I have a few suggestions, sorry if others have already mentioned them.

  • Reduce Lando’s excessive laugh at the final battle
  • Remove Finn’s line “You did it Lando! You did it!”
  • Change super happy music when the thousands of ships arrive. It should be more inspirational and maybe triumphant. (not sure if that’s the word I am after)
  • Remove Chewie getting the medal (this was only inserted as fan service, Chewie would probably have forgotten about this and they could easily add him getting a medal in A New Hope like Adywan did).
  • Reduce the clip of Palpatine burning from the deflected force lightning (doesn’t suit a SW movie IMO)
  • consider adding “Across the Stars” to when Kylo and Rey kiss
  • slow down ben falling back after the kiss so it looks like Rey is helping him

I have so many but I’m thinking of doing an edit of this one day myself. Can’t give you all of my secrets. 😛

Adywan’s Star Wars Revisited edits are to Blade Runner: The Final Cut as the original theatrical releases of the original trilogy are to the original version of Blade Runner.

@Poppasketti Do you plan on making a Rekindled version of The Rise of Skywalker that would use Hal’s ideas while adding your own, similar to your edit for The Last Jedi?

Some good ideas! I’ve clipped them for now and I’ll see how they shape up whenever it’s go-time. Much appreciated. I probably will keep Chewie bring given his medal though, since we see Leia holding it as she lays down, so it seems fitting in-universe to give it to him. I didn’t realize this on first viewing, so I hope to work in the close up shot of the medal from the trailer.

And yeah, Finn has so many moments that made me want to laugh. He’s hilarious! “Lando, you did it! You DIDDIT!!!”

“They got Chewie! …—they got ‘im!!”

Also, I seem to recall Lando hooping or laughing while he flew to go save Finn. Didn’t really seem like a laughing occasion.

OP updated with current list of ideas.

-Is there a chance to put the trailer version of duels of fate in the death star fight? it was promised in the interviews and trailers but we never got that…

-Is posible to make the Ahch-To scene the third lesson?

Author

I’m not aware of any audio of Luke talking about a third lesson, but if something like that should surface somehow I’d be up for it.

And yeah, I had the same idea of hinting at Duel of the Fates, but didn’t write it down. I’ll add that!

Thanks for updating the OP, I like the list! Of course for the sake of discussion and thinking/mauling over these ideas for the next several months to try and incorporate all/most of those ideas, I am curious about working around this one:

'Possibly remove the destruction of the planet, and the idea that the fleet each has a ‘gun that shoots Death Stars.’

The tough part is the way they defeat the destroyers is by targeting those big ole guns attached to those destroyers. Without understanding the significants of those guns and the power they use, then how would targeting them destroy the entire ship.

If the thinking is “Well, they are just big guns like the Dreadnaught in TLJ, we can pretend it’s something like that!” The issue with that then is “Ok, then why didn’t Poe target the big guns on that back in TLJ to take the whole thing down!” Because … that wouldn’t cause a huge chain reaction like a ship that can destroy a whole planet!

Anyway, just thinking out loud!

Yeah. Just an idea, but may be a pipe dream.

Blowing up planets completely falls flat for me after Alderaan. Did with TFA, and certainly did here.

Same, alderaan was important to Leia because it was her home so the audience could get behind that, but those planets in TFA and TROS? why the audience should care about those? what is worse that Zori didn’t care about kijimi either, nothing of value was lost to the audience or the characters when the planet exploded.

and Another idea for the edit

Would be possible to leave Chewie “dead” little longer? the reveal of him being alive was so close to his “death” that it felt dumb and cheap.

Author
Time

I don’t disagree since Alderaan was the impactful one since it was “personal” for a character. Plus, yes, we get it, the bad guys like to blow up planet.

On the other hand, I understand why they want to use that since what is scarier than a power that can destroy whole planets in ease? I get it has been used so much, but what else can raise the stakes?

In Marvel, who is scarier? Thanos with the Gauntlet who can snap his finger and destroy half the life in the Universe or Sandman?

Again just thinking out loud and am not saying yes or no to anything really, just making sure all points are covered!

As for the Chewy thing … that was way too fast, I agree! Would simply removing the scene we first see him with Hux and Pryd suffice? Or, to keep that, would moving that AFTER Rey senses Chewy? That way the reveal is Rey sensing Chewy and we get confirmation a little after that?

Right now, I have no plans to, though anything’s possible. My hope is to join the others here and help Hal with ideas and/or FX work!

I agree with jarbear about moving the Chewy scene after Rey’s senses he’s alive. I’m not sure if you can cut it entirely, though. Wasn’t there some important dagger exposition there? I could be mis-remembering.

I hope it’s alright I’m posting so much! I just can’t stop thinking about this movie… I’ll just continue to throw out my ideas - take 'em or leave 'em.

