Not sure if the graffiti is still a go but a simple idea for it would be: Take a vector of a trooper helmet, make it into the format of a poster and overlap a rebel insignia over it and make it look freshly sprayed.

Its probably been thought up by someone in the thread but just incase it hasn’t I’ll mention it

What exactly are you waiting to do, HAL?

It’s all the “waiting on others” stuff in the OP, right? And the handful of things that are “maybes” that he’s thinking on?

SO EXCITED for the new version. The amount of work that’s gone into this film to get it from a “WTF” watch, to pretty damn good is staggering.

Regarding Kylo watching Ochi’s ship take off. I like the idea in theory, it’s an “Oh shit, they’re getting away!” kind of moment, but… why not just pull them towards himself?

Author

Is he specifically not pulling them in because the knights are on their asses anyway and they end up leading the FO to Kijimi?

reylo?

He already accomplished what he set out to do there: make Rey lose control. Now he wants Rey to be alone long enough to wallow in that misery, so that she accepts him later on or straight up goes to him herself.

And yeah, the Knights were also in charge of tracking them.

What is Kylo trying to achieve in the tug of war, anyway? Presumably he’d like the troop carrier to be able to fly off. Despite this, he appears to be also trying to pull it towards the ground, like Rey is, just in a different direction. I suppose the whole ‘trying to push Rey’ thing covers it - but that explanation comes later in the movie, so in the actual moment it just seems strange.

It’s called retrospect. It’s like how something seems strange at first and the movie isn’t complete yet and you’re hoping for it to make sense by the end of it, but a later moment retroactively makes it better.

I always interpreted it as Kylo being blinded by his emotions, almost like a little kid - Rey wants the transport, so Kylo doesn’t want her to have it.

There’s one more thing in the crawl that I don’t think has been discussed yet, but I’ve noticed it on my first watch of V1.

In the line “Meanwhile, Supreme Leader Kylo Ren has traveled to Mustafar (…)” the word “traveled” is American English spelling. British English spelling is normally “travelled”.

I’m not sure about Hal’s other edits, but unless I’m mistaken, all theatrical Star Wars crawls have specifically avoided this problem by not using any such words.

If you’re editing the crawl, perhaps it makes sense to use another word here too e.g. “flied” or “journeyed”.

Yes, that’s what I meant when I mentioned it, Testing. Thank you for your input.

Yeah, I suppose that works. Kylo generally strikes me as a bit less madly angry in TROS than he was in the last two movies, but he does still choke that guy and behead Boolio etc. so clearly the blinding temper is still there below the immediate surface.

Hmm, interesting point. I think ‘traveled’ sounds more natural than those two synonyms but if it can be worded equally well I’d be okay with a change in vocabulary.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Hey HAL, I was just wondering — why did you change Ben’s mode of transport in the climax? 🤔

Oh, I can answer that! Previous stuff has established that standard TIE fighters don’t have hyperdrives.

The supplimental stuff retcons that this specific TIE is an experimental TIE scout with a hyperdrive, but that’s clearly a post-facto rationalization.

Hence, swapping it for something that DOES have a hyperdrive.

I see. But I don’t think the original film explains how he got off the Death Star ruins. 🤨

I like the sound of journeyed, but I guess that does sound a little too fancy.

What you could always do is also change out the “to” before “Mustafar” for more freedom of vocabulary. Example: “Meanwhile, Supreme Leader Kylo Ren has arrived on Mustafar”.

Here’s the exact definition of arrived from Google: “reach a place at the end of a journey or a stage in a journey.”

Nope it doesn’t. So Vader’s TIE / the Lambda shuttle are good balance points between plausible (both with hyperdrive and could be found among the wreckage) and recognizable (for the shot to retain its symbolism).

I mean, it’s clearly meant to be that he salvaged a TIE. I don’t really think it needs to explain more than that; the problem here is that they chose a TIE that doesn’t make any sense, not that the movie lets you realize he salvaged a TIE on your own.

Right. Let’s leave it at that, then.

+1 to either idea.

“has journeyed” might sound a bit too verbose, I think simply “Supreme Leader Kylo Ren journeys to Mustafar” would work, and imo it sounds better than “has traveled” which always felt a bit dry to me.

The new crawl itself sound very weird to me. Like my brain has this very weird, very strange feeling every time I read it.

I wrote a new crawl, taking ideas from another I’ve seen on Reddit while also preserving part of a line from the Ascendant crawl. I’ve pitched it before, but let’s revisit it, shall we?

The flame of hope burns! Following the heroic sacrifice of Luke Skywalker on Crait, the daring Resistance has been reborn. The diabolical First Order, facing insurrection on a thousand worlds, is nearing collapse.

But a mysterious message has been transmitted across the known galaxy. A threat of revenge, rumored to be from someone from the wars of old, hiding within the unknown!

Determined to annihilate this threat to his failing rule, Supreme Leader Kylo Ren is chasing whispers of an ancient ARTIFACT, certain it would lead him to the very source of the broadcast…

(I’m fine with the broadcast. It displays Palpatine’s overconfidence, gives Kylo a motive for getting the Wayfinder and adds weight to the Resistance briefing scene when Palps’ survival is confirmed. And sadly, this requires removing the Fortnite broadcast addition, sorry…)

Is the “silencing” thing necessary for the edit?

Any reason why Sir_Ridley didn’t bother capitalising any of the words in his revised opening crawl? 🤔
