“workstation situation” is a great album title.

Using the elements provided by LILLIAN, here’s the current shape of the ‘squeaky wheel’ moment. There’s an ugly shot that I hope to improve upon, and which can’t remain as is anyway because the widescreen matte is out of place. The AOTC score fades out over the scene rather than ending at a non-arbitrary point, which may be all right. Rey’s “okay” is culled from TLJ.
It ain’t much, but I was lucky to carve out even 25 minutes this weekend to sit down at my computer at all. (Believe it or not, I kneel at my computer nowadays because the baby wall and chair placement make it difficult to hop up instantly as I almost always need to be ready to do. Fan editing hurts my knees now.)
That’s looking good to me there Hal, despite your work station situation. 😉

Wait I thought the squeaky wheel scene was in the film? Either that or I’ve been Mandela effected like when I was young and thought there was a version of the 2004 ANH DVD dewback scene being shorter (which was masterfully brought to life in Hal’s SE edit).
Maybe you’re remembering Darth Editous’ version?
And the squeaky wheel scene was there, but the supplemental material contained several more shots. The film version goes from Poe and Zorri to the shot where Rey smirks at DO while greasing him up.

Actually I’m pretty sure it was a mix of watching the OOT every once in awhile on VHS and Anatomy of a Dewback on the old StarWars.com that gave me those memories haha. I don’t think I watched any fan edits until ANH:R about 7 years ago.
Ah that makes sense! It’s sad and ironic in a way that they’ve purposely excluded deleted/extended scenes from the package since there were some more than minor changes made before release, and yet bits of material cut out or just left on the cutting room floor find their way onto the set via bonus material anyway. To me DO was the surprise highlight of the film. I really felt for that little droid.
Too bad, in my version his head explodes during the victory celebration.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Alright to be fair I like Otoh Gunga and the Caretakers so I guess I’m a bastion of bad taste. 😉
As an editing suggestion one scene that kind of bothers me is the briefing room scene, specifically when Kylo show stops and asks Hux what he thinks of his mask. Like the shot of Luke throwing the lightsaber away in TLJ it really disrupts the tone of the scene, and the music cutting out in a comedic way doesn’t help. It’s like if someone was having a meeting about world domination and then right in the middle suddenly asked “oh BTW guys, my new perm. Do you like it?”.
It’s also dumb because Kylo specifically asks Hux because he senses that others have “unease” about the mask. Why would he care? The entire point of the mask, beyond beyond hiding behind it to channel Vader, is to intimidate ally and enemy alike. It’s doing its job if people feel unease about it.
Isn’t that the exact reason he asks Hux though? To mock and tease him about his unease in front of the entire board room?
Hux is uneasy because he is the spy, Ren just guesses the wrong reason why.
heil Palpatine!

You’re a poet and you don’t know it. 😉
Ren is insecure about the (reasons for wearing the) masks and calls attention to what is better left alone.
As requested Hal, here is Version 1.0 of the Force ghosts embodying Rey.
I am NOT fully satisfied with this yet so I will likely revise it later on.
There are two versions:
One has both the spirits circling Rey behind and in front of her, before passing through her as she subtlely glows like a force ghost. (She even becomes a little transparent)
The other verison is NO GHOSTS, just the glow effect.

I can hardly tell anything was done, in that it’s very subtle. I’m okay with that, by the way. Whenever you’re happy with it let me know and I’ll include it! (No rush; you’ll end up waiting on me in the end.)
Lol I still can’t see the difference. I must be blind.

I’m honestly on the side of too subtle lol. I can’t really make out the ghosts at all.
Ah, I never really thought of it that way (Kylo misreading Hux’s fear of being found out). That makes a lot more sense, although I still think it could’ve been handled better (but that’s a problem baked into the tonal issues of the Sequel Trilogy in general). What’s done is done though and I rest my case.
I think it is too subtle, as well. I had to slow the video down to notice the Force will-o-wisps, as they appear to me. And we’ve never seen force ghosts depicted that way, so an audience might not even pick up what they’re meant to be, exactly.
I know a subtle approach is preferred, but I think it would look cool to actually see the silhouettes of figures standing behind Rey, maybe only seeing faint glimpses of them for a few frames, whenever the lightning flashes. I mean, we can hear Qui-Gon say “We stand behind you, Rey.” Maybe they literally are.
Plus, when Palpatine stops and looks down at Rey, at first it almost looks like he is looking around Rey.
I think reworking the dialogue between Ren and Palpatine at the start would really improve on the plot, the characters and their motivations. I tried reconstructing the dialogue into its original form in the script and I think its very doable with what we have.
-I have died before, the dark side of the force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural
-What are you?
-More than a clone, less than a man !
-What could you give me ?
-Everything… A new Empire,
The might of the final Order will soon be ready. I’m too weak and soon I will die…the fleet will be yours if you do as I ask…Bring the girl! Take the thrown! and become what your grand father Vader could not. You will rule the galaxy together as Emperor and Empress, A dyad in the force, a dyad of the dark side…
-Who is she?
-Not who you think she is…

So I did a mockup of this, audio ain’t my strong suit so anyone is welcome to have a go at it.

A lot of that sounded seamless to me for the most part. Just a few little hiccups here and there specifically when he says “MAKE” but amazing start! Really weird that they took “more than a clone, less than a man” out of the movie and I’ll never understand it. Could’ve made it as one of the most iconic Palpatine lines.
My boy Palpy becoming Michael Rosen.

Once, a boy called Michael Rosen just fell over and died…
Here is a list of things I’m currently hoping to get from others for this project, to consolidate it all for the moment:
Has anyone considered maybe the possibility of mentioning in the crawl that Kylo Ren is looking for an old forgotten sith Fleet? It would make the whole Fleet idea bit better I think
