Lol I want to see it but the link doesn’t take me anywhere!

I could be talked into Vader’s TIE. I guess they’re both there ready to go wherever is decided.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently…

Hell yes!!!

Vader’s TIE!!! My prayers have been answered!!! 😊

All kidding aside, Poppasketti, you really didn’t have to listen to me, especially seeing as to how Hal never requested it to you.

Thanks again mate, not many people are as kind as you are!

Lol, it’s hard to deny the power of having that be the ship he uses, even if a shuttle seems more “”“realistic”"". Let’s toss it around but I’d be okay with it.

For now, here’s the best I could do with the audio for now, at least. It sucks because I have to fade out of the audio before the TIE sounds begin, which is a little different from each channel. Music fills the gap, then it has to transition into later in the track, then transition to the following scene’s audio.

It… sucks? A little bit. Anyone is of course welcome to give it a shot. it’s a first pass, and often a second or third can crack something. But it’s all I have time for for now!

Why are you saying it sucks? It’s great!

Of course it would be good to mess with it a bit, but for now it sounds good enough.

My preferred saga experience:
ANH (4K77), ESB (Harmy), ROTJ (4K83).
Everything else is optional.

I love it. So much.

That’s similar to what I’m doing in my edit. One recommendation I’d have is to, instead of using a wipe up, wipe from left to right matching the direction of the Falcon. This way the feather of the wipe is “following” the Falcon.

Author

I’ll try that. Since the first shot of the transition can be as long as it needs to be, there’s less of a need to follow the original wipe closely to minimize loss.

Yeah, I cut down the intro to Rey in my version a tiny bit to fit. I don’t even think I included a wipe at all, just cut from the nearly all black to a frame where the dark green of the leaf takes over the whole picture before that dolly in toward Rey.

What’s the audio track used in this scene. Cus i feel like it fades out to suddenly

That’s great Hal!

On another note, now that I think about it, in the theatrical cut, how on earth did all those TIEs fit through that tiny hole in the ice?

Makes sense when you don’t think about it … much like the movie …

It’s “Falcon Flight.” I used the portion aligned with the burst through the ice wall and the portion that aligns with the transition to the next scene.

So it transitions from the film audio into the matching portion of the soundtrack to avoid TIE sounds, then into a later portion of the same music that aligns to what is being transitioned into, then into the next scene’s audio.

The issue is that the music goes right into peppy action time right after the ice wall thing, when in this context it should linger and serve as an end to the scene.

Just thought I should let Poppasketti know that the shot of Vader’s TIE next to Luke’s X-wing is my new desktop wallpaper. 😉

As for convincing Hal to use it as well, whilst the Empire did construct more of them just not in mass amounts, it can probably be assumed that the actual TIE belonging to Vader WAS present on the Death Star II, as it was never destroyed following Yavin and Vader could have just parked it in a hanger somewhere during one of his frequent visits to the station.

Additionally, Kylo has a lust for Vader artifacts and probably saw it sitting somewhere and said to himself, “How could I not take that baby out for a spin?!”

Finally, the entire point of that shot was to be a cheap nostagia grab to make us smile, (it certainly made my brother smile when he saw it!) Vader’s TIE chasing Luke’s X-wing is arguably one of the most iconic pieces of imagery in the original Star Wars. The shuttle inclusion whilst still looking great, don’t get me wrong, makes the entire shot make little sense in being framed in such a way. Choosing it is choosing a minor nitpick on practicality over an incredible visual spectacle. The Imperial shuttle wasn’t shown until ROTJ and even than, it made little impact visually.

But you know, that’s just my opinion. 😄

I don’t think Vader’s TIE really works. The idea that it was sitting on Death Star II and happened to survive intact along with the radar dish and the throne room stretches my suspension of disbelief. Plus, shouldn’t the redeemed Ben be moving away from his obsession with Vader iconography? I would prefer the shuttle personally.

