Building off of what jarbear said - I think with Han, Han was always kind of snarky and cranky to everyone, and you could tell that 3PO in particular actively annoyed him (cockblocking him with Leia, complaining about his flying). With the new gang, it just feels like they don’t care about him either way. Like, Han treated him like an annoying coworker - he was still a presence with a personality; the Trio just treats him like a soulless machine.

That said, I can’t think of any moment that really seems as callous as when they decide to go to Kijimi. If anyone else is interested, it may be worth it to try and play with that scene, see if anything can be done.

I’ve gotten several requests today for links to this project, probably from that video.

Well done. I will disengage self-destruct initiative.

Yeah, they’re probably gonna start coming in quite a bit now.

It seems weird for the video to skip over Adywan. I suppose The Phantom Edit and TROS: Ascendant make for a nice contrast in terms of “then and now” bookending the Star Wars saga.

It really feels out of character how callous Poe is towards 3PO and even “cone face”, compared to how he treats BB-8 in the previous movies. Though to be fair he’s mean to Finn and Rey aswell and just acts annoyed throughout the whole movie, he honestly just feels like a different character. I get he’s supposed to be struggling with the weight of becoming Leia’s succesor and leading the Resistance, but we don’t really get enough of that throughout the film to justify his behaviour, and his character doesn’t really change in any meaningful way, there’s no character arc where he learns to be a leader (there was in TLJ but I guess he kinda forgot), Lando is the one who ends up unifying the galaxy off screen while Poe just jumps in an X-wing and blows something up.

Here’s the official/canon explanation for his behavior from the novelization (although I know most here don’t care for that):

Poe stepped into the hold from the cockpit. His face was haggard, but he seemed as determined as ever. He’d been so serious lately, often on the verge of anger ever since Crait. He felt responsible for the decimation of Resistance, Rey knew. She understood what that was like, and braced herself. She wasn’t going to blame him one bit for laying into her; she was just going to take it.

So the impression I’m getting is that he was angry at himself and taking it out on others - and droids were prime targets.

Yeah, 3PO is treated like dirt in this movie by the main characters. I dunno, it just felt different coming from Han or something.

And I enjoyed the video; very fair glimpse into the world of fan editing. And of course I felt proud of what you all have put together with Ascendant as it was mentioned at the end.

Probably feels different since it really came from ONE character in the OT, who’s personality and reactions to things made it at least “make sense,” but this one it’s the whole crew like that … it makes it … obnoxious and off putting to be blunt. They ACTIVELY did not care and were ok with him “sacrificing,” so if it was ESB, they may NOT have repaired C3P0 like Chewy did. Lol.

Probably feels different because you saw it as a kid and are used to it.

I watching this recently and I felt the transition straight cut after Rey saying “Yes Master.” to just seeing the Hyperspace felt unnatural. I feel the most Star Wars thing would’ve been to have a transition and in my head I think a circle going outward transition (though it doesn’t have to be that particular one I just feel with Hyperspace being shown it be the most natural one to use) to be a natural way to have that nice flow instead of a straight cut. It just feels abrupt and awkward to me where a transition would flow like any Star Wars movie would set up the Leia’s Mission part of the story. With how that shot holds on Rey’s face for a brief moment I feel it would work.

All my life as I looked away to the future, to the horizon. Never in my mind did I know where I was, what I was doing.

I will write down for me to give that a try and see what I think about it.

Hmmm, interesting and wonder how that would work since it is kinda a “quick cut” which maybe would help blend things in maybe?

I have no idea but no harm in trying. Whenever I can get back into it. Still too busy for right now, but I doubt I’ll be the last one we’re waiting on for V2

Hang on, I’ve been busy lately too. Am I missing out on something here? Sorry, just wondering what has been occurring on V2 so far.

The name’s Lawson. Noah Lawson.

Not really. Just meant that I haven’t been able to do much with it the last month or so as I’ve been busy.

Well, atleast it gives time for more ideas and edits.

I shudder at the idea that at least a few dozen people with no prior familiarity will listen to my commentary track for TROS:A. 😬

Man, if people are interested in Ascendant now, just wait until they learn what’s on the docket for V2!

I was thinking, Hal, didn’t you give yourself an editor credit in the Prequels? I’d say Ascendant has changed enough from the theatrical cut that you should get credit for this one too. Any plans on adding your name at the end?

I was thinking about this earlier. Shouldn’t the cloned palpatine faces in the liquid vats shown early in the film be younger versions of him and not disfigured?

Because Rey’s father was a clone of palpatine and was obviously show to be young. Unless I’m not remembering something correctly.

You’re right, but I think it’s a case of the needs of immediate visual storytelling trumping internal Fridge Logic continuity. The audience needs to immediately understand “ah, these are vats of cloned Palpatines,” which wouldn’t be conveyed if it was a bunch of clones of some young bloke we’ve never previously seen.

Also, maybe Rey’s dad was the only viable young clone and the others have been all shrively, emphasizing his need for a living host to transfer his spirit to.

Isn’t Rey’s dad a different type of clone to the body Palpatine is using in TROS? I didn’t actually read the novel, but the impression I’ve gotten is that Rey’s dad was part of some failed attempt to engineer a younger, healthier clone body, whereas the one he’s using in TROS was a more standard thing.