A recent Reddit post (I think you’ve read it) hinted at the possibility of additional locations originally existing during the lightspeed skipping. If these were released as a deleted scene, would you consider keeping the skipping? I don’t love the scene per se, but I appreciate that it’s one of very few things that wasn’t retconned from TLJ. Honestly, I’m at the point where anything that makes this trilogy seem cohesive is a positive.

Also, I don’t mind Rey mentioning the sinking fields since it’s a reference to TFA, but maybe there’s already too many references to that movie.

That’s a good point about the sinking fields.

and I really hope to remove lightspeed skipping, even if their reference to it has to remain. One could assume it means something else. adding additional planets would make even less sense. Hyperspace travel is not instantaneous, so lightspeed skipping the way the movie the pics it to me and he just skips along in the same section of space. If I skip rocks on the surface of a pond, the rock doesn’t bounce around to New York, Paris, or Tokyo.

I don’t think removing it will have anything to do with reckoning the last movie, because in that movie it required a large device on board an enormous capital ship to function.

Good point! Hadn’t considered that. It’s a cool visual but if you think too much about it the logic totally falls apart.

At this point in my ROTJ project I’m starting to lean toward going with the Yub Nub ending. It makes that film seem less final, and TROS apes its galactic montage.

If so, it seems like we could add one or more planets to this film’s little montage. Just get a plate and mask in Star destroyer blowing up. As it stands we see destroyers (presumably regular First Order destroyers since the Sith fleet never left Exogol) falling over Bespin, Endor, and Jakku.

If this should feel like putting a bow on the saga, probably best to go with at least one planet that appears in each trilogy. It doesn’t seem like Jakku would have people local to risk lives fighting the FO. I have a similar complaint as I do about Tatooine celebrating the defeat of the Empire with such fervor.

What about just replacing Jakku with Naboo? Just find a background plate from somewhere and add the destroyed destroyer in the sky. Come to think of it, maybe the establishing shot that follows the Vader “nooooo” moment in ROTS.

My only issue with removing the Jakku is that without it there are no planets representing the sequel trilogy. Personally I would’ve liked to see Canto Bight added on top of the existing ones, and a prequel planet like Naboo or Coruscant.

As for ROTJ, have you tried removing the Galaxy celebration scenes but keeping the SE music track? Maybe it’s because I grew up with the SE but I prefer the newer John Williams track to Yub Nub.

A planet per trilogy is a good idea. Naboo is a great choice since the Saga begins with Naboo. We got Endor for the True Trilogy TM. I can’t recal, asides from Jakku was there another planet shown for the Sequel planets? I don’t recall, I just remember Endor and Jakku.

Here’s a bone headed idea. Obviously the crawl would have to be different and not reveal Palpatines survival, but… and hear me out.

We open up on the Falcon in flight to get information from Boolio, that whole scene plays out. Then we move to Rey training and that whole scene plays out and the change comes when Kylo is reaching out to her in the force.

Kylo reaches out and we get all of the flashes with some added TLJ Luke in there, then it smooths out and we see an editing version of Kylo’s excursion to Exegol. This way the reveal is for later in the film, but we still get to see it right before Poe informs the Resistence.

It makes sense also for Kylo to flash images of the Emporer to Rey since he is trying his best to manipulate her to the best of his ability, doing this would set her on edge at an earlier point.

I just like the idea of opening up on the Falcon too

It’s hard for me to size up that idea at this point, so I probably won’t be able to comment until it hits BluRay. And when we see what deleted scenes we have to work with.

I think this is one of those films that needs a “not so gentle restructure”

Author
Time

Thinking earlier about the light skipping … I am curious about re-watching the whole exchange with Rey and Poe if you can cut those section out seamlessly.

So for example, when the Falcon breaks through the ice, you can then cut to Rey instead of having the light skipping scenes (Plus the Special Forces Ties able to “chase” them in Lightspeed. I am not saying those specialized TIES can’t have hyperdrives, but the whole chasing them thing was too much.)

They could essentially be arguing about how Poe is basically beating up the ship. I don’t know the dialogue, but all those “Ship terms” could be used since it can be applied to the handling of the ship … especially breaking through the ice!

Author
Time

Rey definitely says something like “Did you light speed skip the falcon? You light speed skipped the Falcon?!” While Poe is interjecting about the damage to BB-8. If you cut after they burst through the ice, as jarbear suggests, that could pass off as “light speed skipping”. The argument moves pretty fast, too, so you won’t have a lot of time too think about it!

Author
Time

That’s what I was thinking. You could cut the light skipping scene, but keep the reference to it and we could assume it is a new risky method to avoid hyperspace tracking.

Author
Time

Exactly. For bonus points we can remove the TIEs tracking then, because in TLJ it required a huge device onboard a capital ship to track them. But if we do see them jump, we can infer light speed skipping to just be… something that actually makes sense rather than teleporting randomly throughout the galaxy near exciting things. Maybe just jumping in a straight path quickly, like the term sounds like.