We saw Vader arrive on the DSII in a shuttle, and he hasn’t been seen using his TIE since ANH. I know “realism” isn’t this movie’s strong suit anyway, but the shuttle just seems to make more sense.

Believe me, I’d have way too much fun with random branching if it were trivially easy to set up.

Wow I haven’t really got to check in with the forum today due to work but damn, first @poppasketti that was hilarious man, well done for all of those.

@Hal, that edit was pretty sick… you said it sucked but that was freaking awesome man! Quality of that fidelity would have taken me quite a few attempts to achieve.

And finally, yeah I love the idea of the visual of Vader’s Tie being in the shot but I felt like the shuttle worked much better just for the fact that we saw it when Rey was getting to the Treasure Room of the Death Star II… Either way, y’all have done some fantastic work and I am in awe by how much more I am enjoying Episode IX just being in this forum discussing it with you all. It 's cool just even seeing the process of what a fan edit looks like and getting to chat with you all.

The audio feels pretty ugly to me; are you guys listening with earphones?

Does anyone have any sound effects laying around that could depict bursting through the ice wall, maybe some shimmer or WOOoooosh of trailing off into hyperspace? If foley can be identified the music wouldn’t be as problematic. (This is the kind of thing I’d spend an hour doing myself if I were able. Getting audio to feel right really does take patience. I may be able to at some point but I toss out my thought process in case anyone does come across something suitable.)

And kewlfish, it’s good to have you here! It’s a weird, arguably stupid thing we do around here but we… we like it. At least the 9000 saga will go out on a high note. And then I can get stabbed by Vader.

You remember that episode of Star Trek where Kirk was split into a good half and an evil half?

I’m the half that was benevolent but indecisive. Since there’s been so much interest and things done, I guess I gotta be directive.

I like both of those options a lot. The Vader TIE says sometime but doesn’t make any sense, whereas the shuttle is less meaningful but goes further to reducing the “not making sense” aspect of the original shot. The original TIE wasn’t really meaningful anyway, they just showed us something common that Kylo found that was flyable.

Does anyone have a working link to poppasketti’s fun TIE replacements? I’d like to see them.

Thanks Hal! But I listened with headphones and even then I couldn’t hear any abnormalities… did you change song/motif that accompanied this scene… it felt quite different, in a good way of course. The only thing that I could even think of would be having some sort of establishing shot for Ajan Kloss… but audio wise it felt pretty natural to me

Edit: And Hal, something happened to Poppa’s link with all of the joke ships in the background but it looks like Poppa put a clip of his Vader shot in their Master Drive.

Well that’s good, I guess. I wish I could make that last note of triumph after the ice wall hold a bit longer, as would’ve been the case if that was the scene’s end. The TIE sound starts to build before it crosses over, and it abruptly loses the sort of rumble effect the foley had.

It’s weird, when I woke up I saw the shuttle and Vader’s TIE shots on his Google drive, but the Vimeo link with all the joke shots was busted so I never got to see any of them. 😦

Nope. Have to disagree. As Rich Evans describes Abrams:
“His whole thing is feeling over sensible plotting.”

Well what’s the TIE convey? That he used a bad guy ship to fly out of his own bad guy persona’s gravesite? Or that it pairs with its good counterpart (the X-wing)?

Vader’s TIE says he is reclaiming something of Vader’s to put to good use, similarly to Anakin’s saber a little later.

The shuttle is just plausible, and has hyperdrive that a TIE like that wouldn’t. It makes sense for that setting. And in the shot it contrasts with the small X-wing like he had to hijack a bus or something to get there.

The insufferable nerd in me insists the shuttle is the better choice, as using Vader’s TIE trades one issue for another and grabs your attention to make you wonder how likely it would be for Vader’s TIE to even be there rather than whispering subtly about regular TIEs not being able to fly through hyperspace.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently…

As much as I did enjoy TFA being “safe” in some respects, I am suddenly getting the vibe on JJ’s rational on why the heroes could see the planets being all destroyed in the sky …
