes after the OOT in terms of the EU books. I don't get into the comics and the Role-playing game can be fun.

How do ya feel about the live-action EU?

we'll have to wait and see. For now, my thought is that it's just a cash cow and that's all.

I mean what we currently have.

Which includes:

The Star Wars Holiday Special
Caravan of Courage
The Battle for Endor
Star Tours
Rebel Assault II cutscenes
Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II cutscenes
That board game with the live-action tape of Vader

I was into EU for a while myself, but there's just so much that I don't keep up with it anymore. I think for most people it's just easier to consider the films as all there is. It's much easier that way, and it should be all you need to be a Star Wars fan.

As per the original topic, I believe that Star Wars is in a sad state now. I really think that things like that and Star Trek should just be laid to rest. I mean, how many generations of Star Trek do we really need? How many different captains does the Enterprise need to have? Not every story needs to continue to probe and poke and prod. Do we need a sequel to Death of a Salesman, for example? Find out what happens to Willy Loman's grandkids! Uh-huh, yeah, sure. And there is a new American Pie movie coming out straight to DVD following the antics of Stifler's younger brother. There's always room to milk the cash cow as long as characters have younger relatives. Or any kind of relatives. Pass the torch off to somebody else. Doesn't matter if it is anything like the original as long as the main characters grandnephew and the series title is in it. Okay, I'm rambling now, but I'm tired. My point is, Star Wars should just end. That's it. The end. It shouldn't be tied to the cart and dragged through the dirt until there's nothing left of it.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Now THAT is pathetic and an unneeded sequel right there.

This article in the link below, which was just published on StarWars.com today, pretty much proves your point exactly, Cable X-1. StarWars.com basically spells it out for everyone. It's quite pathetic to read actually. Take a look:

That list was laughable........each response I had was..."Big Deal." Nothing on there is really mind blowing....including Episode 3. Every news item that SW.com puts out sounds like great corporate spin to me. Bottom line....they just want to part you with your money.

Sorry, not this OT fan.

Marketing. As you said, that's all their list is: self-promotion and over-gratification to Lucasfilm. That entire site is basically one huge commercial, which is pathetic. How sad that these kind of marketing-mided people are so representative of the Star Wars series. At least the guys who maintain the Star Trek site actually take more interest in their fans and exist for a purpose besides the $$$$. I mean, profit is very important, but they need to learn that there is more to it than that. Pablo Hidalgo and all of the "content supervisors" for StarWars.com are some of the most self-congratulatory motherfuckers I've ever seen. I really don't think it's people like Lucas who is so money-hungry. It's Jim Ward and company.

Does anyone remember the starwars website back in the early 90s? That was the most beatiful website ever made for the classic trilogy. It contained the scripts and beautifully arranged shot-compositions from the films. And the menu design was awesome.

Yes, it was awesome. It was before the dark times... before the "special editions". *sigh* I wish I would have had the foresight to download the entire page back then.

I would gladly part with my money for Star Wars stuff, if it was what I wanted. All they are offering is cheep crap and rendered OT DVDs. And most, if not ALL the toys are marketed from the PT. I see nothing from the OT out there. And believe me, I wanna by me a 12 inch Luke Skywalker actionfigure/doll. I already have Princess Leia and Han Solo. I should have bought that HUGE Luke on the Tauntaun toy back in 1997 when I saw it. But it was like $50 and to a 14 year old girl, that is a hell of a lot of money. So I just bought Leia for $20 instead. I don't regret it, but I wish I could have the chance to still pick up Luke. Sigh...

You DO NOT want to get me started on the "content supervisors" bullshit. I fucking HATE those people. The worst is the message board at starwars.com. I hate that overmoderated piece of shit board.

You can't say even the slightest negative thing or BAM...closed thread. You can't repeat anything either. It's the only board I know where they tell you not to post....but to read through the threads for what you want to post about....even if it's on like page 120 or something.

I was going to head over there and get myself permanently banned. Anyone have any ideas on what I should do? I don't want to spam or troll or anything. I just want one great post that causes me to get a permanent lifetime ban.

Basically say how much of a fool George Lucas is for not releasing the O-OT, and that anyone who buys in to his "this was my original vision all along" crap are bigger fools than him.

Also threaten the safety of anyone who thinks Lucas is a god, namely the mods at that stupid site. And Rick McCullen

If your going for a ban. You might as, well take advantage of the 7 day Hyperspace free trial(if you bought the ROTS DVD). Save a whole bunch of the video's to a CD, DVD or, harddrive. Then, on the seventh day make your post. The post might have to contain something about the Unaltered trilogy on DVD. Basically, the stuff Invader Jenny said might do it. Also, if you post something against the TOS should help.

What should I post about though....it has to be something incendiary, yet intelligent. I don't want to just post something that says, "fuck you" or anything. I want something with some flair and pinache. Something that will have steam coming out of the ears of the mods over there.....

Well, you can take some advice from me. Basically say anything about how much you hate the changes George Lucas has made to the OT and how he has basically turned into one insane crazed up fruit-loop in the past 9 years. When anyone disagrees with you, stand your ground and just keep posting your same message. I've been banned twice now from TF.n for that exact same thing in less than 32 hours. *giggle* If it works for those suckers, it will work 100% at the sissy boards over at starwars.com.

They must have heard a lot of bitching about it then.......it was a stupid move to turn it into a 2 inch line in the first place.

Oh well....I'm not buying anything either way. I'm through spending money on SW stuff. Just gonna do my own set of the movies and the soundtracks sans all the crap I don't want to see and I'll be a happy camper.

The only think I might relent on is the games.....but I will buy them second hand and that's a BIG "if" right now.
