The Rise of Skywalker: color grade changes on Disney+

Apparently Disney has silently updated TRoS to remove a large part of that green-blue grade over the entire film, according to a few articles and twitters:

Has anyone else with a Disney+ account been able to notice this?

It still looks heavily blue, but I’d be interested in seeing more comparisons.

Yeah I’d like to see some comparisons in motion. Not sure how accurate the screengrabs from that article are, but for reference here’s roughly the same from from TRoS: Ascendant

Fake news. The Blu Ray looks like the current version on D+. It’s not possible to compare with the old version, unless someone happened to use Anystream to archive a 720p copy.

The ‘too blue’ screencaps are from a 4K HDR blu-ray: HDR colour data doesn’t translate to non HDR screens, which gives them sickly or faded colours. The source of these screencaps are the first Google result for ‘The Rise of Skywalker screencaps’, so people who (for whatever reason), haven’t watched the movie since cinemas (and have seen these images widely-circulated) will give it another go on Disney+ and assume it’s been re-graded.

Just so weird there was such a buzz over… literally nothing.

Well Disney has been known to make edits to their streaming material after it has been released, so it’s not outside the bounds of reason.

IIRC “Maclunkey” just popped up out of nowhere. Like a pop star dropping a new album.

What is labeled as ORIGINAL in the first post is quite close to what the AMAZON WEB-DL version of the movie looks like - at least the early web-dl rip had these colors for sure. I immediately noticed the difference once I got the blu-ray and did my own comparisons long before the internet became aware of this issue. The blu-ray has always been exactly as blue as the second screencap, so it’s not an updated color grading.
