Can I see it?
Anybody?
Edit: Ha! Hal beat me to it. Glad we’re on the same page.

One thing I just noticed - the scene has a lot less yellow than the surrounding shots, does it look that way on the timeline as well?

Yeah, I believe I was given a version of the film/edit that had already been color corrected. It looks like the first few shots of that video are the film’s original color.
EDIT: Can’t believe you both thought of Steamed Hams.
It was a while ago when I sent it but I usually only work on the original colour footage. Apologies if I slipped up. A colour match LUT should help bring it back?

Not sure how that happened either. Did I send you the footage? Who knows.
I can always just NOT apply the LUT when I do the final pass and get to those shots and eyeball it for consistency at that point.
And yeah man, poppasketti! You steam a good ham.

If the forest is now meant to be behind Fortress Vader, doesn’t that mess continuity with the shot MR did that adds the castle behind Kylo as he picks up the Wayfinder?

If we’re talking about the original 4K clip that I found, I believe that one matched the original Bluray colors. But maybe there had been color corrections added to it since? I guess it doesn’t matter, as long as everything matches in the final version.
As I said in our PM, it’s very much okay.
If anyone is in a position to add TIEs to that shot to match the audio, feel free. Any speck removal can be done to the resultant footage, so no need to wait.
The link again is: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MRUglJE0jJH57_tJFMYWTDS95KStwtSJ/view?usp=sharing
Granted the addition of TIEs would be great, but would it be possible to just move the sound to the very end of the biomes shot to act as a bridge between that and the TIE forest flyover?
If we can’t get the actual TIEs into the shot, I think the sounds should be softer. Right now, it sounds like they’re right in front of the camera; whereas realistically, they’d be pretty far away. On that note, if the ships can be added, the sound might have to be adjusted to match - for example, fading it out as they get further away.
You know, after looking at the sequence 40 million times, does the forest shot look a little more - I dunno, orangey? - than the castle shot? Like, the smoke and clouds in the castle shot are on the greyish end, whereas the forest-shot clouds and the sky in the Kylo shot are a bit more colorful.
I say this after watching the scene I don’t know how many times, and also on a screen that doesn’t have the best colors in the first place, so take it with a grain of salt.
So, just to recap, my remaining jobs are:
- Export “I am a Jedi” current audio
- Try one last idea with the “I am a Jedi” line and present it here for consideration
- Finish the Jedi Voices scene.
Can’t wait to see it, Cap! (And to get a hold of your “I am a Jedi.” *cough* 😉)

ahem This almost makes me feel tempted to play V1 back on my desktop, and either pay no attention to it while I keep myself busy with other things, or sit down and watch it all the way through to the end. 🙃

I would think that would be perfect continuity, no? They’re going deeper and deeper into the forest to get the Wayfinder, and when he gets it you can see the castle behind him in the distance.

+1
That was my exact interpretation when I watched it.
The way I saw it was, The forest becomes more dense the further away from the castle hence the other Volcanic shot I shared that Nev colour corrected to show the transition. Is that being used in this edit?

Well, I still do rather like the three-shot version. (Volcano drone footage > Vader’s Castle from Rogue One with TIEs added > TIEs over forest)
In a version using Nev’s new Biomes footage, it would be two shots: Vader’s Castle from Biomes > TIEs over forest.
It might even be all right to go with: Volcano drone footage > Vader’s Castle from Biomes > TIEs over forest. But you’d only have time to see the front or side of the castle. (The music has dictated the pace of the added footage from the beginning. I synced the soundtrack to where the music is when we see Kylo and extended it backward.)

I think I might prefer the third option overall.

Yep, the TIEs over forest shot is brighter and more orange than the surrounding footage, at least the shots before and after it. I tried to correct the Biomes shot to the more pinkish color of the planet and the dominant colors in the Kylo fighting shot, but the forest does throw that a bit.

And even so, I think it’s one of many things that probably would’ve been just fine if it had been part of the movie to begin with.

Hey everyone,
Well, I managed to find some time last night to at least get a first pass out!

I sent over the project files to Nev (including C4D files and models) so he can integrate any color correction or other tweaks he’d like to make.
Brilliant! It looks perfect to me as-is.

The front of the castle faces the edge of a large cliff. In MR’s shot you see the front of the castle towering in the distance so the forest would be somewhere below the cliff. Nev’s shot would place the forest behind the castle instead, from that perspective the back of the castle would be visible, not the front.

Oooooooooh my God. Astounding! It’s a really cinematic look! Spooky, even. What joy.
I know what it takes for you to carve out an hour (or maybe not even), so thank you greatly. Hope your wife appreciates it; she should be proud.

Ah I see what you mean now. You’re right, it should theoretically be the back of the castle. Thing is, that might not be as recognizable as the front is. So maybe logic should be abandoned here for something that catches your eye instead.
Dang, that’s a nice shot Poppa.

Great work, looks absolutely perfect. Such a small detail but could we possibly remove Director Krennic’s shuttle? It’s parked just outside the castle, I may be able todo it if someone sends me the footage.

Are you kidding me? You just “managed to find some time” and it’s perfect? We’d just have to fiddle with the sound effects to sync them to the flight path.
@Burbin, what does the back of the castle look like? Has it ever been shown?
The Rise of Skywalker: Untold - A “Rey Nobody” edit of Ep. IX - Coming Soon
Yeah, is the silhouette we see in MR’s shots where it’s added to the background not passable as the back?
And if poppasketti exports his work as ProRes (or whatever), we could then see about other things like Krennic’s shuttle or what have you.
Maybe turn the shuttle into Vader’s TIE. Ha!
