I’ve actually been working on a few establishing shots…

Wide shot of 3 tie fighters flying to Mustafar in space
Cut to 21C Peasant Castle clip
Then Poppasketti forest flyover
Remove the star destroyer from Battlefront II footage and adding the castle at the end.
Battlefront II Stormtroopers blaster colour change from blue to yellow
Cut to original Kylo fight
Add Castle in Kylo holding Wayfinder

Great discussion. I think I’d prefer not to reuse stuff from Rogue One. I think having the castle in the distance would be a fun piece of dressing for those who remember what Mustafar means in the crawl, and not distracting for anyone else.
Movies Remastered, that looks perfect as far as I know how to tell.

Well done. I will disengage self-destruct initiative.

We shall look forward in two weeks Jonh. Very exciting and can’t wait for the haircut!

I’m going to disagree. I think having a large building in the background of a forest—without any context as to why it is there—will seem out of place and more of a continuity error.

I would suggest not including it at all if an establishing shot isn’t present.

But it’s not my fanedit.

You could flip it around a bit. Zoom in and crop it, reverse the direction. Plus, the addition of those TIEs also differentiates it from Rogue One. Put an overlay of a forest around it.

I don’t think any one would think, “I’ve seen this before.”

I agree with Ziggy. I was expecting Hal to say that, that’s why I suggest we kinda change the Castle appearance (That could make the shot really different and convince Hal) I really want to see Vader Castle in that edit but without an Stablishing Shot that just don’t work, but I don’t wanna Movies Remastered edit to be left behind because all of his heavy work he puts in that.

Hey, I’m honored that you guys are still talking about my shot with the ties flying by Vaser’s castle!

Just for general info, the shot of the castle is flipped, cropped, color corrected (obviously), and enhanced (because of the cropping). I also added a thin layer of smoke to the foreground so that the ties appear to fly through it.

I’m still toying with adding another shot at the end of the tie sequence with the castle further in the background.

I agree with those who feel that showing Vader’s castle as an establishing shot is vital. When I first saw the film in the theater, I had no idea the planet was supposed to be Mustafar. It looked like it from space, but then the trees threw me completely. Also, it’s important that we know that the wayfinder (I will always call it a holochron) is located on the grounds of the castle.

Anyway, I look forward to maybe seeing the shot in some other edits. It’s already been in my personal edit for quite some time.

I think it is a great idea, Movies. Really excited to see a video in your channel about that work of yours. Unfortunately we won’t see the Castle in it’s full glory at the Ascendant cut, but I really hope you include that in your The Last Hope edit!

Yes, it appears that the shot is already reversed and inverted.
If anybody is still interested, I think a good first step in making the castle appear more abandoned is removing the glowing “windows” of lava on the front of the castle.

I actually tried that at one point, but it made the castle look far less menacing.

Also, to my thinking, the lava would continue to flow regardless of the castle being abandoned. I can’t remember all of the other canon/non-canon stories about the castle, but I like to think of the beings that Kylo is fighting as cult members who likely are still inhabiting the castle as a dark shrine of sorts.

Just my thoughts.

Yes, is like what I said. The castle was left in ruins 30 years before TROS, if there are cultists protecting this place, it’s safe to say they maybe have reconstructed the castle and maybe are living inside it.
I just think you did a stellar job, 21C and don’t think it looks at all like an Rogue One shot, kinda disappoints me that we will not see that in Hal’s cut, but it is his decision, after all. I just glad he is doing an amazing job with this really flawed movie.

This is the last post I’ll make about this I swear haha.
Anyways, I don’t think it’s important that the castle looks menacing. It’s not supposed to be in its prime. Here’s a terrible concept picture I made in 10 seconds on paint:

Wow, really great Jar Jar. Maybe if the castle is presented that way, Hal will consider that shot really different from Rogue One’s original shot and include that in the movie?? Hahah, just hoping. I really wish that in Ascendant. (Also it makes sense we don’t have lava in the Castle anymore because Mustafar is healing and the lava is disappearing)

I’ve been advocating for Vader’s castle to appear in the background on Mustafar and I think this shot is perfect. I’m all for an establishing shot if it can be pulled off convincingly, but if not I think this is a nice Easter Egg as is. I’d definitely be down for this appearing in the final edit regardless if it’s a blink and you miss it shot if the establishing shot of the castle doesn’t come to fruition. Great work, MR!

I agree with Darth. Even if Hal doesn’t want to put the stablishing shot, it stills a cool easter egg and more than what we saw in the original movie. However, I really think if were able to remove the lava from the Castle, it would change the shot a lot from the original in Rogue one (that plus the awesome changes 21c already have did) and also give the aspect of an abandoned castle we discussed so much about. I really hope Hal give us a try with the stablishing shot if we are able to do that.

Is it possible for you to get a 4k version of that scene so the crop doesn’t lose detail?

If Hal isn’t happy with us talking about this here I’ll gladly brainstorm on my Last Hope thread. I don’t know how to link to it.

Hey DigMod, don’t mean to bother you but my Faster, More Intense edit has been pending moderation for quite a while now. Is there any chance someone can take a look at it?

Sorry, I missed this. If you PM TM2YC over at FE they’ll be able to fisx that for you.

I Have said that in the redux thread, but I also find interesting to put that here:

At the final scene, I really liked Rey’s new lightsaber colour, but get frustrated to know it isn’t a double-bladed one. The biggest problem is that the Rey’s saber shot is a closed one, so we can only see one half of the saber, making it impossible to edit the other half to generate a second blade.
Rey could have a double-bladed lightsaber at the end. This is the kind of saber everyone wants to see her using since TFA and is lame that we just see it in a dark vision. If she built one new saber at the end of the movie, what if the new Rey’s saber is a double bladed one and ALSO have the “swiss army” flip function? So in the saber ignition shot, we first see the yellow blade, and after that another blade flips to upside, revealing a double bladed lightsaber that flips and is just like the Dark Rey’s one. The only differences are the colour and the stable blade instead of a crackled one.
What you guys think of the idea? I think it would be really cool, and it would also make everything more tied. Rey see a different kind of saber that fits her more (The double bladed one in the vision) so, when she built a new saber representing her new generation of Jedi will be more different than the others before, that saber will be the most different possible (in colour, in number of blades and in sense of how it works because of the flip function). I will find a time at the next week to work on that, but if you guys have some idea or tip to help I would be really very glad, and if the idea is just lame tell me either, please.

I’m not at all ruling out a shot of Vader‘s castle to open us up on Mustafar. However, I think at worst it would be just fine to have the castle show up in the background. I think that’s a good inclusion even on its own.

For the Rogue One establishing shot, I think it’d almost need to lose the lava flow to fit in with how the location is portrayed as healing or growing trees now. If there can be chinks or pieces crumbled off, even better. Now, I don’t know if that’s even possible to do. But if it is, I think that may it really feel like it belongs in the scene. We’d follow three TIEs from space and through a couple establishing shots and onto Kylo.

The castle doesn’t need to be seen with forest around it, but I’d feel better about it without lava.

EDIT: I just looked into the castle on Wookieepedia, and noticed it’s located on the Gahenn Plains. Made me smile.
Gahenna, of course, being a literary ancestor to HELL as we know it. A vale of burning flesh and refuse.

Well done. I will disengage self-destruct initiative.

I’d say It’d be important to implement trees unless we tried to make it appear the forest is behind Vader’s castle and add fog/mist out towards the distant area where the forest would be, could then have the Ties fly into the mist and then go on to the overview shot we already have.

I agree. That ought to be enough to sell it, even if more elaborate work that probably would be overkill would be better.
