PM sent.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

Just got around to watching v5. Gotta say, I was kinda against the AI voices in the previous versions (and still kinda feel uneasy in principle, even though no one is losing work over it here), but v5 really pulled it off. Luke’s scene on Ach-To in particular is terrific; I can’t honestly say I would have caught the difference if I had seen it before the theatrical version.

Also still amazed at the visual effects work done for this project. Mustafar and Coruscant, the crackling saber, the puppet show, the sacred text healing illustration, and of course the most crucial part of the film, Mark Hamill’s horrendous wig! This whole thing really is something amazing.

Still hope against all logic and reason that anyone at Disney is a big enough Star Wars fan to release the deleted scenes some day…

The best we can hope for is that they consider releasing them with like the 10 or 20 year anniversary of the movie or something. But obviously that’s both a long shot and will take a long while.

Crazy to think that we’re two months away from the 5th anniversary…

Hi,
I’m new to these edits, only just came to my attention after realising that it’s been 5 years since me and my family went to see The Rise of Skywalker at an IMAX and came away disappointed.
My kids grew up on the Despecialized trilogy and loved them. I want to watch Rise with them again, but do I need to see a different version of Force Awakens and The Last Jedi for the Ascendant edit to work?
Thanks

In my opinion, no; the theatrical cuts of The Force Awakens (TFA) and The Last Jedi (TLJ) work with the Ascendant edit. HAL’s edits on them are more conservative, where the TFA has a restructured ending, moving the destruction of the New Republic capital to the finale. He also has trimmed some of the humour. But essentially, there are no major changes that alter how they fit together.

You could swap any of my sequel trilogy projects into an otherwise-theatrical watch and be just fine. And TROS would be the one to do!

Great. Thanks. Any chance on getting a link to the edit please?

I will say that it’s worth seeing TFA: Starlight, if you haven’t. It makes the movie feel like a dark inverse of ANH instead of a direct ripoff, which is at least more clever. I feel it also foreshadows TROS better.

There aren’t necessarily many edits of TLJ on this forum that I’d think are strictly preferable to the original. There are some real improvements, sure, but if you didn’t like the original movie it isn’t going to salvage it. That is, unless you enjoy the Caretaker Village sequence explaining Luke’s philosophy. Watch that on YouTube, if you haven’t.

Thanks for that, I’d never heard of that deleted scene. The more I Watch TLJ the more I enjoy it, apart from the Canto Bight sequences.

In that case, I’d suggest TFA: Starlight, TLJ: Legendary (mine), and TROS: Ascendant (mine). Sending you links.

My preferred order at the moment is TFA: Starlight, TLJ: Rekindled and TROS: Ascendant (yours). That may change when Jar Jar Bricks and sherlockpotter release their versions, which will no doubt force me to choose between the two haha.

Het there! It’s been a while since I’ve replied here on the thread. I just noticed that the color grade LUT for Exegol hasn’t been applied during the film’s climax in V5. Is there any reason why that is?

If true, a mistake. At what point do you notice it’s not there? Like what part of the movie?

Hard to say. I can’t exactly remember the original look of the Blu-ray, but I did wonder why Exegol was looking very blue in the end than gray. I think it’s when Rey arrives in the X-wing up to when the fleet arrives. It might be best to double check the sequence when the Ghosts arrive, because the LUT is there after Palpatine is dead.

I’ll take a look when I can, thanks for pointing it out.

any update on the Rey Nobody version?

It looks like the color correction hasn’t been applied during the opening scenes on Ajan Kloss yet either. Same with the Falcon’s mission. Might be best to go through V5 and color correct it with the LUTs again.

Still haven’t even had a chance to check, but hopefully it just doesn’t look like it but I’ll confirm! Thank you.
