[Rey being a] Palpatine at all feels wrong.

Conceptually I think including Ben works fine, but yeah, that particular clip of it isn’t quite polished to the degree that I think it would need to be included.
Very diplomatically said. I would have said Ben looks like a hobbit on his way to Mordor in the tests being released. TROS already has one hobbit, it doesn’t need another lol. I know Hal said Ben’s ghost looks ok but every idea here seems to go through the ringer except this one which is just going through as-is… no bueno. The footage used for Ben was chosen because he was smiling but the composition with added hair, etc increases the cartoonishness. The Luke and Leia force ghosts look slightly strange and Ben looks very weird. I would prefer to see if jonh has time to redo them all correctly.
Uh…you saw the part where the Ben thing was snagged from someone else’s video as proof of concept of adding Ben, right? As in, that shot would be redone from scratch rather than just using the thing Poppasketti grabbed from someone else’s edit. That’s why I so “diplomatically” worded it - not to spare Poppasketti’s feelings, but because he outright stated that Ben wasn’t his work (in fact, he erased Anakin from the shot!)

I don’t think the film really needs a title change even if you cut Rey Skywalker. It’s not a title with just one meaning.

Wow, that spurred a lot of discussion. I’m glad there’s some potential here! When I get another chance, I’ll work on adjusting the falcon some more (thickening a bit more, darkening it, and toning down the blue… etc).

This was dropped in as a proof of concept, not as an actual proposed shot. I agree that there is no way the footage used for the mockup will work as-is.
I’ll put the word placeholder on the shot now so there’s no confusion.

It would require changing or extending the music, but I wonder if, for the “Just Rey” version of the ending, you could have Ben appear to Rey alone when she is mulling over how to reply to the old woman, but then have Luke and Leia join him in an additional shot while the Falcon takes off. I feel like that would keep it from feeling like she’s “rejecting” their name while still allowing all of them to have a presence.

I mean, I welcome trying to get a Ben ghost to look great. He certainly should wear something befitting a redeemed Jedi, maybe something like he wore in the TLJ flashback. Luke and Leia seem happy, and he should seem happy, too.
I don’t really get why he wasn’t there in the movie, maybe just because they want to focus on the twins? But, like, why, though? It’s more about Rey and Ben than the two of them. I guess that’s just par for the course at that point.
JEDIT: I posted this before seeing Jonh’s post above. Nice, dude! It looks like his senior photo or something! And that’s not a bad thing!

yeah I knew from the get go the Ben fx was not done by poppasketti. thanks for clarifying though. I’d love to see what anyone can do to replace and improve the Luke and Leia force ghosts as well.

jonh amazing how you’ve quickly managed to match the look of Luke and Leia ghosts. I would rather see what you would do to replace them all in your own style (not the weird 1960’s retro-ghosts). But I definitely don’t want to interfere with the release of the final Rey-Palpatine fight sequence, or did I somehow miss that too?

Wow! Yes jonh! Does Driver with a goatee make sense in this context (would certainly work for an aged-up Ben!)? I say that not as criticism but because there’s a host more Adam Driver footage on the internet with a goatee and that would increase the pool of shots!

Octorox they remind me of an airbrushed late 60’s / early 70’s mural on the side of a Scooby doo van. Luke looks like a hippy pothead, not like himself. And they look nothing like the past force ghosts from the other films.
The transparent Leia someone made a recent test with looks better than this Hare Krishna Leia.

I don’t see any reason to mess with Luke and Leia. The Jedi ghost thing seems to be less of a ‘true essence’ and more like ‘hey wow I found a way to teleport into ghost world and stop aging from where I was.’ Hayden-ghost notwithstanding.

I and others would be interested to see what jonh could put together to replace Luke and Leia. The worst thing that would happen is the faneditors would say, no I like them better in the original and not use it in their edit. But if Hal doesn’t want to look at it we should move the topic off his thread.
